I believe every cohort has a different schedule. In your first semester, you will be in lab, clinical, or class throughout the week. I don't remember having days off during Junior 1.... And yes, I am taking Senior 2 this summer :) I will have class from 8am to 4:30 pm on Mon and Tue, and clinicals on Wed, Thu, and Fri.

Thank you for your reply. I am doing undergraduate researches as a part of my Honors Project and working as an research assistant in the school that I would like to go. I attended several chances to attend meetings and presentations of doctors and other healthcare professionals about current healthcare issues. And I have an idea of what I would like to study about. Since i have a lot of limitations in getting a job as an international student, I am thinking of attending nursing externship program that are provided during every summer (if I go to graduate school..the program will be temporary but i can only work temporarily with a student visa anyway.) Would it count as nursing experience? Your advice is much appreciated!

I don't think non-direct ASU students are in a higher priority than transfer students. If you are not direct-admit, being an ASU student doesn't make any difference.

From what I heard, direct admits will get priority, and then transfer students will take remaining spaces. I guess there were very few spaces left for transfer students when I applied.

Congratulations on applying and wish you all the best! I am currently in ASU nursing program :) As far as I know, there are usually few spaces open for Fall if you are a transfer student. I wasn't able to get into a fall cohort with 3.9GPA and 85% on TEAS. It's not to discourage you if you have lower score than I did. Every year is different and I can't exactly say how many spots will be open this time. Keep your fingers crossed!

I would like to be a clinical researcher eventually. My situation is a bit different from others. I am an international student on a student visa and because of that, it can be much harder for me to find a hospital that is willing to hire me. Plus, I will have to leave this country if I can't get a job in 90 days following graduation.. I guess my question should have been, is it really disadvantage for me to go straightly to a graduate school? I don't know if I should take a risk of not being able to find an employer for the sake of getting hospital experiences that I may or may not be going to have.

I am in my senior year in BSN program. I've been doing some researches during my undergrad program and I LOVE it!! I know this is what I would like to do for the rest of my career. I am considering going to PhD in nursing right after I graduate with BSN (without working in hospital as a new grad). One thing that worries me is that I won't have clinical experience where I take a full responsibility of my patients. I love bed side nursing as well. It's not that I don't like it.. What are your thoughts about it? Do you think I need to work a year or two first before deciding to go to PhD program? Thank you..

Hi I am having a hard time deciding whether I should choose a private for-profit school or a state university for my bachelor's degree. My cumulative GPA is over 3.9 and I have 85% on both HESI and TEAS, which should be enough for both schools... A state university I am talking here has a really good honors program and is fairly reputable. It's ranked in 21 in the nation but the tuition is crazy.. about $70,000 in total. No scholarships. Nothing. (because I am an international student.) A private for-profit school is both regionally and nationally accredited and can give me over $3000 for scholarship each semester. Tuition will be less than $30,000 until graduation. It is well-known in this area. I am planning on applying to a graduate school right after I graduate from university. Graduate school should be internationally reputable since I might be going back to my country to work after master's or doctor's degree. so.. I'm wondering if graduating from a private for-profit school can affect me when I am applying for a graduate degree, or applying for a job.

Search "scottsdale community college" on google. I recently talked to one of their advisors and heard that they have no wait list for Fall 2015 (well.. they used to,but it decreased to ZERO this year.) Hope this helps!!

I can't maintain my visa status if I taken an online program so it should be campus based..

I am an international student who wants to be a nurse practitioner. My initial plan was to apply for BSN program but today I just found out that there is a ADN program in the community college I am studying now and there is NO WAIT LIST for this fall! Plus, I have completed all the prerequisites so I can literally just get in...It is A LOT cheaper as well. So I was thinking, what if I get my BS and go for RN to BSN program later..... When I did some research about RN to BSN, almost 99% of them were online, and I can only apply for campus based programs.. Should I just wait one more semester and go for BSN program? Or, Should I go for RN, then RN to BSN/MSN program(there are few in this country)? I really need your advice!

I searched for other programs but they are either more expensive or requiring different prerequisites.. I had a 3.93 GPA and my score qualifies me for the program that I applied to, but there were complicated problems in transferring documents for my visa. They said they will put me on their alternate list but I doubt I will get in.

