  1. We are currently using Angiodynamic Power PICC. We did, at some point, have the problem you are describing of the hub becoming disconnected and/or cracking. We took it back to the manufacturer. They pulled that lot and corrected the problem. Since then we have had no problems with cracking or disconnecting hubs. The current issue we have had is with them is kinking after placement. We continue to use them as they have one of the lowest rates of DVTs on the market.
  2. I am a PICC nurse at a major medical center and am looking to change our policy and procedure regarding the amount of SQ lidocaine used in PICC placements. Right now our policy is 1 ml. I would like to know how much SQ lidocaine other facilities use for PICC placement. If the amount varies from patient to patient, what criteria do you use to decide who gets how much? Thanks!
