Yes, there are quite a few OR RN residency programs in Atlanta, I also live there. I was just accepted into a program! I did one year of med-surg first, just for the experience. Check out Grady, Northside, Gwinnett, Piedmont, WellStar and Emory, they all have an OR Residency program just gotta do some research.

First off I wanna say CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Now to the good stuff: 1. The first two semesters, clinical is 8 hrs. The third semester clinical is 10 hrs for OB, 4 hrs for Psych and 12 hrs for PEDS. However, this may change due to you guys having a smaller class size 2. We have class once a week from 9-3, but in the beginning they like to front load information so you're likely to go on two consecutive days the first week. 3. Background checks are $80 I believe, they send out detailed information about that and everything else 4. Someone asked about having class in the summer. They used to offer summer classes if you completed all your prerequisites and made a B in all your classes so far, but since our class was so big they didn't offer that to us. They may offer it to you guys, but I'm not sure.

You will start clinical during the first semester. I believe the students who started in August just started having clinical this week. Definitely buy an NCLEX-RN review book! I recommend the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination. I heard that a new edition is coming out around October 10th. It basically gives you the important info that you need to know and also has practice questions...DO A LOT OF PRACTICE QUESTIONS! I've been reading the chapters they assign, but that can get really time consuming. There are a lot of YouTube videos out there that explain things pretty well, definitely a good source for med-surg info. Expect the unexpected....seriously lol you know how you guys are waiting for your acceptance letters and it's taking forever and you're nervous and anxious and about to go crazy? Prepare to feel like that throughout the program. My tip to you guys is to figure out how to study your first semester! The first semester is like a walk in the park compared to what comes next. Time management is key. Also, get to know your classmates. You're all going to be going through this together and no one else in your life is going to understand this madness besides them. Once you all get accepted, be sure to ask us second year students for more tips! We have a HUGE class (there's about 140 of us) and we're all willing to help you guys out! Good luck!
