I would go to Wilkes if I were you. I hear a lot of good things about Walden from students there however in the workforce their reputation is not that good. As programs keep popping up everywhere I think the market is going to get more competitive and the reputation of your school is going to be more and more important. For example my health network does not take on Walden students at all. So that’s just my two cents. Good luck with your decision!

Yes that’s the only reason Besides ability to finish faster. EKU is great! I would have stayed there. But I have a weird thing where I wanted to go to an in State school for my resume.

Yes I did. I actually went to EKU for one class and then transferred to Wilkes. EKU was great. I just wanted an in-state school on my resume. I graduated from Wilkes two years ago and have been practicing inpatient Geri psych since. I love it. The program has its pros and cons but I think they all do. No matter what school you go to (except steer clear of the ones with bad reps) the end result is all is the same. Pick the most reputable school that you can find that is also the least expensive. Hi yes I graduated from the program two years ago. Most of the faculty are pretty good. But there are a few that are difficult to work with. Program can be disorganized at times but I think that is true of most online programs. The exams were all proctored. Most of them were curved which really aggravated me since I busted my butt to learn the info. I was prepared for boards. But I also devoted my whole life to learning everything I could...did way more than I was expected to. Quit my job and just focused on school. I think we had to do 50 hours in child adolescent and the rest could be whatever population wanted. I did everything though. I did hours in outpatient, mostly inpatient, geriatric, adult, and child and adolescent. I wanted a well rounded experience. Good luck with whatever you decide! All programs have their pros and cons but the end result is the same. I love my career!!!

No no you misunderstand I absolutely love being a psych np. I'm interested in obtaining my FNP because I love learning and feel I don't know enough about the medical side of things. I work with the SMI population and would like to be dual certified to better serve this population from both the psych and medical side of things. I just don't want to do a post masters FNP plus a separate DNP and I kind of want both. And I want to do it the quickest cheapest route of course. I'm not looking for more money as I'm very well compensated as a PMHNP. I'm 40 and would be paying out of pocket as I don't want more loans.

Hi all I'm a masters prepared PMHNP looking to go back for my DNP. I also have interest in obtaining my FNP but don't want to do both a post masters FNP and a DNP. Are there any online programs that would allow me to obtain both at once? And is this a good idea or not?

Thanks! That makes me feel much better. In fact I am thinking of moving up my test date. I am sure I am ready I just am super anxious and want to put boards off. But honestly it's probably better if I just get them over with!

Ok so I am taking NP boards in a few weeks. I received my authorization to test prior to actual degree conferral. Per ANCC- "if your application is pending evidence of graduation/degree conferral, ANCC will retain your exam result" Has anyone been in this situation before? Does this mean they won't tell me if I pass or fail right away? Or does it mean they won't release the scores to the BON?? This is making me freak out because I can't imagine having to wait to see if I passed or not. Anyone know??

I divorced my husband over this same issue. He didn't support me going back to school either. We ended up getting back together a few years later. Now I'm a nurse and 6 months from graduating as an NP. Don't give up on your dreams!

I think it's a good program. I am learning a lot although it's mostly self taught. I took patho at EKU and they definitely have more PowerPoints there. They had really big class sizes though while Wilkes has very small class sizes. The other thing I like about Wilkes more is that our professors are actually our professors. At EKU we had graduate students grading us. The actual professors weren't that involved…no matter where you go there are going to be problems and good things. Good luck with your application! :)

You come to campus for a few days during Advanced Health Assessment. It's called an onsite clinical residency. We will meet with our professors and demonstrate a full assessment and things like that.

No preceptor for health assessment because there is an onsite clinical residency for that class. You need preceptors just for your clinical hours which would be in your last spring and fall semester. So not for a little while yet! :)

Not too many power points. Mostly just read the text and get tested on it. In health assessment there are a bunch of videos too. We also do assessments on an online virtual patient in Shadow Health (of each body system). I'm definitely learning a lot but most of it is self taught.

So far so good. I know some people are struggling but that is because they are taking patho and adv. health assessment at the same time...challenging! I am doing well so far. It's a lot of work but I knew that it would be!

Yes I got accepted everywhere I applied. I started at EKU because it was a summer start and I was eager to get started. I took Advanced Patho there. Then I decided to go to Wilkes (because my future preceptor already has an agreement with them) and my Patho transferred in. So I'm there now and it's going well so far.

Most associate degree programs require A & P I and II, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Sociology, Psychology, several English classes, several math classes (usually at least Algebra), maybe some Philosophy and Ethics. You really need to see which programs you are interested in for the specific requirements of that program as they can vary. Good luck!

3 years as a nurse and 4.0 BSN GPA. Are you going to apply?? I really wish I could talk to at least one person who went through this school!

Does anyone have any information on this program? They have a PMHNP program and an Adult Gerontology program. I have spent hours googling and looking through threads on here and it looks like no one has posted about what this program is like. I have seen several people talk about applying here but no one has posted about being in the actual program. I am accepted at and supposed to start at EKU this summer but I also got accepted here and I want to know all my options before beginning a program. Anyone go to Wilkes or know someone who did?

I am surprised to hear that about Drexel! I thought they had a great local reputation? I have heard from several NP's that it is a very good school. Now you have me rethinking that lol. How are you liking EKU?
