This has happened to a staff nurse at my job who did give the notice required. Some managers are just unprofessional. Follow up with HR and brush it off. Good luck in your new position!

I've been an RN for a little over a year now on a surgical unit. Not that I don't love my unit- because I do [most of the time,lol] but I have been looking around at new job opportunities. I've always had an interest in ICU+ PACU nursing. To my surprise, I did get a call back for a Surgical ICU position at a nearby hospital. Now, the interview nerves are starting again. I know the listing said 2 years critical care experience preferred- which I do not have. Could this have been a mistake? I mean, in no way is my resume or application misleading. When I called the woman back to schedule the interview, she seemed so, unorganized. Is it possible she called me by mistake? LOL! Okay I know I sound like a crazy person. I can't imagine there being a shortage of experienced ICU nurses in this area- has anyone been hired to ICU after having similar experience to mine? [this is what happens when you can't sleep and start thinking- sorry for the rant guys :)]

Hi Everyone! This site has been such a good source of information for me through nursing school and the whole NCLEX process so I'm here hoping some of you can offer me some more insight as I start my first job as a RN. I graduated in May with my BSN and passed the NCLEX in July. I just accepted an offer for a new graduate RN position at the hospital where I've been working as a PCT. The unit where I will be working is a surgical unit with an ortho focus but also takes different types of post-op patients (the Nurse Manager referred to this as "surgical overload patients.") I don't start for another month and I want to be as prepared as possible starting my first RN position. Can anyone recommend any books or materials I can read that can help me with some of the common nursing procedures done on this type of unit or any material that can help me as a new graduate in general. Any insight would be extremely helpful. Thanks so much everyone!!!!
