  1. I'm in my first semester of nursing school and the last month has been an emotional roller coaster of if i really want to be a nurse or not. One week I'll hate it and question why I'm here in the first place, then I go to clinical the next day and love it. I keep going back and forth like its a love/ hate relationship. Do any of you fellow nursing students or RNs go through this? Idk what to do
  2. Do you guys do a midterm and final evaluation for the instructors? If you do, id say include something in there about it
  3. I'm fairly new with the hospital, only 8 weeks in my first semester. I had to deal with an incontinent patient today.. And the smell of the room he was in, idk if it was from him making a mess all over his bed or what, but the smell will not get out of my head.. I sprayed myself with perfume, I tried to take a shower thinking that it was just on me from being in there, but it just won't go away.. Is this normal??! How can I make it go away! I'm so grossed out by this point from the smell...
  4. Hi, I'm Jess and I'm currently a freshmen at Conemaugh School of Nursing. I'd say no matter how you did, go ahead and apply. I'm not sure if they would take your hs gpa grades that much into consideration. When I applied I was already out of high school for 3 years and had taken some classes at a community college. After I sent in my application, they had me come in and take a Kaplan entrance exam and depending on how you did on it you would be able to schedule an interview with admissions. Then after the interview I think they go over everyone who's applying and decide who's in and who's not. It's a great school. The instructors and the staff are very friendly and they do a great job making sure everyone's where they need to be. I highly recommend it to anyone. If you do get in, you'll get a list of things you need to do (such as getting financial aide, clearances, physicals, etc) that need to be done before you start in the fall. It may seem very overwhelming m, just make sure you give yourself enough time and you should be fine I hope I was able to help. If you have any other questions let me know, I'm happy to help ?
  5. In my school they start you out with real people from day 1. It's scary at first but it's really not that bad. A lot of people say that the patients absolutely love student nurses because they have more time to be with the patients. Just take it easy it shouldn't be as bad as you think. Good luck :)
  6. Thank you so much for the encouragement. It didn't go nearly as bad as I thought it would. I actually could make out a lot of what he was trying to tell me on clinical day. I took the time to listen to him. I think I was just overly nervous since I'm still new at this nursing stuff and I hadn't had a lot of experiences with pts yet, and when I walked in the other day to meet him for the first time and couldn't understand him, I just panicked.
  7. Met my pt today during pre-assessment, and I couldn't understand a thing he said. I take care of him tomorrow in clinical and I have no idea how I'll be able to do it if I can't communicate effectively with him. What can I do to make it easier?
