  1. Accepted!!! Best of luck to everyone still on the waitlist.
  2. Hey grace_anatomy, Glad to hear I am not the only one scouring their inbox this week! My guess is that we will hear something early next week if we get in with the first round of waitlisters. I am thinking positive thoughts for all of us on the waitlist!!
  3. Thanks alliegem :) Hopefully the timing will be close to the same as last year as that is only one week to go!
  4. Hi alligem- just wondering if you have heard when admissions will be notifying the first round of waitlisters? This wait is definitely more painful than the first time around as I am so close! I am assuming around 2/20 which I believe was the given deadline to secure a spot?
  5. Thanks Allie :) I am nervous but feeling positive. Thanks for being an ambassador on these forums. Your insight and info on the nursing program is very much appreciated. Hope to see you soon!!
  6. scottryana, you have an amazing background! I am also surprised. I posted a question on the VCU ABSN 2014 forum to see how many of the wait listed people actually got in. Hopefully will hear back soon.
  7. Everyone check your emails! I am wait listed ranked #3 but still so excited to be considered! I am hoping for the best as it looks like from last year's nursing cohort at least 4 people on the wait list got in!
  8. Hi Allie, I applied to the ABSN program for 2015 and just got the email that I am wait listed. I see from your cohort that at least four people on the wait list got in. Do you know how many total?
  9. Excellent! BTW, scottryana and bbcd, I will be turning 40 (ugh) this April. Good to see I have other ABSN potentials in my age range :) Hope we all get in!
  10. charming_kitty, the admissions officer told me this when I spoke with her a few months ago as I was finalizing my application. I think I did sign-up for the newsletters, hope that is the case!
  11. I hope we start hearing back next week, I am on pins and needles! I just met a girl in my building this week that is in the traditional program. She said it was really hard but she loved it!
  12. I was told that I would most likely get an invite to Duke Days before I hear back about being accepted but it would just be a courtesy / "save the date" invite. From what I understand, the Duke Days invite email does not mean that you are accepted. I did receive an email earlier this week about the Spring 2016 application availability. I hope that is not a bad sign Did anyone else receive this email?
  13. Yes, I was told March, as well. I am confused - do we need to fill out Fin Aid application prior to being notified or our acceptance? I am already receiving financial aid for current schooling and filled out the FAFSA last year. Not sure how this will filter over to Duke if I am accepted?
  14. elefant3, thanks for the reminder. I forgot that we will have the Duke Days timing email prior to the official acceptances. I hope that first round acceptances don't go past early March. Does anyone know how the admission process works with first round and second round acceptances for the Fall start date? What is the timing for second round?
  15. stategrl, I thought that only the fully accepted applicants will be invited to Duke Days? From what you mentioned it sounds as though they can invite you to Duke Days if you are not accepted to the program? Is this true?
  16. Thanks for the info roczn! It is very helpful to hear an insider's viewpoint. I completely understand your feelings on the 80% pass criteria. I am currently in an LPN program with the same criteria. My freshman semester was no problem, however, I am in my sophmore semester now taking Pharm, Med Surge, and Psych and it is much more challenging - especially going from Fundamentals to Med Surge. I am passing, however, you are correct in telling us all to stay on top of it. Nursing school requires stamina and being proactive with studying, for sure! I have a question on the nursing manuals/programs that VCU uses. Do you have Evolve Elsevier books and test with Hesi? I believe that is what I saw when I was at the info session but just want to make sure.
  17. Homelife - thanks for the info and congrats on your acceptance! When does the Spring cohort start? If you don't mind me asking, what was it about the Duke Days that helped you make your final decision?
  18. I just got an email that my application is complete. They aren't making final decisions until March. I was hoping for Jan / Feb like last year. Oh well, will have to ride it out even longer. Can someone tell me what the Duke Days entail?
  19. Hello all! I'm applying to Duke and VCU's ABSN programs. Nursing will be my second career as I already have a Master's degree in another science. I don't have a lot of nursing experience yet aside from 2 semesters in an LPN program but am hoping that my essays reflect my passion for nursing. I was very impressed with the school when I visited a few months ago. The admissions counselor was great and was able to answer all of my questions. Now the wait....
  20. Hi Ph33rbenkthankslol, Yes, $900 - 1150 per month for all utilities, cable, wifi. There are cheaper areas if you are willing to commute a bit longer. I don't think you can really get anything substantial for less than $800 / month close to school. I've only been in the area for 3 years so I may not have all of my bases covered....
  21. Hi Ph33rbenkthankslol, I live in Shockoe Bottom which is a 5 minute drive and 20 min. walk to VCU. There are several apartments down here and you can find a one bedroom for ~$950 - $1100, everything included (utilities, cable, wifi). The Fan area is also a nice area to live that is only ~10 - 15 minute drive. Houses and apts. are older and utilities are usually separate and can be expensive in the winter months, however, neighborhoods are quiet and quaint. There are definitely plenty of transport buses from commuter parking lots at VCU. I got my "application complete" email today, horray!!!
  22. I still have to finish my pre-reqs in the Spring but the admissions counselor said that was OK. I'm really hoping for VCU since I already live in Richmond.
  23. Hi all, I have also applied and am still waiting for the "completed and ready for review" email, as well. Is it true that there are 400 applicants? I went to an info session and I thought it was 400 applications, but only 225 or so have actually made it through to "complete" status? Does anyone know for sure?