I was gloomy for a week after being rejected from my dream school. Luckily I didn't cry over as much as I thought I would.. I just felt little homesick thinking of my family and friends I left in my country and how much I had to sacrifice to become a nurse in the US.. yes it is a painful experience but have to let it go and keep moving forward.. I will reapply for Spring 2015. Anyway here are some plans I came up with. 1. Psychology/nutrition minor or community health classes Which one do you think is better? 2. Learning a new language like Spanish. There are a large Hispanic population in my area. Should I take some conversational Spanish classes? or Rosetta Stone? 3. Medical internship. There is a pre-health major in the same university which is offering a medical internship. The thing is, I need to take additional general chemistry class and organic chemistry over this summer before applying to the hospital internship. Do you think its worth taking those two classes just to apply for an internship? I am thinking of becoming a nurse practitioner or physicians assistant. I know PA needs more chemistry classes but I am not sure if those classes would be useful when I apply for a nurse practitioner program. 4. Volunteer in hospital and American Red Cross 5. Applying for honor's school. The state university I am applying for has a really good honors classes and activities.. I might be able to apply for honors with another major like pre-health and get involved in research or other extracurricular activities for a semester. 6. Improving my English What are the other plans you can advise?.. And is there anyone who has a minor in nutrition or psychology? Please share your thoughts and how much it helped in your nursing study..

Thanks for the comments. I applied for a nursing school in a state university but they put me on the alternate list because of some issues regarding my visa. The problems are already solved though.. I am an international student and don't have a bachelor's degree.. I was looking into nursing programs in ivy league schools but do you think my scores are competitive enough for their programs?

Is there any other nursing schools that have good ratings and reputations? I did some research on nursing schools in the country but would like to have some advice from you guys... So far I have 3.93 GPA overall with 85% on TEAS... I don't mind flying to a different state...

Hi guys! Thanks for encouraging last time. I finally found a way to apply for Summer 2015 again and now I am on the alternate list for the summer cohort. I was told to wait until they call me when there is a space available but this seems like its going to be another long wait............. What did they say about the deadline for 'intend to enroll' form? If that was until last week, I assume that everyone chose to take their spaces for summer because I did not get any phone call from ASU nursing today.

Thank you for encouragement... :) I called nursing department and they said the cutoff was 1.755 for this summer/fall cohort and I had about 1.83. I am still confused but hoping for the best.. Anyway Congrats again, and I hope you enjoy the summer program!!

Fall semester was my only option since I am an international student and couldn't apply for Summer and VA. My adviser said "if you do advance and there are no spaces left in the DPC program, I will place you on the alternate list according to your admit score and will let you know if a space opens." I guess students who applied for Fall had nearly perfect scores. ..

Congrats!!!! I was applying for Fall semester and had 3.93 GPA with 85 on TEAS test. But I found out that I am on the alternate list.. I am really curious what the cuttoff score was!

Hi I am an international student from Korea. Now I am waiting for ASU nursing program to start in this fall semester, and while waiting, I am planning to get a CNA certificate during this summer break. I am also going to start volunteering for one of the hospitals around my house. If it is possible, I would love to work as a part-time CNA through CPT while in nursing school. Based on my understanding, CPT will allow me to work until gradation without reducing my OPT opportunities, as long as the job is closely related to my major and is a part-time job (I know if my CPT is a full time job, it will decrease OPT). I believe being a part-time CNA during my junior and senior year can provide me with a great chance to start off my career without violating any immigration law. Please correct me if I am wrong.. Also, I would like to apply for an unpaid internship program for the next summer(most likely, but they offer this program every semester) after my junior year. It is a 2-month educational program offered by one of the famous hospitals around my area. This can be a good experience as well, but the thing is, I am not sure if this will be considered my CPT.. Is there any foreign nursing student who has gone through similar internship programs? It makes me worry to read about how difficult it is to get a job as a foreign nurse with little/no experience after graduation.. It would be awesome if I can get some hands-on experiences so that I can be more ready to be in nursing profession. I will look forward to your reply! Thanks in advance:)

Hi! Good job on your TEAS score and GPA! I am also applying for 2015 summer program with 3.93 gpa and 85 on TEAS. I had the same question before I registered my last pre-req class, and I was told that I must choose a class that ends before May so that I can send the transcript by May 15 (because grades are usually posted a week after the last day of class & ASU admissions takes a week to process your transcript). However, I think you can solve the problem by filling out a petition. There must be some students who are in the same situation. You definitely have to talk to your adviser! :)
