  1. Hi, I'm currently in college and planning on completing acc. BSN and PMHNP programs after I get my bachelor's (transferring into a BSN program isn't easy). I live at home right now and could go away to Penn State in the fall. However, I recently applied for a MHT position and it seems like I have a decent shot of getting it (went in today). It would be part time with adults suffering from drug and alcohol problems. My question is, would the mental health tech experience look good enough on an accelerated BSN app/PMHNP school app/job resume, to pass up two years of fun at Penn State? If it's valuable I think I should consider a local school and even save some money by skipping PSU, but I'd like to hesr the opinions of professionals first as this is a big decision for me. Thank you
  2. Mind me asking what school that was?
  3. Hasn't anyone been in a similar situation? Any info helps.
  4. I'm currently a sophomore looking to eventually become a PMHNP. By the end of the spring semester, I'll have completed the prereqs for a BSN program. The problem is most schools have students begin nursing courses in their freshman and sophomore years, so if granted admission I'd have to spend one or two extra years going to school. This would cost quite a bit of money I don't want to spend if avoidable. To avoid the extra cost I've been looking for programs that allow students to begin nursing courses as a junior and finish in two years(four total). I've found some SUNY schools do this, as well as TJU. The NY schools would be around 30 thousand a year since I live in PA and I don't really want to stay in NY if I don't have to. TJU wants to dictate every class students take and I'd be unable to take all the classes they require by next Fall. I'm looking for programs that accept BSN students as juniors, preferably on the Eastern part of the country but any colleges would be nice to know of. I have good grades and a most of the required science courses on my transcript as of now, but not the 4.0 some places are looking for. I'd appreciate any info., thanks.
  5. I could see myself in trauma or pediatrics maybe. If you don't mind me asking, do you feel like you connect with your patients or is it more of an all business relationship?
  6. Hi, I'm currently a sophomore in college and was recently drawn to psych nursing because of my passion for helping the disabled and being able to hold more than just a counseling role. Going by personality tests, I'd perform well in careers like social worker and physical therapist. These are great, but I think I'd get bored after a few years. Being that I'm currently taking classes, time in dwindling down for me to finally decide on a major. Getting a BSN in nursing and eventually becoming an NP seems like it would be a rewarding career and suit my personality. From what I've read, no two days are the same. But it also seems like a good amount of people want to switch specialties after a few years. I don't like talking about myself but it seems the nurses on here always ask younger people why they're interested in nursing. My question for you is, when did you realize psych nursing/nursing in general was right for you? And if you're currently looking to get out of the field, why? Please don't hesitate to be as honest as possible. Thanks
