  1. cli632, I need your advice on their interview and how best I can prepare. Mine is coming up this mo. Would you mind sending me email, please? It's [email protected]. Thank you.
  2. [COLOR=#003366]SRNA1985, I'll appreciate your interview pointers and math assessment. If you could email me to [email protected], it will be awesome! I have one coming up in Jan 2015.
  3. I agree to other people's posts here. If you are serious to get into the program, you want to do whatever it takes. Most of schools really do go by the requirement to select whom to interview/admit, although there might be some exception. So, my suggestion to you is that you review your past academic work especially science courses and re-take the low-graded courses. You will benefit from this as a refresher. I don't know which branch of service you are in. Even for the Army's CRNA program, they have a very similar requirement to civ programs. On the other hand, however, if you are interested in ACNP program, if your GPA is not good, getting a good GRE score could be the only thing you need to do to apply, depending on the school. Good luck, and thanks for your service.
  4. Well, this is just a general advice: You still have time before you get BSN. Don't limit your ICU time only to 2 years. You should be feel fairly comfortable taking care of variety of sick patients with different skills when you apply. In a meanwhile, prepare yourself by re-taking any class you didn't do well and get a decent GRE score. You can of course make a cut as a mediocre or meeting the bare minimum requirement, but you really want to stand out in a candidate pool to be accepted. If you have any school in mind, go visit, ask many questions and have them remember you that you are very eager to try. Last not at least, start shadowing once you start your ICU time. Good luck.
  5. Be familiar with your own ICU practice and how you care your patients. Mine was brief, and right off the butt, I was asked about swan how it is placed (placement path) and what is measured/how you fix its abnormal value ( by what inotrope gtt, etc.) followed by casual questions about yourself. They will tell you if they have any question or concern might affect your competiveness. Good luck.
  6. All, As of today, Ms. Jones mentioned in the previous post said by email they don't have such service to non-Parkland folks.
  7. I heard they have next week to interview more. Good luck.
  8. Thanks again for your advice. I sent email to Ms. Jones yesterday. Not a problem--I've already done total of 14hrs (multiple cases) prior to applying to programs. I want to see more preferably trauma cases. Will see what she'd say.
  9. I am trying to be more cognizant of how I care my patients at my work (CVICU) and why, like choice of meds I use, etc. I'm also re-reading my CCRN book. Other than that, I need to relax myself so that I can clearly present who I am and what I do in preparation of CRNA program within a limited time, say in 10min. Read other posts here that LSU interview is laid back and they may offer you a spot at the interview. Is LSU your primary? Good luck, you'll do well.
  10. lady_stic, Thanks for your sharing. I agree. Afraid to do the same thing as timing of each school seems different. LSU is not my primary for financial reasons but did apply as back-up. Great to hear you got offer from more than 1 school!!
  11. mace8704, So, that shadowing program is (also) for non-Parkland locals? I am interested in. Will contact that nurse educator because I want more shadowing in DFW area (so far 2 was done at level 1 trauma). Thanks for the info!!
  12. Thanks Garrett 1987. I have applied 4 other schools besides LSU and their deadline is somewhere about 1 month later than LSU. This is my very first round on applying for the CRNA program, and I am learning the lesson that there is some school like LSU whose turnaround is very quick. I better to have application deadlines close to one another. We'll see how it goes. Did you turn down LSU right away or waited a little? Thanks again for your advice!
  13. I just wonder how soon LSU will make a decision of acceptance after the interview. I will go up there next week. I read some post that some applicant might get offered a spot at the interview. I just wish I have some time I can think about it if that's the case (although I am not a stellar candidate). The reason is, I have 4 other schools I've applied after LSU that I will not hear whether I will be granted for interview any time soon as their deadline is much later than LSU. LSU is not my primary interest for financial reasons, but I decided to get interviewed in case I don't get one from any other. Thanks for your advice. Hips
