Want out of nursing
Don't go out of Nursing, you stay! If you feel overwhelmed, you can take time off either a semester or a year off and think about the reasons that you wanted to do nursing before all the crap you have experienced! Forget all the reasons you are giving right now for not liking nursing and believe in one reason why you can still do it. I felt like that about a month ago, I wanted to let go nursing said bye bye to all my teachers, but after two months away from the crazy chemistry I still felt no other profession can give me joy but becoming a nurse. This is what I am curved for. I determined to go back and finish my prerequisites and hopefully apply to university in September 2017. I know it is hard, but I am not focusing on the reasons why I can't do it, but sticking on that one reason why it can still be done. So don't loose heart. Keep focused. Life in general is like that no matter which profession you go into. There is no straight road from beginning to the end. Working short, being on call, getting called in to work 16-18 hours shift, crappy managers all other crap will get better as you climb the ladder of seniority or try another employer. Roads are full of bends, but will reach you to your destination. So is nursing, so hard right from the start up to the end, but a very rewarding career of serving people and I can't trade it for anything else. I am so happy that I made the decision to back. Good luck to you!

Going Back at 40 years old...
moretonel, your post is amazing. I was wondering if I made the right choose to go back to school after 15 years in my present career. I was almost quitting my dream career to be a nurse because of the hardship of chemistry, but you have empowered me to keep trying although you were not answering to my post. I am still doing my Chemistry prerequisites, then math, then I can apply to university. I am taking one course at a time online due to family and a full time job. If I keep tagging along, in 2017 I should be ready to apply. Thanks again.

Out of the Race for RN
I am going out of the race for RN. Chemistry has made me feel so bad about myself. I was doing my prerequisites online here in Ottawa. I did grade 11 University preparation midterm exam okay, but I struggled a lot to reach there. I feel bad about everything. I have put in one and half years to be here. I finished Biology to grade 12 well. I was remaining with Chemistry grade 11 final exam which I am going to do and close up the books. After this I would remain with math then would be ready to apply in University. I have three children and a full time job so there is no other way I can do it except through online learning until university then I would take time off work and go to school full time. I do not think I will manage chemistry grade 12 which is what I would have done if I was to continue. This makes me feel I cannot do Nursing at University. I guess I was meant for something else. I wish all the RN pursuers all the best. Thank you so much for those that have offered help and encouragement whenever I needed it. In two weeks I will be doing chemistry 11 final exam and will finalize everything. I got to find another path. Chemistry has caused me headaches and loss of confidence in myself. It is hurting me but that is life I guess and the reality right now. Sorry for this negative energy but this blog has been such an encouragement that has guided me to where I had reached so I felt obligated to say a final good bye. Thanks, Byeeeee........

On my way to my Nursing dream career but chemistry has overwhelmed me! am I alone?
windsurfer8, Thanks for your response. I am well aware that nursing is difficult and it has always been difficult. I wanted to hear from others like you on how they were able to over come this hard course and maybe share their experience and success secrets to help people like me, and sometimes that is all someone needs to gain the momentum to carry on. Thanks for your suggestion of tripling my time of study. I hope this will take it away though.

Thanks awsumsaus I will keep pushing through. I will google Khan Academy. I am determined to be a nurse. Thanks for the encouraging words. Sometimes you just want to hear from someone who has traveled or traveling the journey to give you some tips of how they are managing and this makes a world of a difference.

On my way to my Nursing dream career but chemistry has overwhelmed me! am I alone?
After searching myself really well, I came to one conclusion, I can not settle for anything else in terms of a career other than becoming a Nurse! So I decided to go back to Adult High School and get my prerequisites. I need Bio 4U, Chemistry 4U, and Math. When I was tested I was told to begin from grade 10 biology and chemistry. I had not been in school for over 10 years!! so I was not very surprised, but just ready to do anything in my power to become a nurse. I am happy to report that I did biology 4U very well. I am now taking 3U Chemistry, then 4U but it is so hard. I feel very overwhelmed!! I am doing my studies online. I have three children and a full time job so there is no way I can do my studies in class. Chemistry is making me to start daunting myself whether I will be able to do my nursing degree! For the first time I feel like giving up, but that will make me sad for the rest of my life! I am in my early 40's so time is not on my side. I want to become an RN so that is 4 years in University here in Ontario Canada yet still taking prerequisites. I can only take one course at a time at my current school which is okay for me My questions are: Am I alone? How did you guys do it? Is there anything I can do to get the chemistry concepts? Please help me I will appreciate all the tips that will make me successful. Thanks.

Ontarians please help me
Thank you. I guess I will do Chemistry which I know for sure I do not have, and apply to Ottawa U and see what comes out. If I get admitted that will be great, if I don't it will give me confidence that I am doing the right thing and continue with collecting all my prerequisites from Adult High School.

Ontarians please help me
I want to do my BSN at Ottawa University. I called the school plus reading on their website and both indicated that I need Math, Biology, Chemistry, and English all 4U for my prerequisites. So I decided to go to Adult High School which is free and they have online courses. I have a 2 years diploma in Developmental Service Work (DSW) and a second Diploma in Social Work (SW) both from Algonquin College. I did quite a number of science courses especially in DSW including Health Science and Pharmacology. I asked Ottawa University on phone if they could do a pre-assessment of Transcripts and see if I qualify to apply, but they said they do not do that. I have to officially apply. So I decided to go to Adult High School since I know I need chemistry because it is not any where on my transcripts from High school through college. I did my High School through International Career School by correspondence which Ottawa University said they are fine with it. Math, Biology, and English are all indicated on my transcript with a good mark. However, I don't know if it is 4U or not. The person spoke to on the phone at Ottawa University said it would not say. So I don't Know! I guess I have to call ICS. My questions are: 1- Does anyone out there know if my college sciences and English can be used in replacement of 4U Biology and English? 2- Can I apply to the university for the sake of telling me what exactly I need according the transcripts I have? Or 3- Can I only take Chemistry 4U and give it a try? Or it doesn't matter I just have to go back to high school and take all the four Prerequisites? Please help me.

Need help
Thank you so much for your help. I started already on the Adult High School journey since March 2015 online. It is free and it is credited for sure. I did a CAT test and the results pushed me to start Biology from grade 10 which I did very well. I had been out of school for more than 10 years! Now I am at grade 11. I am always anxious if I will have the high score in grade 12 to be accepted in Ottawa University. I am always like that any new thing is such a big stress for me until I get used to it. I guess all I have to do now is to hope for the best.

Need help
This is my first time using this forum. I found this on google while looking for nursing information , and it was really helpful. My dream has always been to be a nurse. Over the years I went into other professionals which were much easier to reach. I'm grateful for the experience I have got, but I still want to pursue my nursing career. I called Ottawa university and I was told I need Biology, chemistry, Math, and English all 4U. I have registered in an adult high school and they are going to start me off with chemistry. I'm excited and anxious at the same time. Ottawa university wants 84 score in these 4 difficult courses. Sciences, and Mathematics were never my greatest strength but seem to be the pathway if I'm going to achieve my dream. Has anybody gone through this process before? How are these four courses 4U at high school? I want some information please that will help me realize my dream of being a Nurse.
