  1. So I start my obstetrics rotation tomorrow and although I'm excited (!) I'm also feeling rather anxious as I don't know what to expect, since I've only dealt with patients on Med-Surg floors. I was just wondering if anyone wants to share their experiences or has advice on what to expect and what I should be prepared for? Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it! :)
  2. I'm almost done my first semester of nursing school and sometimes I can't stop thinking about my third semester, when I'll get to do an obstetrics rotation. I know I want to be either a labor and delivery nurse or a NICU nurse. I know it's not for a while, but sometimes I feel like I'm just trudging through everything else. My third semester can't come soon enough! What's it like being a labor and delivery or NICU nurse?
  3. I'm halfway through my first semester of nursing school (yay!) and thursday is my first day of clinical (double yay!). I have been placed at a rehabilitation hospital for people who just had knee and hip surgery, as well as recovering stroke patients. I will be there twice a week for six weeks. I was wondering what clinical will be like. What will I be doing with my patients? What I will be expected to do in terms of assignments? What is the hospital environment like? I'm extremely excited yet very nervous at the same time. I've done well learning skills in the labs at school but I'm afraid I'm going to freeze in the real world. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
  4. I start tomorrow too! I know exactly how you're feeling. I'm so excited, yet so nervous to embark on this crazy journey.
  5. I'm starting nursing school tomorrow! It's an intensive 2 year program (RN) and I'm more than excited to embark on this crazy journey. Any tips for my first day?
  6. I have orientation tomorrow for the nursing program I'm starting in January (I can't wait until I start!). I was just wondering what one wears to orientation? Also, what usually happens at orientation?
  7. A big thank you to everyone who replied. I really appreciate all of your advice. I bought an A&P book, so I'm going to glance through that, but mostly I'm just going to enjoy my last month of freedom. I can't wait until I start though!
  8. I was just accepted into nursing school and I was wondering how can I prepare myself for the program? Are there any books you would recommend I read? Any new habits I should pick up? Anything else I should know? Basically, I want to be as prepared as possible. Yes, I realize I cannot be truly ready for the great unknown, but if there is something you nurses or nursing students wished you had done/learned/read/etc. prior to nursing school, us newbies could really benefit! Thanks!
  9. I'm starting an intensive nursing program this January (6 consecutive semesters with 2 weeks break in between for a total of 2 years) and I was wondering if it's possible to hold down a part-time job while in nursing school? I currently work 17.5 hours a week as a receptionist at a veterinary clinic. It's not a terribly busy clinic and I can see myself being able to glance at my textbooks when it's quiet, but I want to get good grades and I'm sure it's only going to get harder as the program goes on. Thoughts?
