  1. What is wrong with giving advise to "strangers"? People asked, I answered the best way I could. And I don't post the name of my school because, as they teach us from the beginning, internet is not private, you never know who will read you posts and that might bite you in the *ss someday. And I spent 3 years in that school, not just a few week. Anyway, what difference does it make?
  2. We ask questions, she doesn't respond. That's the problem. Teacher's lectures are 80% based on EXTRA material SHE gives in class, not the textbook. TA doesn't provide these extras. But I will figure something out, I like your comparison to us being nursing students, that does make sense. Thanks.
  3. I admire your determination, I really do. But listen. Nursing programs are competitive, yes. It is hard to get in, yes. But, the main struggle starts when you DO GET IN. The classes are harder (multiply Chem by 10 and you'll get Patho or Pharm). There is no slowing down, questions are harder, on exams every answer seems like the right one. I know people with 4.0 pre-nursing who are failing exams in their first semester. My point is: either completely reevaluate your learning/studying strategies or seriously think about switching to another specialty. If you want to stick to nursing, here is a tip. Get book like Chemistry made incredibly easy or Chemistry for Dummies. They explain difficult concepts in easy way. They can be great as a supplement for the course. In addition, if you're taking Chem in the University with 100+ people in the classroom, try take it in the community college and transfer. They have fewer people (maybe 12-20 students in the class), so it's easier to understand the material and ask questions.
  4. So you'll find "better" answers? The girls are right, GPA is the most important. Perhaps you can find a private, non-competitive school that accepts almost everyone. It also depends on which state you live in. But, for the most part, your chances of getting accepted into good public or even private school are slim to nothing. It's all about competition. So many people are applying and the majority has high competitive GPA's. That is why they also want you to have extra activities, job experience and volunteering listed on your application, so if they have two people with 3.6 they know which one to choose. We are really not trying to be mean, it's just the reality. I am in nursing school now and out of all the students in my class I don't know any that got accepted with less than 3.5 and my school is not even that competitive, around 5/1.
  5. Hi there, I am a first semester BSN student and so far it goes well. As you all know, it's a big adjustment, NCLEX type questions and everything. I really appreciate our professors trying to help and don't miss lectures (lots of info, VERY helpful when it comes to exams). However, in one of my classes, over the past few weeks, a TA, not the teacher, has been given lectures. And let me tell you, she is not good. The teacher is there all class long, the the TA basically reads all the information from teacher's power points and doesn't elaborate, doesn't discuss anything. Her lectures are super dry and I am starting to wonder what's the point of showing up for class if I don't learn anything new, I can read from PP by myself. So my question is, is it even legal for TA to give lectures instead of the teacher? I mean they are helpful when it comes to grading exams and stuff, but it doesn't feel like it's their job. And frankly, I don't feel like the money I pay for class even worth it anymore when I can get the same info sitting at home and reading my textbook. The teacher herself is wonderful, I enjoyed the class a lot. But now I don't even feel like going. The exam is coming up and it looks like the TA will "lecture" the whole time. Any suggestions?
