after the CBT and completing the verification forms... do applicants under the new process of registering under the NMC have to wait for a decision letter? or is the decision letter only meant for those under the old process... thanks in advance! and congratulations to those who passed!

First off, congratulations! Regarding the payment, I'm confused. Do we have to pay another £130 or does the initial payment for the first sitting cover the second? Oh, and does there seem to be anything new regarding the critical questions mechanic?

I have also found mine in the mail today. But in quite curious at to why there are 2 attempts again and why NMC sent me a message saying to check my Pearson account for my score (I thought that they remarked the old one, only to find the same result)

Hmm have you had any problems rebooking the exam? Because a fair number of people I know aren't able to book their second exam and both Pearson and the NMC are pointing fingers at one another

Apparently majority of the those who took last December failed, and upon asking around the people seem to be passing this January. Now if only I could book my second sitting and there wasn't the 2 take rule.. Things would be looking up

pretty much sums it up... i just really wish they weren't charging us for a shoddy system. even if was a new format they should've ironed it out because it feels as though we're funding their experiments in some way. at least they could've taken out waiting for 6 months if by any chance we fail for a 2nd time.

The problem lies where they are holding examinations with 2 takes all the while the exam is going through revisions. They should at least test it until a stable one comes out before making us pay for it

Based on the candidate guide, I'd say about 20 (assuming the math is right and none of the domains have critical questions in them). Pretty huge, Considering that if we don't Ace the critical questions, it is highly unlikely that they would mark the rest of the exam. >.

So far the only thing they got rid off according to other takers were the indications for the critical questions. But I think they stand firmly with the mechanic T.T

This is just too cruel..

They keep throwing me the 28 day gap between taking tests. But I keep telling them in already past 28 days but still unable to book my second sitting. I really hope that they scrap the 2 take rule because 6 months of didactics (before sitting take 3) is heavy considering that what caused the failure isn't the examinees incompetence with regards to nursing.

None of the people I know have been able to. I have asked both Pearson and the NMC but they keep throwing me towards the other.

I agree with you about how hard it is to get registered. But the main gripe that the others (me included) are picking on is that the NMC is CHARGING people to take an exam which probably is in its beta Stages and the worst part is that they are making alterations on the run while people take the exam having reviewed for a previous version of their exam. If the test was really solid then there wouldn't be this many complaints as it would be easier to swallow failure from a really hard exam than it is from an erroneous one. People here (yes, me included) have also taken numerous other exams and with that they have a background to compare their experiences with licensure exams. From experience the OTHER exams are certainly more difficult than the cbt but without the bogus mechanic of critical questions.

Humm.. If I remember correctly, there was a person here who had their critical questions marked, and after reading their reply I can't help but feel annoyed as they made the change without notice and every reply they have me seemed to imply that they are just being "fair" as opposed to the scenario cited.. For the record being inconsistent hardly justifies fair and I would at least want a refund or a free second take when the bugs have been ironed out.

i tried scouring the site but i keep getting back to this [email protected] ... i've email them but to no avail... im getting increasingly worried about take 2. first off. we aren't sure if the bugs were squashed second, there could be more bugs for all we know... third, payment for re-taking fourth, i'd hate to go for didactics if the result would be the same for take 2, although i really do feel confident about my performance for take 1 fifth, i don't know if my employer can hold out that long... >.

I'm with you all the way for the refund! and im totally rethinking if i should take the 2nd try since it would probably be under revision with us as a sample group... (again at our expense) According to the guide we are given 2 attempts at the test probably due to a "fair" second shot. but if fail on take two we won't be able to retake the exam after 6 months. and im not completely sure but i think ive read somewhere that we need supplemental education or something prior to the test.

yeah.. so its kinda discouraging to take it a second time since we're all unsure if this version of the exam ironed out all the bugs or just added a whole ton of new ones... the problem for me is that i need it by the end of january.. >.

hi! first off im sorry i couldn't reply via pm.. i have to get around 15 posts before im allowed to.. honestly i do believe that they're making an effort although i don't think its fair on our part seeing as we were the first batch for the new format. having only 2 tries and already paid for the first we should expect a solid exam experience and not see the need for last minute revisions as quoted from foxtrot below. i simply want things to be ironed out and get our fair shake in all of this... seeing as if by chance we don't make it through take 2 we have to wait another 6 months or something. still good luck 2 you too! honest to god the only time i found marked questions were in the practice exam which was posted AFTER the first take... and seeing that they updated the blueprint >.>

The saddest part is that they won't give you any feedback. It's either you pass or fail with no numerical values to at least give us an idea about what went wrong. I emailed the NMC regarding this and all they said was that marking the exam begins with the critical questions and if we get one wrong they wouldn't push through with marking the rest of the questions. It would be super helpful if we at least knew what were those critical questions.
