@eupak Were you able to get in touch with someone from the department. If not I suggest making an appointment or just going in to see the status to get a clearer idea on whats going on with it.

Saint Joseph College Brooklyn Spring 2018
Hi @louismimi, there are multiple sites that are used. I can't remember all at the top of my head. I know some are Flushing and LIJ. There's one in Manhattan and more in Brooklyn. I'm not sure about changing clinical site depending on location. I never really thought about it. Maybe you can speak to the coordinator about change of locations.

@louismimi Hi, nursing labs and clinical are awesome as usual. Sometimes the lab can get crowded but you can sign up as one on one or 2-3 per group. How are classes going?

@sgel It definitely wasn't a lot. It was either 15 or 20 questions. Most students finish within 10-20 mins but I took the full hour lol. At the time math was not my forte, but after doing peds, it comes with ease. Don't rush and always double/triple check your answers. I believe you need 80 and above. Practice, practice, practice and you will do great.

@sgel The math is really basic and compose of only conversions such as teaspoon to ml or lbs to kilograms ect. However, this was a year ago when I took it, so I'm hoping it has not changed. As for an essay, I didn't write one but you could choose a topic on why nursing as a career and incorporate why SJC is your choice of college. Keep it short, sweet and make sure it reflects who you are as an individual. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. I wish you good luck and positivity.

@Scoobyfn8 I really love the school. The faculty is awesome and they do pay attention to your concerns. It's not a big school like Cuny and this is why love the atmosphere. You're not just another face and you don't get lost in a crowd of students. You are seen as an individual. All the teachers and students know you because you will be seeing the same face everyday. Everyone is polite and you do meet great people. The program is intense but really great. Once you focus, prioritize and stay positive you'll be alright. You mentioned you live Long Island. Do you plan on going to that campus or to Brooklyn?

@louismimi thank you for asking, clinically are going great. I have Peds and Med/surg clinical this semester. it's a little challenging but in a good way. I'm learning a great deal. The time flew by so quickly it's amazing. You will enjoy your journey and when looking back realize how much you have grown. Not every moment will be a ray of sunshine. Somedays you may feel drained or question your sanity but always remember the end is worth every bit of sleepless nights and anxiety. Once you prioritize, stay focus and stick to your schedule you'll be great. Good luck, you got this!!!

@Wilson Dong Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, seats do fill quickly, however it does not mean that you may not get a seat. If time passes and you haven't gotten a response either send a follow up email or call. In terms of prerequisites, registrar will go over all the classes you need, if it's not a lot of classes you can do it over the summer if offered. The program itself starts in the Fall and certain classes are offered only Fall or Spring. The good thing is once you're accepted you'll be able to see where you stand in terms of classes and be able to plan and move forward.

@Nsadia congratulations on taking the steps to the beginning of a beautiful career. The program and the clinical are really good. I go to school twice per week and clinics twice per week. My advise to you is to apply no matter your grades or gpa. Your grades are pretty great btw. As far as needing more classes, registrar will be able to tell you exactly what you may need to take. No, there are no admission exam like teas/pax. In terms of tuition, it is a private school so it's a little expensive (around $14,000) but not as expensive compared to LIU, NYU or even Molloy. At the end, it would be worth it. Hope this helps. Sorry for the late reply, as I mentioned to other members I don't receive notifications to my email anymore. hope they fix this soon.

@louismimi congratulations on being accepted and starting this wonderful journey. Although it's been a long journey I know its been worth every stressful moments that led you to this path. @onesio Hi onesio, my advise I always give is don't think about applying and apply. Always stay true and positive to your goals. This is a wonderful field and a great career choice. When applying make sure and follow up with any questions that you are unsure of. If there is still an essay portion, write it. Although I didn't, I believe that this can help set you apart. Let them get to know you beyond your transcripts. Good luck, you can do this.

PEDS/OB- not passing
HI amynursing, I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with peds/ob. I am taking OB right now so I know there is always information overload going on in your brain. First of all, you have to find you learning style and if one thing does not work try another. Writing the information 5 times is only memorizing, this technique will not work. You have to fully understand the material in order to critically think and apply the knowledge to the questions, so please read the book (not the whole chapter, just pick out the essential information and pay attention to the boxes). Also after each test, make an appointment with the teacher to go through ALL the questions and rationales to the answers. Do not wait to study the week of the test. As soon as class is over, find a quiet place and go over the material again as it is fresh in your head. if you are a visual and auditory learner, someone mentioned registerednursern, she is a life saver and will simplify the materials for you to understand. Also KhanAcademy is a great resource. Practice NCLEX style questions everyday (at least 20 after each chapter you've learnt). And lastly, take breaks in between study. Do not study for 4 hours straight and no breaks, this is very crucial. Utilize your school's tutoring center. Good luck with your next exam. You got this!!!

Hey Louismimi, I had the same dilemma. I thought the curriculum was so much, but what you see online are for incoming freshman. If you have most of the required sciences and general classes you're already half way there. Don't let those class loads online deter you. they will evaluate your transfer classes and let you know what classes you need. I believe clinical sites may not the same each semester. this semester its Queens and BK.

Saint Joseph College Brooklyn Spring 2018
Hi Louismimi, the classes are wonderful. The work load is a lot but as I mentioned doable once prioritized. The clinical sites I believe may not the same every semester however this semester the sites are in Brooklyn and Queens.
-
Saint Joseph College Brooklyn Spring 2018
Thank you so much. Yes it's difficult, but with some prioritizing it's doable. I'm getting a little better with prioritizing such heavy loads.

Hi Miniethepooh, Sorry for the late reply. For some reason I didn't get any notification on this thread. I decided to attend St Joseph's College in Brooklyn since its easier to access. So far I love it. Did you end up choosing Dominican college or another one?

Saint Joseph College Brooklyn Spring 2018
Hi Foodprincess1, congratulations!!!!! I am so happy for you. Yes, I am in the Brooklyn campus. This semester I took 8 classes 1. Genetics - Mondays, both lecture and lab(there is only one professor I believe for this class who is also the head of biology. She's pretty nice).... Grade A 2. Nutrition- Tuesdays & Thursdays..... Grade A 3. Sociology- Tuesdays & Thursdays... Grade B- (This class is pretty easy but I am not strong in writing papers which is a good bulk of the class. There is a tutoring center but between my classes and working full-time I couldn't lol) 4. Nursing 201- Tuesdays (this is taken right before Nursing fundamentals and it is also math calculation for nursing class).....Grade A 5. Transfer seminar- Mondays.... Grade P (passed) 6. Ethics- Wednesday.... Grade A 7. Computer- Saturdays..... Grade A 8. Religious study- online......Grade A- Genetics class was a lot of info but not bad at all because a lot of stuff is from Anatomy and Physiology 1. The professor is fair and lab is fun. I'm not sure if they will allow me to put my email here but if you can PM me I will give you my study notes and guide so you can get started early. My advice for this class is to read the book and go through the powerpoint lectures that is posted online and sit infant the class and you'll do good. I start my nursing classes and clinicals in September, so if you have any questions or need advice or books let me know and I will definitely help where I can. Congrats again.
