  1. My friend is a nurse on the night shift in the ER. Try that one out for size. Not pretty EVER for her.........It will get better though. You will be able to tolerate more. Take care! [ QUOTE=LOVERN]I have had bad days at work before, but nothing like this. I can handle an occasional bad group, or bad patient, but not when everything goes to pot like this. I finally just had to leave work at the end of the shift and whatever wasn't done had to be passed on. I had done all I could do. I just hate feeling that way, like I left so much undone on my shift.
  2. I agree with the last reply. I even had to do a criminal background check just to VOLUNTEER at a hospital and other healthcare environments. So just prepare yourself. Things will get better for you. I am not sure if this was a very serious crime or not, but be as honest as you can with everyone....because the more honest and open that you are the better your chances are. If you were to apply at other schools, just ask them from the beginning..would your past pose a problem from getting accepted into the program....and after that..if you have an interview somewhere. Mention to the employer right away (which I am sure it will be indicated on a application form) that you want to be honest and know if your past will be an issue in receiving a position. Believe me, that would really, really help! Believe me....Let them know that you have changed your ways and learned from your mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. I have even done so myself. I wish you the best of luck!
  3. Before I sent my application to nursing school..I spoke to a counselor on the phone forever and she mentioned the criminal background check in 15 minutes after discussing the program. She said that I should add $15.00 onto my application fee for this or else it would delay the entire process. Sorry you had to go through something like this. However, I totally understand the the reasoning.
  4. Good luck to ya! QUOTE=Medic2005]Hello all wanting to go back to school to be a RN, currently work nights make good money just looking for a change to be able to help people out possibly onto becoming a PA, i have good hopes for the future if only they will come through Thanks Jerry :)
  5. I realize that it's an Internet site and I don't want your diagnosis. I guess I basically just wanted your thoughts and opinions on experiences that you have had with patients with maybe the same or similar symptoms. That's all. They have other sites that do this. I thought I would try on this one as well.
  6. Hi all! I am new to the board and really need your advice or help. I have been having some back problems which actually feels more like lung pain on my upper right side. It feels like the upper lobe of my lung is truly what's hurting. It's lasts a day or two then it goes away and then comes back again. I do get short of breath quite often even while still, but my shortness of breath has been happening since I was a kid. I was diagnosed with a heart murmur many years ago. I have never really had any major respiratory problems. I AM NOT A SMOKER AND NEVER HAVE BEEN. Has anyone had a patient or have had these type of symptoms before and what was the diagnosis. I plan on going to the doctor eventually, but I am obviously very scared of what they would say. I would actually like to be able to start Nursing school before I am diagnosed with some dreadful lung disease. Signed... Scared as heck......please help!
  7. So, I'm working nights on a step down telemetry floor at Good Sam back in the 80's. We have one unit secretary (Ethel) for the whole hospital on nights. I have a really sick admit and I need her to come and build the chart. I also need the physician to call in and give orders. I page him at 11, 11:30, 12--no response. I page Ethel at 12:30. A minute later, the phone rings. I pick it up--"Hello, Ethel?" "What? This is Dr. xxxxx!!!! Who are you?" I'm Aaron--taking care of your patient. I need admitting orders for her." He sounds really pissed off about something and gives me the orders and slams the phone down. Has a history of being a jerk, so I don't think anything of it. Next day, he's in reaming out my boss at 7 in the morning. I'm still there working. She comes out and asks me what happened when he called. I told her and she started laughing hysterically. Turns out he thought I said "Hello asshole."
