  1. First of all CONGRATS on making the cut!! As for Detroit’s reputation, I don’t believe there is anything to worry about. It’s not like it used to be. Detroit is being gentrified, so it is pretty chill. Of course you have your bad areas, but the campus is fine. Lots of police and safety measures in place. I had the same concern when I moved here, and it is not an issue. As for school, you will need a lot of study time. I think (in my opinion) you need to be able to focus your time on studying without working. A lot of people do work, but they usually stop in the 3rd semester, they call it “the widow maker” I call it the water board, due to so much you have to do. I’m on facebook, my name is Ion Jarmond, look me up, my pic is a motorcycle on a racetrack. I should be the only one. Anyway, the program is fast paced, DO NOT FALL BEHIND!!! There is no time when you squeeze a 3 year program in 16 months. There are plenty of resources available, and you will do fine. But I will tell you this. You cannot just get buy, you have to have a 75 exam average to pass the class.. doesn’t matter if you have a 95 average, your exams are what count. Hit me up on facebook, if you don’t have one, I’ll give you my cell and we can chat. There are a lot of things that you will need to do that can screw you over. Some people in my class got screwed and it can possibly fail you. So many things to tell you so you can get through the program with no problems. I will tell you this, besides the volume of work, this program has been my best college experience. You will make some great friends. CONGRATS again, and I look forward to chatting with you. take care Ion Jarmond
  2. I am a Hetero/Black male, and out of my whole class, I am the only black male in it. I get that you feel stereotyped, but look at it this way, this is your career, not theirs. People can look, laugh, and comment, but you will laugh all the way to the bank when you are done. Let people live in their little worlds, and judge you how they see fit, because everybody gets sick!!!! everybody will see a nurse at least once in their lives. You are choosing a career that will take you places in your life. As a heterosexual male, I could care less about what someones sexuality is, that is none of my business, not my concern, nor is it my place to judge. and personally I don't care. All I care about is how you treat me and others. Focus on your goals, and don't worry about what other people think, we aren't there yet as a society.
  3. I just received my acceptance letter to Wayne State Universities nursing program, I am excited and scared at the same time. It is a 18 month (BSN) program and I just want to know if anybody has been through it, and what to expect. Which classes drop most people. I have been working hard to get to this point, and I don't want to ruin this opportunity. Thanks in advance.
