  1. Okay all you pedi nurses, I recently started a new job as a float pool RN in an entirely pediatric hospital. I previously worked with adults so I only have an adult stethoscope. I am trying to decide if I need to buy a pediatric stethoscope AND an infant stethoscope as I will be treating patients of literally all ages, NICU neonates and older. How many stethoscopes do you have? Can I use my adult on my larger/older pedi patients? Is it worh it/necessary to get an infant one as well? Any advice for this new pedi nurse would be great. Thank you!
  2. Thank you for all the positive responses! It still stings a little but I actually ended up getting a different job within that hospital that I am really excited for that will actually expose me to almost every specialty! I am excited to get to know the hospital and my new population of patients and who knows maybe I will end up finding something I love that I didn't expect!
  3. So I have about a year and a half of med surg nursing under my belt. I made it through two rounds of interviewing and a shadow on my dream unit and got good feedback from everyone until I was told today that I was not chosen. I guess I would just like to hear your similar stories on this topic. I guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up too soon? It just seems like they spent a lot of time and energy interviewing me to not end up choosing me. I've been "rejected" from job opportunities before but never after having gone that far into the interviewing process. I'm basically just disappointed and kicking myself for being so upset over it but any kind words/similar stories to share would be appreciated! Peace and love.
  4. Thanks for replying! I have now decided to go to school full time at least in the fall and maybe two classes in spring and two next summer so I can end up graduating in 2.5 years instead of 4 years if I were to be part time the entire time. I am starting to think staying on my MedSurg floor will give me the most options as well. I already have an established relationship with my manager and hopefully she will work with me to accommodate. classea are still only on Tuesdays but obviously my work load will be heavier with 3 classes. Still scared to work part time for fear of a smaller paycheck but I think I might try it and see just how hard it is. If I really can't handle it I'll work part time on my floor.
  5. I am starting FNP school part-time in August. I am currently an RN on a MedSurg floor and have been for one year. I have never been satisfied with this job and always knew I wanted to work elsewhere as an RN but now I am having trouble deciding what to do. I want to work in primary care when I am an NP, I value my weekends and holidays and I am not someone who loves the random work schedule of acute care RNs. I am interested in looking at positions as an outpatient RN. When school starts I will be enrolled in two courses and they are only on Tuesdays so my availability isn't awful but I'm not sure I am comfortable working part time right now. Anybody have experience working four 10 hour shifts outpatient? Part-time outpatient? while in school? I'm struggling to choose between my happiness outside of work and the convenience of 3 12s with school. Any information/experiences/advice would be greatly appreciated!
  6. Thank you guys so much for all the feedback! I do have my BSN and I just found out that I passed the NCLEX! I will definitely keep looking into all these hospitals and start applying like crazy!
  7. Hi! I am a new graduate (December 2015) currently on the job search. I am taking the NCLEX early February. I just relocated to Connecticut so I do not have as many connections as some who went to nursing school here do. Looking for a job has been a daunting task so far. If anybody has any advice or is in my position as well, please comment! Thanks!
  8. Hope your new job is going well! I am graduating in December. Anybody know if Danbury will have a program for December graduates?
  9. When it comes to applying to places without residency programs, has anybody applied before sitting the NCLEX? Few openings leave out the requirement of having a current CT license when applying. Just wondering if any hospitals will review applications of future new grads or if I have to wait until after graduation and the NCLEX to apply to those types of positions. Thanks :)
  10. Thank you all for such thorough responses! I understand that idea about working at a smaller hospital first. I will definitely apply to as many as I can. I have always been eager to make moves regarding schooling and a career so I am just trying to plan out all the places I can apply before the time comes. I am also networking as best as I can because I know that could be the answer I'm looking for. Thank you so much you all have been extremely helpful!
  11. Hello! I will be graduating with my BSN from a school in NC in December and want to start applying to jobs in Connecticut ASAP. I am wondering if anybody has experience with the new grad programs offered at St. Francis, Hartford Hospital, Stamford, or Yale New Haven. How competitive are these hospitals? If there is not a specific page or application for a new grad program, how soon should I apply? Best way to get my foot in the door if I didn't have clinicals up there? I am also open to any new graduate positions in the state of CT. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! thank you :)
  12. Thanks so much! That is all very helpful. I do have a significant other who works in CT and I'm from the south and always knew I wanted to leave it at some point. Who knows how long we will stay in CT but it's looking like the place I'll be starting my career and I'm excited! I find New England pretty charming and definitely different from where I grew up which is my goal at the moment. I will definitely look into these hospitals for internships and jobs. Thanks!
  13. I am graduating in December 2015 and planning on moving to Connecticut after graduation. I want to land a nursing internship this summer at a hospital in Connecticut. Being out of state, I am unfamiliar with the hospitals in this area. I have done some research but I was wondering if anybody had some specific advice from prior experience or just from living in the Connecticut/Massachusetts area. I am really looking into Hartford Hospital. I still have not seen applications available for a lot of summer 2015 programs. When should I apply? How long does it take to hear back? How much does completing an internship really help me when it comes to landing a job there when I graduate? How has the job field been for new grads in Connecticut? Any advice or knowledge at all would be helpful. Thank you!
