  1. To my knowledge there is not a Facebook page yet. I've seen talk about it but I don't think that anyone has taken the initiative to create it. I'm pretty sure there will be others who will be in your same situation though. I wonder if the school would have any insight on that?
  2. I'm really not sure what that means, this is what my letter said once they received my information: "Thank you for your application to the George Washington University School of Nursing. NursingCAS has verified your application and has released it to GW for review. We will begin the preliminary review shortly and send you an update when your application is sent to the Admission Committee for final review." I wonder if they have already admitted the max number of students and are waiting for responses or for people to forfeit their seats? I really don't know, I am merely just guessing. Perhaps you should call to get an idea of what exactly that means. I have had really good experiences with everyone there each time I have called. Best of luck to you!
  3. I read on an older forum that the best thing to do is to live as close to campus as possible. I live in Maryland and am very familiar with how much of a nightmare DC/MD/VA traffic can be. Since the nursing program is in Ashburn, I will be relocating to that area if I attend GW. Of course I will have to commute to my clinicals but I would prefer to be close to the classroom and the lab. Anyone who is not familiar with the area, you may want to search older posts from previous cohorts so that you can see what they have said about where you should live.
  4. I can't remember the exact day that I submitted my application but on Feb 5 I received notification from NursingCAS that I had missing coursework because I did not realize that I actually had to input every class that I attended. I thought that I only had to put the prerequisites in. Anyway, I corrected it right away and received an email later that day that they verified all of my coursework and were going to calculate my GPA. On Feb 24, I received an email from GW that NursingCAS released my application for review and later that day I received another email stating that my application was being referred to the admissions committee. On March 13, I received the acceptance email. I hope this helps you!
  5. Hi talfan...I will be attending the the admitted student day...will you? Good luck to the rest of you and I hope that you hear some good news soon! I'm sure you are all dying to hear something!!!
  6. Congratulations dvth15! I can't believe people are still waiting for a decision, it seems to be taking forever! I wonder how many others are still waiting?
  7. Yes, I did get that and I figured it out after I sent that message :-) Thanks and congratulations to you and all who have been accepted!!!
  8. Hello everyone, I have also been accepted for the fall 2015 ABSN program. Where did y'all find the information regarding the $250 enrollment fee? Is that the fee that is due by June 15 to the University not the actual nursing program?
  9. You should contact Frostburg since that's the school that roxiroxmysox mentioned that she's attending.
  10. Thanks! I received my first communication from GW on 2/6/15 which thanked me for applying and reminded me about the W2 program. The next communucation that I received was on 2/24/15 which stated that NursingCAS released my application to GWU and later that same day my application was sent to the review committee. I don't recall the exact date that I submitted all of my information but it was not long before their initial deadline.
  11. Hi roxiroxmysox, can you PM Gainz&Brains?
  12. Hi All, I received an email today that I have been accepted into GW's ABSN fall 2015 cohort. Such a tough decision because of the campus location, clinical locations, and the price! I only have until April 3 to decide, definitely one of the biggest decisions of my life!
  13. Hi Everyone, I have been accepted for the Fall 2015 ABSN cohort but I am unsure if I will accept. The cost is just so steep! This is such a hard decision. I also applied to the W2 scholarship but like the rest of you, am unsure if it's actually worth it!
  14. I just wanted to thank everyone for your advice. I am still pondering this decision but am very heavily leaning toward debt free. I have spoken to several nurses in my area and it seems that if I can get into a hospital as a CNA, working a few weekends a month, that I will have a much better chance at finding a job with an ADN. That would also be ideal because there is a good possibility that I could get the hospital to help pay for my BSN. I have always been responsible when it comes to finances, no point in taking on a hefty loan unnecessarily. If I want a prestigious school attached to my degree, I think that I'd be better off doing that for grad school anyway. I think my next step is to get my butt into a hospital and volunteer ASAP so that I can have a batter chance at getting a CNA job once I complete my first semester of nursing school!
