Crazy clinicals instructor doesn't like us using the restroom?
Report her as a group (that way there is no odd man out for her to take things out on). This is wrong on so many levels. What if someone is diabetic and they are starting to get hypoglycemic? Does she expect them to just crump on the floor? I get it, sometimes some nurses are so busy that they rarely go to the bathroom or take a break to eat, but I also see those same nurses munching away as they write up their notes. Denying students of food and water as well as trying to control their bathroom use for 12 hours is just cruel and abusive. There is no way your school actually allows this. She must be on some sort of power trip!

Final exam miracle stories!!!
Okay so I'm in a rough situation at the moment... final semester.. failing one of my casses! The professor told me I basically need to get a 94 on the final to pass. At first I was a weepy little puddle, all upset with myself and doing the whole "shoulda woulda coulda" thing you do when your in those situations. I pretty much was just like WELLP! guess I failed. The next morning, however, I woke up in a totally different mind set. I was like NO! there IS a chance!! I CAN STILL PASS!! Slim the chances may be... there is still a chance there. I am going to live, breathe, and consume this course content until I'm reciting it in my sleep if I have to. It's not over yet and I'm not about to roll over and die! I even called my friend who's a well renowned psychic in my area and ask if I had a chance of passing this course and he said yes, as long as you don't hyperfocus on the grade you have to get and just focus on knowing/being able to apply all of the material, I will pass. I was shocked! And by the way, just because we are friends does not mean he sugar coats things. If he felt like I didn't have a chance, he would tell me that. Anyway, I know a lot of you are into that hocus pocus so let me get on to the main point. I'd like to hear some personal miracle stories.. like someone that needed a 95 on their final in order to pass a difficult class and somehow they did. Or if you have any suggestions, those are welcome as well. I am seeing multiple tutors and I have the saunders 6th edition nclex review book I use for practice questions. Blessed Be!

Family member hurt my somewhat fragile new grad confidence
Someone replied on here saying the wife was a "nutter" and that OP should be happy she was not reassigned this patient. I personally don't think the wife is a "nutter" and most likely just stressed and upset?

I'm so sorry about this whole situation! I kind of feel like people who are or who want to be nurses tend to be "people pleasers". The sad truth is, is that sometimes, no matter how wonderful you may be, there's always going to be a person you don't "vibe" with. That's totally not your fault.. just kind of the way it is. It sounds like to me you did an excellent job and were very thorough, so please don't be so hard on yourself; you did the best you could! If I had to guess, maybe she just wanted someone to talk to as in just shoot the breeze with to take her mind off of the current situation? It sounds like you were discussing a lot of the medical aspects with her and maybe although you thought she seemed intelligent and wanted to hear about this stuff, perhaps she'd rather discuss something else? Just a thought. In no way did you do anything wrong, though!

Am I out of line?
You make a great point about emails being strictly business and advising against making any assumptions about the professor by the way they respond in an email. Yesterday was just one of those extra sensitive days and I think I may have been reading into things that weren't really there. Onward and upward from here on out...

Am I out of line?
Well, I never thought I'd thank my crippling anxiety but because of all the stress I ended up getting very nauseous and vomiting a few times in the class I have prior to the exam. My professor noticed something was up and talked to me in the hall where I told her everything. She told me I'm in no shape to take an exam and to go home and that she would email my professor and tell her that she was a witness to me being sick. So just remember for every cold, non compassionate professor there is an awesome, understanding one!

I can't even remember the last time I felt this miserable... I don't know how I'm going to survive this semester.

Am I out of line?
Thank you all for your replies. The last two replies were compassionate and I appreciate that! I got a reply and she basically said that "per policy" the only way to get out of an exam is acute illness or a death in the family. I guess near death just doesn't make the cut. I'm sure I will be crying through this exam. I get it, it's the policy. I guess I'm just a bit surprised... not that she said no, but in the reply she didn't say anything like "I hope you feel better" or "I'm sorry to hear about your father". I just found that a little cold. Maybe I'm just extra sensitive right now, but my feelings are kind of hurt.

Am I out of line?
I'm not sure how I'm going to come off asking my professor this.... I had an awful weekend, my father has an on going health problem that took another turn for the worse and he was in the hospital all weekend. I haven't been able to sleep or eat much I've been so worried about him. So I asked her if there was any chance I could extend my exam that I'm supposed to take today to tomorrow morning... I feel like any little bit would help at this point. I explained to her in the email what's going on and I also added in that I completely understand if she can't do that and said thank you either way... I just,, ugh! I feel so guilty! I've NEVER asked for an extension in nursing school and this is my final semester! I just feel like such a bum. Do you think this makes me look bad? Do you think she will think less of me for asking such a thing considering my circumstances?? I already sent the email and now I'm here second guessing myself. Crap. Was I out of line asking for an extension?
