  1. Hello dishes. I am so fortunate that you read my post and responded. This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for when I came here. Please do keep posting as and when you might think of something that I can benefit from. Thank you so much for your selfless gesture. Folks like you are a source of inspiration for kids like me. Appreciate it greatly :)
  2. :) Please find my answers inline
  3. THANK YOU SO MUCH dishes. This is a very very valuable piece of advice. I will certainly try this though I live pretty far from Bloor. But then you also said I could try other children's rehabs too. I will do that. I am already volunteering at a children's care facility, but not medical or anything. I look after 20 children as they all flock to me though there are 4 other volunteers. That is what I love to do. To care for children. Thanks so much.
  4. Thanks for your response loriangel14. I understand what you mean about not being allowed anywhere near patients. Will have to think of different options then. And about not addressing comments on legal working age, there are 2 reasons. Firstly, I have to let you know that I have written what I have experienced. Me and 2 of my friends weren't hired in MacDonalds last summer (2014) saying we were underage. COme back next year is what the hiring guy told us. Another friend who was 16 got through (and treated us with the money he earned :)). Secondly, and more importantly I have found that often threads go everywhere and people start discussing topics which actually have no value for the person seeking advice. What age I could start working etc etc is not what I am really concerned about. My main reason for starting this thread was to get guidance and advice on how to gather some work experience, as early as possible, that gives me a headway in my future career. And I have got a lot of it right here in this thread. That's the reason why. Trust this clarifies.
  5. Oh ok. Thank you for your response NotReady4PrimeTime. So doing PSW looks like the only option around. And I can take that up only after 2 years or more. In the meanwhile I am wondering what to do. Should you have any advice on what I could do in the meanwhile, request you to please bounce it by. Thanks once again.
  6. My thoughts exactly. Thanks much :) So keeping this as the base, do you think if I do a course in US over summer of 2015, I can get someone to hire me as a volunteer at least?
  7. I’m not responding to the posts on “minimum working age” – no offence to anyone. Thanks for responding. However I would like to stick to the my main topic and get meaningful advice / guidance from seniors here. There is no way I will be able to manage 2 courses - my IB high school & full time PSW (maybe some people can as some have mentioned here, I appreciate them, but it’s not me). So do you think I can do the short course in US over summer of 2015 and offer my services as a volunteer CNA? If they don’t have to pay me, and it is not a regulated profession, there might be a chance that they would accept me? I will be very grateful if you would kindly share your thoughts around this.
  8. Thanks much loriangel14. Yes I do not intend to do full time nursing. I would mostly be taking "life sciences" in University. However I thought since the starting age for a CNA (Certified Nursing Asst) is 16 in US, it will be the same here, so I thought I may as well use these 2 years to do some meaningful part time job. You cannot legally work in Canada before you are 16. Not even at Mac Donalds or any such job.
  9. joanna73: Nice to know. Good for you. Thanks
  10. Nice to know. Good for you. Thanks
  11. Thank you once again NotReady4PrimeTime. In US the cut off is 16 years. I thought it would be the same here. In this case I will alter my plans then.
  12. Thank you once again. I am in my 10th standard and 15 years old. So if I wait to do my course after I graduate I will be at least 2 years behind my plan. Next year I will be 16 and can legally hold a part time job. So instead of working in part time jobs elsewhere, I thought I might work in an industry where I am planning my long term career. I want to be a doctor. Pediatrician actually. I was told that there is tough competition out there so this is an attempt to prepare myself.
  13. Thank you so much for your valuable input NotReady4PrimeTime and Mewsin. This is the guidance and advise I came looking for when I signed in to this website. Thanks much. The thing is I am in an accelerated academic programme in high school (IB Programme) which in itself is very demanding. To cover another course for a year, seems to be quite a challenge, hence the thought of doing it over summer holidays. That way I would use my summer holidays meaningfully and also get myself a vocational training that will hold me in good stead for furthering my career in the health care. I don’t plan to work full time as I am keen to complete my education first. But then I need some part time job to support myself. I am thinking of maybe working weekends; as weekdays are very tight with my regular high school studies. I sincerely seek your support to figure this out. How do I go about this? Please help me. Thanks once again.
  14. Hi NotReady4PrimeTime, Thanks much for your response. I am a permanent resident of Canada. I am thinking of doing this course from USA because there is is 6-8 weeks vis a vis 6 months to 1 year in Ontario. I am a high school student and would like to do it over my summer holidays of 2015. Please advice. Thanks
  15. Hello all, I would like to work as a nursing assistant / aide in Ontario, Canada. Could you please tell me if a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certified from USA is allowed to work in Ontario, Canada? Please advice. Thanks much already :)
