Pearson Vue issued me a new username but I was still unable to register to re-sit for about 7 weeks after my first attempt. The Y means that the topic on that row may be included in the test in the correlating column, an E means that it is an essential topic and you have to get the questions right. Regarding the exam- every question was different to my first attempt and generally the type of questions were a bit different as well, closer to the practice questions. My first attempt had many of the questions form the Royal Marsden Hospital book referred to earlier in this thread but the exam yesterday didm't have a single question from it. I did find that reading that book (skimming in parts) was probably pretty good prep so I would still recommend checking it out. I also went through the blueprint and l had a quick look at the resources for the essential questions. There were more questions referring to the NMC guidance, NICE guidelines and their track and trigger ons system so I would focus on these areas. Overall it felt much easier because the questions (although a grammatical nightmare) were not as ambiguous as in the first test, I did walk out feeling very nauseous and thinking I may have failed so I was super excited to see the pass when I checked online. Once again the results were available immediately, I took two hours doing the exam (went through all the questions three times) and walked out and straight to the closest bar, sat down and checked my results with a beer in my hand... should have been champagne! My results were available while my friend was still doing the exam and we started at the same time. One last tip for those who paid the application fee under the old system is to email [email protected] and request that your payment be transferred to the new system. I now can't move on the the next stage for up to a week bc the application site is asking for payment and I have to wait for them to transfer it over... I'm pretty sure this could have been done before I passed the exam so it might be worth checking prior so that you are all good to go when you pass. Good luck to everyone, they put you through such an (expensive) emotional roller coaster but it will be worth it in the end!

Oh thats interesting that you are doing it in NICU, is your role very limited? Sometimes I'm a bit suspicious about what the agency says. In a few hours I will be sitting the exam for the second time.... fingers crossed!

shimtastic i have no idea what the pass rate is but it was very very low and is now improving. foxtrotunicorns thanks and it was on of the UK agencies who told me that... they were organising ONP placements for nurses and they said that it was always on wards not in specialties... I think the limits to your scope of practice in that role are pretty restrictive so most ED/ICU skills would be excluded. I don't even remember how to be a general nurse and have never worked on the wards as an RN only as a EN! Love the name by the way.

I think if we fail the exam they should allow us to do the ONP if we had received an offer... however I have heard that you can't do it in specialty areas and I am only interested in ED and ICU! Thedude9 I had the same problem as everyone else but eventually I was able to book it again. Pearson cue issued me with a new username and it still didm;t work for a while. I sat the exam at the beginning of november and it was well over 28 days when I could rebook it.

I'm so glad to hear that people are passing now, the agency I've been speaking to have said that in the last week or so they have had a fair few pass when before they only had one pass. I'm now a lot more relaxed about retaking it and in exactly one week I should know my result! Regarding the essential questions, when I took it they were marked and there were 40 essential questions!!!!! probably about half were the really important law, ethics and general nursing and the others were really specialty specific. My hope is that they have removed or improved the ambiguous questions and that they allow for one or two incorrect questions, I kind of hope that they haven't removed them altogether with a pass rate of only 60% because that really would let anyone pass! I would love to know if anyone has failed in the last week. I will let you guys know how I go next week... fingers crossed as I have a visa, flights and everything organised and I really don't want to apply for different jobs but if I fail again then the NMC is dead to me and I think I'll give up.

When you do the practice Qs you select a button which says something along the lines of 'show answer' or 'check answer' on each question page. I'm not authorised for any attempts after this and it's my second i'm not sure why some people seem to have three.

I'm registered to retake (refail) the test on the 19th of Jan, after about a month of taking it the first time I was able to rebook, which due to few appts meant it will be > 2 months between tests. I spoke to PV and they reset my account with a new username and said that would fix it however it still didn' t work for a couple of weeks.

Are you sure thats the right twitter name? Just had a look and the only NMC one i can find is @nmcnews which is only stuff they have released, I would love to read what others have tweeted

I just got the same email and also had a brief period of hope that my result may have changed but alas, still a fail! I only have one authorisation and it says that it isn't until the 16 of Jan even though I sat the exam more than 28 days ago. I wonder if they have reviewed the exam... problem is (one of the many problems) when you speak to the NMC they have no idea what is going on!! Like Thedude9 I need mine by Jan, I got my visa today and am ready to go registration or otherwise. As far as a refund goes I guess there is no chance of that as I imagine most of the fees go to Pearson Vue for administering the exam. Does anyone else feel like this is the most unfair and frustrating process they have ever attempted?

I did the free practice test and didn't find it to be overly useful but it's free so I would recommend doing it. I haven't seen anywhere you can get the paid practice test from. I still can't register to re-sit the test but the agency I've been talking to in the UK have said that the NMC are looking into the exam issue... don't know how true this is. It's interesting that some people weren't aware of which were the essential questions, somewhere I read that we would be told if the question was essential and about 40 of the questions I received had a note up near the top of the page stating that they were essential questions (can't remember exact wording)

There is also a question that has no correct answer... unless their "AND" was meant to be "OR"

Know everything about inflammation! Try to get your head around cellular level physiology and everything else will make more sense. Think clinically e.g. why/how does disease A cause symptom X Use case studies to solidify your learning Use acronyms for cranial nerves etc. For complex processes such as renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system draw or find a flow chart and keep practicing drawing it until you can do it from memory When running/driving/showering run through things in your head e.g. the path of blood flow from different chambers of the heart through which valves to which arteries to the body to the lungs and back to the heart Its so awesome when you learn enough to deduce why a process is happening even if your are unfamiliar with that exact condition
