I'm considering moving to the Austin area from Las Vegas and would really appreciate any info on good places to work there for a new grad RN. I've heard about the magnet hospitals, but I was hoping to hear from people who actually know based on first-hand experience what it's all about. Is the pay better? What pay range might I expect? How are benefits? What hospitals are recommended? What area of town has easiest access to hospitals? How is the work environment, and what about nurse/patient ratio? Any help is so much appreciated!

Thanks for all the good info! Can I ask where you're going to school because I thought Cal Poly didn't have a Nursing program? I'm just curious because I will graduate with an Associate's Degree, but I'd like to get my Bachelors and I wasn't sure if that was an option there. If I stay here in Vegas, I will start somewhere between 22.50 and 24.75 and our houses haven't reached CA prices yet even though they're going up fast! But, still, how much is the chance to live in that beautiful area worth? I guess that's what it comes down to. That's why I was curious to see if the pay more or less matched the cost of living, but it doesn't sound like it. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Everyone, I'm hoping there are nurses out there who can help me. I am a nursing student right now in Las Vegas, NV and I will graduate in December. I would love to move to the San Luis Obispo area (SLO, Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, etc.) and I'm wondering what to expect as far as getting a job? How difficult is it for a new grad? What is the starting pay range? Are there any hospitals that anyone can reccommend? I've worked for CHW here for the past 3 years and I've heard they have at least one hosptial in the area, but haven't really looked into it that deeply yet. I'd love to hear from anyone with experience in the central coast area! Thank you so much.
