Skilled nursing visits & preemies - how many visits?
Thanks! I have not seen the baby yet, being d/c this weekend. No major issues other than being a preemie so I need to do wt & feeding checks. I figured once a week but I didnt know if nurses used a general rule to start off with. Thanks for your reply!

Skilled nursing visits & preemies - how many visits?
I am new to home health - skilled nursing. I have taken on a preemie assignment for next week and I am unsure how many visits are appropriate. The home health process is a little confusing but in the end, a nursing assessment is a nursing assessment - its the paperwork & visits that get me. I am thinking 1 - 2 visits per week until......when? what would you recommend? do you wait for them to reach a certain weight? A little overwhelmed already!

They are basially leaving it up to me to gather some ideas but Im a little overwhelmed since there are so many different options. Any advice would be welcome!! Thanks a lot!

New specialty for New nurse...looking for advice?
I am a newly graduated RN BSN as of May of this year. I am a single mom and worked hard to get through school. This past summer I lost my little brother in a motorcycle accident and went for my boards in August and passed with 75 questions. So for anyone who ever said, Ill never pass, think again!! Anyway I was hired in a 32 hr overnight position at a local hospital and as much as I knew the experience was invaluable, I could not function. I could not adjust to the schedule at all, especially just after dealing with a major loss in my family. With the economy looking the way it does, I was blessed and lucky enough to find a position allowing me to be home with my son and be able to spend these first holidays without my brother, with my family and not working. I was hired as an Occupational Health nurse, never even thinking about this field while in school but I absolutely love it and the company I work for has a great staff. So this is my question.....what do you do as an Occupational Health Nurse? I am looking forward to working with members in safety and bringing wellness and prevention on board but wanted input from nurses who have been in the field and get their thoughts on how their offices and companies are run. This is all new to me and Im thankful they wanted a new face and someone who has not been in the field for a long time as to bring new ideas to this aspect of the companty. Any advice/tips would be appreciated !!! Thank you and happy holidays ! ~ Jodi

In mourning and trying to study for boards...
One week ago today my little brother was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was 29 and leaves behind a 20 month old baby girl. I was his oldest sister and we were very close. The last time we were all together for a family celebration was my graduation from nursing school this past May and my party in June. I am in absolute shock and disbelief and on the day of his funeral, my NCLEX exam got scheduled. I am going on August 6 and I feel like I will never stop crying and Ill never be able to focus in order to successfully get through this test. Id appreciate any words of advice on this as I feel like Im running in circles. I worked very hard as a single mom to get through nursing school and Id hate to fail. But Im at a loss....please help... Jodi

New Grad...& scared....
Hello all. Im a recent new grad from a BSN program. I must admit Im glad it's over but I am scared of what the future holds. I have not take my boards yet, nor have I even scheduled them. I wanted them out of the way by now but things come up and I got caught up on everything I never had time for while being in school. Anyway...any suggestions on NCLEX? Im sure you guys hear stuff like this all the time but I am freaking out lol. Ive heard the best to the worst stories and everything in between. I dont even know how to study anymore. I have review cd's and Ive been using them but they are getting boring and Im afraid to study any other way than to do these questions (another myth??) Open to all ears and thanks ahead of time! Jodi

SENIOR IN NURSING SCHOOL FACING HUGE PROBLEM...please help
Thank you. There are schools in this area with a passing grade of 70. I respect the decision to change the grade but I think at 40,000 a yr and all the time we have spent in school, the seniors should have been grandfathered in.

SENIOR IN NURSING SCHOOL FACING HUGE PROBLEM...please help
My intention is to review htem. The problem is that both professors wont be on campus until the weeks classes start. Its all about time at this point. It is a private college so I dont know if the politics will help, but it certainly cant hurt....where do they think financial aid comes from??? Thanks for your input. "extremely frutrated"

SENIOR IN NURSING SCHOOL FACING HUGE PROBLEM...please help
Hi folks, Im here for a bit of advice, I hope someone can help. Long story short.... Im a senior nursing student (4 yr program), single mom, working 2 jobs to get through school. The passing grade for as long as Ive been there has been 75 for all nursing courses. Over last summer they changed it to 77 and did not grandfather the senior class in. Unfortunately, I ended up with a final course grade of 75 and they have failed me for the semester. This means no grauation in May, no classes to start in 2 weeks and I would need to retake the entire class all over again in the fall with no financial aid....$6,000.00. If I was 18 still living with my folks to help, it might not be so bad but this isnt the situation. I have a child who depends on me and I need to start working immediately. I met with the chairperson of the nursing dept and got nowhere. I was told they do not grandfather seniors because if they did, they would have to do the jrs and sophmores as well and new policies would never get implemented. I spoke to a student advocate who basically guides me to the next step (Im trying to follow protocol). She works under the Dean. She brought up the problem to him and he directed it back to the chairperson of the nursing dept...in which I got no where the first time. I was also told by another classmate that the Dean will be resigning after this semster to go right to the president of the college (talk about intimidating !!). I am emotionally, physically and financially exhauted at this point and I need some direction. I have 2 state reps offering to help me. Should I have them contact the President or should I do it on my own basically waste my time. Or should I make arrnagements to meet with my 2 professors to go over my exams to look for extea points that could be brought into the mix. Can someone please advise? I know there are very well educated and professional nurses on this site and I would apprecaite any advice you can throw my way. Thanks so much!!!! future RN....soooo confused

Is blood a colloid?
No time to write the fiasco that is going on with school right now, that will come later but for now this is my question. IS BLOOD CONSIDERED A COLLOID COLUTION? AND IF IT IS, I NEED PROOF. I know it sounds crazy lol..but unfortunately graduation in May depends on scrounging up hidden points on quizzes from last semester. I got this wrong on a quiz and so did half the class. The prof said if I could find prof that blood was a colloid Id get an exta 5 points....to her it is not considered a colloid. Thanks folks...

How many don't make it out?
We started with 80 and we are down to 43 I beleive. Starting senior yr this fall. Lot of them dropped after first semester sophmopre yr either by failing or changing majors. From there, we lost a couple here and there due to failing, but they are behind a yr, not out of the program. They give you 2 fails then ur out. (MA)

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
Hello, Im a little new to the site but want to ask for encouragement and pointers as I am in my Jr yr of Nursing school. I had intended on going to college right after high school but I lost my dad to lymphoma jr yr and couldnt deal with it at the time. Got married, had a child, got divorced...now at 34 Im back in school full time and working 2 part time jobs. This is far from easy but I know itll be worth it in the end knowing this is a career I have always wanted. Im off to study for a pharmacology midterm Tuesday and like I said, and pointers would be greatly appreciated. Jodi...future RN
