Advice needed, please
I just started as an on call nurse for a hospice company a couple of months ago. I have had many experiences with different hospices in the past, and have always admired the nurses who do this daily, but this company, in my opinion, was the one who always seemed to go above and beyond, gave excellent care, etc... So I decided that I would love to work for them for those reasons. I have absolutely fallen in love with the job, I love the work, the families, and the patients, and I had felt like I'd finally found the "happy medium" I'd been looking for since graduation, I love the job, make enough money I don't have to have a second job, and still have plenty of home time with my hubby and kids. I was working last week, received a call @ 0235 for a patient at the far end of my area (2 hours away), while on the road, I received a call telling me that the patient had just expired, I had been worried since the initial call, and had already been on the phone while driving to the nurse asking about the condition of the patient, but I continued on my way, arrived as fast as I could, and did what I was supposed to do... Today I get a call from our GM telling me that she doesn't want me to leave the company, I've been a great person and a great nurse, and am more than qualified for this job, but this is just not working...basically I am going to have to take a different area, 2 hrs away from home, or find somewhere else to stay while working. Neither of these are an option for me, I have a husband and 5 kids at home, and that is where I need to be. I called my immediate supervisor, crying and telling her what I'd been told, she calls the GM and then calls me back... the options above aren't ruled out as of now, but they are going to "discuss" it. I feel like the bottom just fell out from under me and I got slapped in the face. Also, when my immediate supervisor called me back, she said that when they had all discussed this last week there was another nurse who works for the company vying for my position....I feel like the main reason this is happening is because the other nurse has been with the company longer than me, and their willing to meet her demands before even considering what this would do to anyone else. Please help, I hate feeling like this, and I can't do what they're asking me to do...I feel like I need to be looking for a new job when I really don't want to.

Support needed!!! NCLEX Limbo!!
ooohhh that's sooo good to know...i was wondering b/c most of my questions were meds...then psych, delegation, and priority...a friend of mine took hers at the same time, 75 for her too and she says most of hers were meds...she started off saying that med questions she'd heard were the hard ones, so we must've been doing good, but when i talked to her earlier she's really stressing out and wondering if she passed or not....don't know if i'll get any sleep tonite or not...the arkansas board doesn't update until 7 am, and don't participate in the quick thingy with pearson vue...

do people say this to you?
My hubby is the same way...I graduate next month and when I first wanted to go to nursing school he didn't think I could do it because "I'm such a softy"...low and behold, I had my NICU rotation and fell in love with it. I got hired last month into the NICU I wanted and the Nurse Manager's reasoning to me was that she liked my heart and felt that I really did want to make a difference. I hear the same things every time I open my big mouth and say what I want to do or where I am going to work. My view on this is that #1, nursing has many many opportunities #2 NICU is and always will be my 1st love #3 I'm not looking forward to losing any babies, especially the 1st one, but when it happens I want to know that I've done everything in my power to give that baby and its family the best chance possible at life and that I've hopefully made a difference to that family. Death is something that no matter what area of nursing we choose, we will all eventually deal with, but that doesn't mean that the whole experience has to be a negative one...I want to be part of the positive and as a NICU nurse I feel that is my best way of being in that positive whether it means a long life or a very short life.

Hey May 06 grads..any of you seeking NICU?
:balloons: :biggringi :balloons: I had an interview yesterday with the NICU I went through during our peds rotation and got hired on the spot!!! I am soooo excited!!! This is the position and hospital I wanted all along. The nurse manager said she liked my heart and felt like I really wanted to make a difference; as long as my background check comes back and I'm not an "axe murderer" (lol) that I have a position there!!! When I called my husband after leaving there, I was crying I was so happy!!!

Hey May 06 grads..any of you seeking NICU?
Hi everyone!!! I graduate in May as well....down to 79 days left YES!!! I only got to go through the NICU for half a day, but absolutely fell in love with it. I have applied for two different hospital NICU positions, and plan to go to an open house this Saturday with the one I went through this past fall. I have an interview for a different area in that hospital Wednesday, and another interview lined up for the 17th with another hospital, but that one is a NICU position.....I'm scared to death, but soooo excited.
