Moving from Med/Surg to IR
Hello! I have a job offer for an IR RN. I’m currently a med/surg onco nurse with 6 years experience. I’m getting burnt out with bedside and would like to transition to procedural area. However, I am unsure of the schedule. I really like my 3 12s because I can cluster my days and have lots of days off in between. With IR, it won’t be as flexible as that (especially with the on call). anyone who moved to 4 10s from 3 12a and still found a good work/life balance (ex. Vacation days?) thank you!

Administering Vancomycin via venous chamber
Having problems whenever I administer Vancomycin. Whether it's pump (Braun Vista basic pump) or manual, the blood tries to back up the medication line. How to prevent the backing up because of the pressure in the venous chamber? Thanks.

Need letter from Saudi Council for USRN license processing
Hi everyone. My mom is endorsing her California license to Texas and part of the endorsement application to Texas is to include countries where you have previously worked. During the 90s, my mom worked in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. However, during those years, Saudi and Qatar didn't require nurses from other countries to take a nursing licensure exam. They only need their nursing licenses from where they came from. Now, the Texas BON needs a letter from Saudi and Qatar health councils/board of nursing indicating that my mom was allowed to work there using her Philippine license. Please help. We don't know how to contact them. Thank you.

Taking deficient subjects in another state like Texas?
Hi. I am currently an RN in Texas. I read somewhere on Facebook, particularly in a group specific for California RN applicants, that you can take your deficient subjects in another state. Can anyone confirm this? I live in the Houston area and it would be great if I can take my deficiency subjects here instead of going back to CA. thanks!

Working in an outpatient vs in-hospital dialysis
Hi, I'm a dialysis registered nurse working in DaVita and I have been training in one of their facilities in Houston for more than 2 months now. However, I was just wondering if it's better to work in an outpatient setting like in a DaVita facility or in a hemodialysis/renal/urology unit in a hospital? Thank you. I will appreciate your input.

Endorsing to Texas from CA
Hi. My mom is endorsing her CA RN license to Texas. But we just found out California BON takes 6-8 weeks to process a license verification! My mom's temporary permit will expire in November and we're afraid that her verification won't be received before her temporary permit expires. Can anyone share their experience with their endorsement to Texas from CA? How did it go?

Dialysis for new grad - pros and cons
Hi everyone! Might start with DaVita soon and I just want to get insights about working as a dialysis nurse - pros and cons. I'm a graduate nurse with a BSN, got my license in Oct. 2015, no experience. I'm really excited because I've read so many great comments about dialysis and DaVita but honeslty, sometimes I can't help but get discouraged by people who hate dialysis (and DaVita) and say I shouldn't get into it because I'm a new nurse and that DaVita sucks! Hoping to get some meaningful insights. Thank you very much.

Out of nursing school for 3 years. Finding a hard time looking for jobs.
I graduated with a degree of BSN last April 2013 in the Philippines. I permanently moved to California, where my family's living, in June 2013. My diploma wasn't released until like December 2013 so I was only able to start my application for my California license by then. It took me a year to process everything because California BON needed a LOT of documents and since I was living in LA, I couldn't personally take care of the processing of my documents and had to ask friends to help me. Of course, they didn't have all the time to go to the school registrar / college secretary so I faced so many delays. Alas, a letter came and said I needed to fulfill extra units in order for CA BON to let me take the exam. That means looking for a school that will accommodate you. That also means being on the waiting list for more than a year! I was devastated. It was a year of processing and it all came to nothing. I almost gave up until my mom said to apply to another state. I started my application for Texas in October 2014. I got cleared by August 2015 and sat down for the exam on October 2015, which I passed after one take. I didn't immediately apply to jobs after I passed because I wanted to save more money before relocating (I don't have family in Texas). March 2016, my grandmother died and I had to go home to the Philippines to help in the funeral. When I came back, I immediately started applying to hospitals. My main worry is, it's been 3 years since I graduated. I feel like no hospital is gonna accept me. From all of the applications I submitted, only two so far replied. The other one I had a phone screening interview two weeks ago and I haven't heard from him since. Another one emailed me about the internship I applied to and will call in the next few weeks for a phone interview. I'm afraid I won't get into jobs or will be rejected because there are so many new grads there whose memories and skills are still fresh. Help

Endorsement from Texas to CA
Hello. Anyone here who has successfully endorsed from Texas to CA? What schools do you come from? I want to take an ADN here in Texas. Thank you!

Will a foreign BSN graduate still be a BSN degree holder if he/she will take ADN?
I've been looking for a similar topic like this!!!!!! I got rejected by CA Board of Nursing so I'm planning to just take the ADN program even if I already have BSN in the Philippines. I think it's harder to find a school which will accommodate me if I'm only after completing units. I just got recently licensed in Texas as an RN but I really want to work in CA as an RN. Can you update me if you actually got into an ADN program? Thanks so much!!! You can also email me at: [email protected]. I really want to know Thank you!!

Passed my NCLEX-RN with 75 questions
Hi @jenn028. Nope. Texas does not require IELTS or TOEFL. You only need a refresher course if 4 years has passed since your graduation when you applied for NCLEX. As for me, I graduated in 2013 and applied in 2014 so I'm still within the time frame.