  15. Can you PM me? I have some questions for you regarding both of these programs.
  16. What program allows you to work on your BSN while working on your ADN in Maryland? I saw that Towson does but Howard Community College was not on their list of affiliated community colleges.
  17. Have you heard from any of the accelerated students as to how rigorous their summer semester was?
  18. Did you volunteer or work as a CNA prior to finding a job? I have seen some RN-BSN programs that require you have a job before you can apply to their program. I'm so worried about finding a job with only an ADN. I definitely intend to get my BSN, it would just be better financially if I went this route.
  19. https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/looking-for-advice-974168.html It may be worth checking out my above post. I asked for advice from other nurses regarding which route to take. I also have several friends who actually are RN's in this area and I'm thinking that I will go the ADN route. From there, I will shoot for an online RN to MSN program. I'd be glad to share with you the advice that I have been given from current nurses, some of which are fairly recent graduates. It's a very tough decision, that's for sure!!!
  20. Volunteering is a really great idea! What exactly did you do as a volunteer? I actually have filled out a volunteer application at my local hospital on two separate occasions and have never heard back. Perhaps I should go in person. Thanks for the idea and I am really curious to hear what role you took on as a volunteer.
  21. I also am waiting to hear back from a few ABSN programs but am just concerned about student debt if I go that route? Are you waiting to hear from other community college's or 4 year universities?
  22. As far as scholarships, that would be great, but they are not guaranteed. If I knew that I could get scholarships to cover even half the tuition, I would go for the BSN for sure!
  23. I have the option for debt free education because I have been saving money for years. The community college is a very inexpensive route and the state colleges in Maryland are relatively cheap for state residents. Regarding the Masters program, I have already resigned from my previous career to complete my pre-reqs and I have already applied to several ABSN nursing programs. The application deadlines have already expired so at this point MSN is not an option. I am not sure how receptive the DC/MD/VA area is to nurses holding an ADN, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, when I look at RN job openings in this area, 98% of them either require or prefer a BSN. This is definitely one of the biggest reasons that I am concerned about going the ADN route, not to mention the fact that once I get through nursing school, I am sure that I won't exactly feel excited about having to go for another year or more for the BSN. Honestly, the only attractive thing about the ADN route is no debt.
  24. ThatBigGuy, no I do not have debt from previous degree, I was blessed with parents who paid for my college the first time. I'm not exactly sure how I can know if I will be able to get a job with an ADN only. I definitely know nurses personally who did get a job with an ADN but when I look at most of the hospital's job openings, most of them say BSN or BSN preferred. I'm almost 39 and don't have any children but who knows what the future holds for my husband and I. I'm not concerned about lots of nice things but I do like taking nice vacations! Ugh... I'm just so torn over this decision.
  25. I am really struggling with a decision regarding nursing school and I am hoping to get some advice from seasoned nurses. So here's my dilemma: I can attend a local community college which offers an accelerated 14 month program which will allow me to obtain my ADN in July 2016 with absolutely no debt. From there, my plan would be to continue with school to obtain a BSN online through a state school, also with no debt. The other option is that since I already hold a bachelors degree in another field, I can attend a second bachelors program in a more prestigious school to the tune of 40k-60k in student loan debt. I would obtain my BSN by September 2016 or December 2016, depending upon which school accepts me. I have already been accepted into the ADN program which starts in May. I won't know about the other two schools until March or April, however I am confident that I will be accepted to at least one of them. All of my post bachelor pre-reqs resulted in a 4.0 GPA plus I have 12+ years of real world experience, with 7 of it being in management. Part of me is really inclined to go the debt free route because I do not want a big student loan but I am really afraid that I won't be able to find a job with an ADN only, especially since I have zero patient contact experience. But then the other part of me wants to just get the BSN ASAP which would be the second bachelors program. I really feel like this is the biggest decision of my life and I would greatly appreciate anyone who can offer me some guidance.
