Violence against nurses
It was a sad day when one of the best nurses that I had the pleasure to work with was "let go" due to defending herself against a violent patient. Not only was she let go, she was told to "keep quiet". We worked together in the Emergency Room for years. Knowing that we had been trained with CPI to manage an agressive patient, we all felt comfortable in these situations. We also had an excellent security staff whose presence was constant in our ED. It's the ones that you don't know about that are the downfall. This patient had no history, that we were aware of at least. My friend was tossed around like a rag doll. It sickens me to know that this is happening not only at this facility, but all over the country. We know as nurses that there are times, especially in the emergency room where yes, you do get hit, scratched, spat upon, etc. but when you are merely trying to defend yourself so that you can survive and this is they way its handled, is truly disgusting! The battle is ongoing, but I can only hope that she recovers and is able to find a new job somewhere that she will not only be appreciated, but will be able to show just how great of a nurse she truly is.

MSN in education vs leadership, which is best?
You may or may not be aware that per the AACN, the required degree for a Nurse Practitioner as of 2015 is the DNP. It is no longer considered for the MSN. Although you can be classified as an advanced practice nurse, just not as an NP. I also wish to complete my MSN, but do not have the time nor the resources to move on to the DNP. That is not my desire, however if I want to be competetive as a nursing educator, then that is what will be required. I'm thinking I should have just gone to med school!

Online Nursing Schools vs Traditional Schools
I agree that while it may not be considered bullying, it could be misconstrued as discrimination. There are no specifics in job postings that require you to have a degree from a particular University or to say that your application will not be considered if you received your degree from an online University. Setting standards is not a bad thing, however you can not stereotype everyone that has a degree from an online university. Just because someone graduates from a well known, respected university does not guarantee that they have what it takes to do a job. In my opinion, it is not treating everyone equally if they are only considering applicants with degrees from certain types of educational facilities. It is violating state and federal employment laws because it can be seen as discrimination.