Passed my NCLEX-RN with 75 questions
Hi! I have a batchmate who luckily was able to take an exam here in California. I think it does not matter when you graudated AS LONG AS you meet the concurrency requirements. Have you taken the NCLEX again? I hope you pass! :)

Passed my NCLEX-RN with 75 questions
Hi everyone! I passed my NCLEX exactly 2 weeks ago, Oct. 13, 2015. A little background about me: I graduated from a school in Manila, Philippines last April 2013. I tried applying to the California BON, but unfortunately, like many foreign grads, I was rejected. It was one whole year of processing and waiting only to be denied. I was depressed for a while but my mom encouraged me to try other states. She had relatives in Texas so I applied there. Fortunately, within 4 months, my application went through and I was able to take my NCLEX. When I got my ATT, I did not know how to start reviewing. I often visited this website for tips on how to study and what materials to study. People had various suggestions and I know that we all have different study methods that work for us. Here's mine: 1. QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS. Assess yourself: are you already good with content or do you need to have a comprehensive review? I did some pre-tests and I thought that I'm still pretty good with my nursing knowledge even though I have already been out of school for 2 years, so I set a goal of answering a specific number of questions every day. I reviewed for two months. For the first week, I tried 50 questions a day, then progressed to 75, to 100 to 150. I used the following for my questions: NCLEX 4000 - Found the free software online. I practiced my SATAs with this! Lippincott Q&A Review for NCLEX-RN (11th Edition) - I used the CD ExamCram 3rd Edition NCLEX Mastery App - buy the whole app ($30.00)! It's worth it. Kaplan NCLEX-RN Premier 2015-2016 Kaplan Q-bank (good for one month) - The questions were difficult and my scores ranged from low 50s to high 70s. I was disheartened at first because of my low scores but the questions helped me in becoming better in answering questions. Whenever I don't know the disease or the procedure, I refer to Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination (the yellow book, 5th edition). You don't need to read the whole back cover-to-cover (unless you're really bad with content). You only need to refer to this book whenever you don't recall or understand something. 2. WRITE THE RATIONALES. This has been A LOT OF HELP to me. This will help you retain information and analyze questions better because it helps you understand why your answer is right and the other choices are wrong and vice versa. Do not get worried if there are times that you keep getting the wrong answers. Just practice answering questions and writing down the rationales. Get a notebook where you can write your rationales. Make it your treasure! 3. BE RESOURCEFUL. The internet is a big place! Just browsing here in allnurses.com helped me in getting helpful resources such as notes, mnemonics, sample exams, etc. I was able to find audio lectures that I listen to whenever I drive. It was really helpful! I was also able to find the Kaplan Q-trainers online, which were very helpful in preparing me for my NCLEX. Here are my score: QT1: 63% QT2: 65% QT3: 54% QT4: 68% QT5: 70% QT6: 72% QT7: 68% Do not worry if your scores are below mine. There were people who got scores between 40 to 60% but were able to pass. But of course, don't settle with 40%. Try scoring between high 50s and above :) Also, you don't have to buy new books! I borrowed some books from the local public library and I was able to renew extension for each of the books 3 times (I borrowed Kaplan NCLEX-RN Premier and ExamCram). I wish I had known about using the local public library before buying the Lippincott Q&A book which was very expensive (but at least I was able to use the CD). 4. PRACTICE GOOD STUDY HABITS. Find a study buddy. Exchange questions and discuss the rationales with each other. Find a good place to study. Maximize your time in studying but DO NOT OVERSTUDY. Rest your brain and give yourself time to relax and recharge. Eat well and find time to exercise. 5. THE WEEK BEFORE NCLEX. Just do comprehensive exams. I answered the question trainers and the practice test of the Kaplan NCLEX-RN Premier, which was 265 questions (I got 83%). 5. THE DAY BEFORE NCLEX. Don't study the night before NCLEX! Just relax and pamper yourself. Go to church, go the salon, watch a movie, etc. Sleep early and do not attempt to open anything! 6. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY. Prayer is powerful! Ask for peace and wisdom every day! If you need some resources, please feel free to leave your emails in the comment section. :) I will also try my best to answer some of your questions. A BIT OF ENCOURAGEMENT. Do not be discouraged if initally your scores are low or if you are scoring lower than others. Just keep practicing. Also, it does not matter if you have just recently graduated or been out of school for a long time. Just do your best to review and ask help if you need it. You are not alone :) Good luck, future RN!

Problem in Verification of License from CGFNS for TEXAS BoN
Hi. I need help. I received this from CGFNS today via email. "Thank you for selecting CGFNS International, your trusted choice for all of your credentials evaluation and verification needs. We received your application for the Credentials Evaluation Service. However, the following application material is needed to make your file complete: Validation of your license/registration from Philippines. If you have not already done so, please request the appropriate agency to mail the validation DIRECTLY to CGFNS. Please note that CGFNS International can not use the validation of your license that we received in 2014, as your recipient, the TX Board of Nursing, requires that CGFNS International only evaluate license validations that are less than 1 year old." The VOL form that I downloaded from CGFNS was actually submitted from PRC and received by CGFNS in January 2015. I got my Philippine license last September 2014. Right now, I'm clueless of what to do. Please help.
