  1. Hi guys! I've saw several threads similar to this one; however, they were all several years old. I'm wondering if any hospitals in Mississippi still offer the tuition payment in exchange for a work commitment. I've contacted Forrest General in Hattiesburg and South Central in Laurel. Both of them no longer offer it. Does anyone have any information regarding this? I'm really interested in whether Whitfield still does this?
  2. Thank you so much for sharing! You gave some really useful information! My state, Mississippi, seems to be pretty strict as well so I'm thinking hard about moving to Texas or Florida. Both seem to be ok with giving second chances.
  3. Hi! I'm so glad to hear your story. Do you have any experience or know of anything that's gotten licensed as a NP and gotten a DEA # to prescribe meds with a criminal background?
  4. The best advice that I can give you is to hire an attorney to help you through the process of applying for your license! It's shows that you're a responsible adult serious about becoming a nurse.
  5. Hi guys! Hopefully I didn't post this twice. The first time it froze and it's not showing up on my activity log. So sorry if it happens! Anyway, I want to become a NP. I'm concerned with being able to get a license and a DEA # to prescribe meds. I was arrested for possession of precursors. While at my stepbrothers house, the cops showed up and arrested everyone. I was there because I was up to no good, but I was not making or intending to make drugs or even in possession of precursors. We were in his house which is directly connected to his shed and the items that were found were in his shed. Regardless, I have and will continue to take responsibility for my poor decisions. I was given pre-trial diversion bc I had never been in trouble before and haven't since either! I completed a probationary period and the state dropped the charges and then I was allowed to expunge the ARREST( not the charges bc they were already dropped) from my record. At the time of application, the arrest will have been 10 years prior. I've completed 9 months of counseling, comm. service, maintained honor grad, and been a teacher in my church for 2 and a half years now. The arrest really was the best thing that could have ever happened to me bc it scared me so badly I really straightened out. But now i'm scared I'll never be able to get licensed as a NP or get a DEA #. Has anyone successfully gotten these with an expunged record? Or known of anyone who has? Thank you!
  6. Point taken! Those are all great incentives.
  7. It doesn't seem like there's much incentive for a BSN to take the additional steps to become a NP, which is really sad to me. How many days do you typically work per week?
  8. Thanks to everyone that replied! NPs should def be paid more! I honestly can't believe it. It just seems so silly that you guys are pretty much doing a physicians job and aren't even making 100k per year. I could live with that! I know it's due to the amount of education but still it's practically the same job.
  9. So when you say bonus you mean an end of the year bonus? Not add that to your monthly pay bonus?
  10. Thats def a great idea! I almost can't help myself though. I'm a planner and not being able to decide on what I'm going to do with my life is killing me! Thank you for replying.
  11. Thank you for sharing!!
  12. Mississippi. I'm aware that I would most likely have to move to land a nice paying job. I just thought you guys were paid more. You def should be!
  13. Please indicate whether the income you are writing about is before or after taxes. Thanks guys!
  14. Hi guys! I'm really thinking about becoming a FNP. There's just one thing tho- the pay! Every website I look at says the salary is anywhere between 75 and 95k. Surely, this is not the actual pay of a FNP. I've heard a little about productivity stipends, but could someone explain them. Do you get it as a bonus at the end of the year or as extra monthly income? If anyone doesn't mind sharing your salary, please feel free too. If you guys could just tell me whether I would bring in a guaranteed 7000 per month, I'd be satisfied. 8000? 9000? I'd just like a ballpark. Thank you!
