  1. @krstybrght.....Not sure about dental experience counting (?) My suggestion would be put it on there and see if they include it, better to include it that leave it out entirely and miss the opportunity if it does? Experience on company letterhead.....tell your employer/administration staff you need a letter stating work experience on company letterhead, SOMEONE will know exactly what that means, without me going into detail explaining it to you :) In regard to calculating prerequisites, I can't see your calculation sheet so follow the instructions to the letter. Sorry I can't be of much help there I would have to have it in front of me to be able to assist you better. May I suggest taking your issues to the North Campus office in person? They are really nice folks and I'm sure they will be able to assist you better, if it were myself that is what I would do to insure my application is filled out correctly and not passed over or rejected due to error. Worth the trip if this is really what you want to do. Hope that helps, good luck to you!!!!!
  2. That was Doctors express urgent care where I had the $50 EKG
  3. Congratulations Cartce1!!! Looking forward to meeting you! Walgreens has "minute Clinics", they may have reasonable rates, I would call them and some of the private emergency clinics around town they may have good offers going. I went to one on San Pablo and Atlantic Blvd. (can't remember the name but google maps!) late last year for a pre-op EKG they only charged me $50. I have Florida Blue so I will be seeing my primary. Hope you find a reasonable solution, feel free to share with the rest of us. Congrats again!
  4. @Jwaines1....congratulations!!!! See you at orientation in July Feel free to communicate about anything on this thread...I have read through the packet twice and have already started tackling some of the items required. If there is anything I can do to help let me know, I am always willing to share my experience!
  5. @Nan-nan....a GED or high school diploma and you must take the HESI A2 exam at FSCJ. Rank is based on a point system that uses your GED score or college credits and you HESI score for a total. Highest ranking students are accepted. I believe experience gets you points too but don't quote me on that. You'll need CPR once your accepted but not a requirement to apply. The HESI is moderately easy, but I also have all of the RN prerequisites satisfied and a 4.0 GPA so it was easy for me. I've heard others say it was difficult, especially the science part. Hope that helps. Just do it!!!!
  6. Just FYI I received my acceptance letter yesterday after I posted this. It was in the mailbox when I got home. Just wanted to update in case anyone else was looking for answers/info. Good luck to everyone!!
  7. I received my acceptance packet for LPN for fall 2015 yesterday. Just wanted to update in case anyone else is looking for answers. Good luck to everyone!
  8. Thanks @sparkgirl12. On 19G needles over here like the rest of you guys. Trying not to call and bug them so they can do their job.....it will come when it comes whether I call or not!!!
  9. Has anyone received an acceptance packet in the mail? I was out of town last week and it's possible my husband could have dashed it in the bin....Over on the FSCJ fall 2015 RN thread they are getting acceptance packets in the mail. Any LPNers gotten news either way yet? Thanks in advance.
  10. FSCJ LPN fall 2015...I applied still no acceptance letter. Can't find a forum for LPN, has anyone applied and gotten acceptance letters?
  11. Thank you so much to everyone for your insightful responses, everyone had excellent and valuable input, I am very grateful! I think I will look into LTC, I recently learned my orthopedic doc's wife owns a orthopedic home health service, I may apply with her, ortho is something I am interested in. Thank you again everyone!!!!
  12. Thank you midwifery! How long have you been working in LTC? What is the average patient workload in LTC? Or rather, what SHOULD it be?
  13. Congratulations of passing the NCLEX!! What state are you in? Thank you for sharing your experience. I just passed the CNA in Florida, I can tell you the practical portion was NERVE WRACKING!!!! I have a little anxiety as it is, but having two proctors standing inches away while you are performing skills is really intimidating. I had a pulse rate over 100 the entire practical exam. I was the only person that passed that day, despite horrific anxiety. I know the feeling attached to finding out you succeeded, it is amazing. don't underestimate the power of positive thinking, ever. I have a very narcissistic partner who was telling me I was going to fail, I didn't listen to him. Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do it. I wish you luck on your future endeavors. Thank you for sharing your technique, very valuable info!
  14. Hello everyone! I recently passed my CNA exam and was granted licensure by the Florida BON. By the way, I posted previously about my concern regarding background checks. I am a recovering person, sober 9 years, and I had some past troubles. I wanted to share that my offenses fell outside of the guidelines for what the state of Florida will not allow for licensure, or it had been so long it did not matter. I can tell you honestly too, that all of those things were in a past life so far gone I don't even remember the details for most of it. I can say that I do not regret my experiences, I BELIEVE that I will be a better, stronger nurse in many ways as a result. It was all a blessing! And what an incredible day it was for me when my background cleared. I was unable to attend RT school in the past because of my background. 5 years later I am getting another chance. It is an amazing honor and a privilege to be able to have the opportunity to continue pursuing my dreams. So, now that I have been granted the CNA....what are your recommendations for employment? My intention is to climb the ladder (LPN/RN/BSN/ARNP or PA) and I am starting at 42 years old!!! I have applied for the LPN program, acceptance letter will come any minute. I have a few months to go get my feet wet, what would you all recommend? I would prefer a setting that would cater more to the lumbar and cervical stenosis that I am currently living with. I know, I know, I'm asking for it going into nursing with those issues but I DO NOT CARE. This is what I want to do. I will need surgery eventually ANYWAY, I am not going to let that stop me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am thinking home health would be a better choice, but I am a bit uncomfortable doing home health with no experience at all, I don't know if home health hires with no experience or not. I have read other posts about LTC, I am not crazy about changing incontinent garments 8 times in a 12 hour shift on ONE patient, but if that is what is necessary so be it. I am very personable and hospitable, have more empathy than most people I am told, I know I will do well in LTC, just a bit scared of it. I guess I am asking, what would you do? Additionally, has anyone ever heard of someone being granted CNA licensure but not being granted LPN/LVN licensure due to background issues? I am 99% certain the same guidelines apply for all licenses by each states' BON, but anything is possible, too. All you folks that have worked as a CNA, what was your favorite job? And why? Also, are there CE hours required for CNA in FL and where do I find that information? I have the BLS certification I was wondering if there were any maintenance items in regard to my license I need to be immediately concerned with. Thank you in advance, I love this forum/site!!!
