  1. I had a pt w/ recurrent Diverticulitis who was on antibiotic therapy for a week now. She has been having 5-6 watery BMs. Her WBC is 17,500. A stool culture was obtained for potential C.diff (no results yet). She is on contact precautions. She is on Levaquin, Flagyl, prednisone, Invanz, and other drugs. My nursing dx so far is: Diarrhea R/T adverse effects of medications AEB 5-6 loose stools Is that dx good? My assignment is to choose the #1 priority nursing dx, and I'm torn b/w that and deficient fluid volume r/t ? aeb low hct/hgb/diarrhea? I also have to state all the data that supports that dx and so far I have: -pt had 5-6 watery BMs -Hgb 10.5 (normal 12-18) -Hct 34.1 (normal 40-55%) -Intake= , Output= -On antibiotic therapy for a week now, has been on antibiotic therapy in the past Is there any other data that I should include? For expected outcomes, I have: Hgb and Hct will be WNL Pt will have a formed BM Pt's I&O will be balanced For interventions, I have: A. Keep pt hydrated B.Monitor WBC C.Obtain stool culture Are there any other interventions you recommend? Please help! Thank you
  2. I went to UIC my freshman year only to find out that I probably wouldn't get into their nursing program. I have friends there who are very smart and are involved with community work, yet they did not get in. From what I heard, they accept around 90 out of 700 into the program. My chances there are very slim, so I decided to apply to NIU. My current GPA is 3.75. Living in the city was very exciting, but my grades suffered. I had a C in both my Chemistry and Biology classes as well as Statistics and Human Nutrition due to a loss in my family at the time. However, my grades now are much better- all A's and a B in Anatomy I. I made the decision to go to a community college to finish my prereqs. I just want to know if I even have a chance in getting in? I'm so worried, I don't know where else I would go that is convenient for my parents and me. This process of getting into nursing schools would be so much easier if I had someone going through the same thing. That is why I'm here. Please help with any advice or whatever, thanks! Also, where else did you all apply to that it is in the same tuition range as NIU?
