  1. Yes, they did take my finger prints. I was told by one of the ladies in the office they most likely denied me bc of the dwi. I'm not sure if I can get it expunged. I am going to contact a lawyer tomorrow. And thank you, cross fingers and toes!
  2. Yes, I spoke with them today. One of the two hospitals did deny me, so I am not in. I'm heartbroken. I asked if there was an appeals process so I could let them know I have been cleared by the BON, and unfortunately there's not. I can try to get my record expunged or I also did some research and found out a college in a smaller town about 45 minutes from me that has an ADN program. I have left a message for the director to call me. I'm praying I can tell her my situation, and hopefully I can get in there. Perhaps their clinical sites are a bit more lenient. We shall see. I'm just waiting and praying.....heartbroken.
  3. Thank you for your positivity! The program I applied for is an ADN program. I don't really have a plan B, because my heart was so set on being a nurse. It's just so odd that one hospital cleared me and the other didn't. The one that did clear me is also known to be a stricter hospital, as it privately owned. The one who apparently denied me is the county hospital. Idk. Maybe I can get some positive news from the nursing department tomorrow. I just can't believe this would be the final no. Maybe they can tell me the steps to appeal this or something. Trying to keep my head up.
  4. Unfortunately, my school has the two clinical sites (the two major hospitals in our city that also own a lot of the clinics, etc.) and we have to be cleared by both. There are no alternates. My assault charge (which I wasn't even convicted of, it was dropped) was in 2011. I know that doesn't seem like very long ago, but my life has done a 180 since then. Do you know if anyone ever gets these clinical denials overturned?
  5. Well, I will tomorrow, but I'm kind of freaking out and feeling down in the dumps. Just wondering if anyone had any info to maybe rest my mind a bit.
  6. Hi! I am new to this site and desperately seeking an answer. I am a nursing major in Texas. I applied to the nursing program to hopefully begin in the fall of 2015. I have a few charges on my record from many years ago. A dwi and an assault charge that I was not convicted of and it was dropped. I sent in a petition to the board, went back and forth with them and finally got word I would be able to sit for the NCLEX in the future. Now another problem arises.....I've been waiting for my acceptance letter. I've spoken with my schools nursing department and they said I've been cleared by one clinical site and they're still waiting on clearance from the other one. Well, I still haven't heard anything from the nursing department about whether or not I'm accepted, but I got a letter from PreCheck (background check company) saying I have been denied for clinical rotations from one of the sites. Does this mean I am not in? Why wouldn't I have heard something from the school? So confused and heartbroken. Please help!!! Sincerely, Kara.
  7. Hello! I am new the forum, so I hope I'm doing all of this correctly. I just wanted some advice or stories from anyone who may have gone through something similar. I am a 33 year old, engaged, mother and nursing major. I am supposed to apply this semester to hopefully start the program in the fall of 2015. I had to send a Petition for a Declatory Order for approval for future licensure and to sit for the NCLEX in the future, to the Texas Board of Nursing due to some old charges I had. I had 3 alcohol related charges from my 20's when I was a party girl and my life was completely different. My charges were a public intoxication, an assault, and a DWI.....this is so embarrassing. Anyway, I sent in all necessary paperwork to the board on November 19th. Surprisingly, I heard back very quickly on December 19th, stating they were sending my case to the Enforcement Delartment for further investigation, which I expected. I heard back from them last week telling me that I would have to have a chemical dependency evaluation done by a board approved evaluator. I understand why, but it is a little defeating bc I am not at all dependent on alcohol or anything for that matter. I was just a dumb, wild girl partier and my life has done a 180. I have already set up the evaluation so hopefully this last step can get underway. I'm trying to be positive and tell myself that the evaluator will tell the board I am not dependent and they will have nothing else to investigate and no reason to deny me future licensure. I also don't know if they look at this, but I have a 3.78 GPA, all A's and perfect attendance. I just pray my dumb decisions back when do not keep me from my dream of being a nurse. I'm constantly worried and can't get my mind off of it. Has anyone else been through something like this? Thank you for any input and/or shared stories! -Kara
