One good thing about my uni is that students get to submit our preferences and the university would do their best to try and allocate us to the places we prefer! :) I believe I've made a pretty good impression on them (at least I got "high distinction" for the past 3 clinicals from my clinical instructors and some RNs did mention I should go back and work with them!). However the thing is, I am an overseas student, and overseas students are basically at the bottom of the food chain in regards to employment opportunities, so I'm just no sure whether to spend my last clinical at this hospital (which is a public one) or to go for a private hospital that might give me a bigger chance of new grad employment. Anyway thx for the reply!!

I've had completed 3 blocks of clinical at the same hospital and am now considering going back for the last one. do you think that's a good idea to spend all ur clinicals in the same place?

I'm currently doing my first ward placement and as a student, you are allocated to a nurse everyday, but sure you do have your own patient load. So here is the thing, whenever I work with nurses that don't smile or to talk to me (often the younger ones), I would be extremely nervous and always wonder if I did something wrong or screwed something up. I also tend to forget tiny details and cannot answer simple questions (like 20 divided by 15 times 4) or remember what they just taught me. However when I work with nurses that would chat and laugh my performance is a lot better and I am even able to take care of all my patients independently and assist my nurse for some time-consuming tasks. For those who share the same feeling, how do you guys cope with this?

Thx mate! These are really good advice! AIN positions these days are so hard to find , I think is like the TPPP programs, local Australian students are given priorities over international students. It will be amazing if I can get a AIN job haha Anyway thank you again! Good luck to our study!

how about other positions in the hospital like catering attendant or patient service attendant? Would these help? Or consider doing some volunteer work? My last clinical placement went fine and I received some great feedbacks from the staff and clinical instructor, some of them did mention I should come back and work alongside them after graduating (But I was so dumb that I did not ask them to be my referee), so I'm thinking about some ways to stay in contact with them.

Thx for the response! The reason for this thread is because deep down I know I'm not the competent type, so I'm just wondering how can I increase my chances to get employed! Do you think it would help if I do some volunteer work for the hospital or apply for the non-nursing part time position in the hospital? (eg. psa/receptionist/catering)

I'm a second year student and just recently I have decided to become a NICU/babies unit RN in the future. I understand that the positions for grad programs for local Australian students is already competitive enough, let alone being a international student. So I'm just wondering what can I do to enhance my chances for future employment? Thx! :) One more thing, I prefer public hospitals over privates as I believe 99% of the privates are only trying to make profit and they don't really care about people.

I'm a third year nursing student, gonna complete my NICU clinical placement very soon, got some really positive feedbacks from most of the nurses in my department as well as the clinical facilitator. I'm just wondering would it be OK to ask if they have any part time employment opportunities for me as a student and perhaps a RN position in the future after graduating? (Still got one more year to go)
