  1. There are hospitals hiring new grads in Las Vegas. The Valley system hires new grads on a regular basis, but you definitely have to get your foot in the door and speak with nurse managers. Also HCA (sunrise, Mt View) has hired a few new grads from my graduating class. Keep your eye out for job fairs, talk to some of your instructors and see if they have any pull (at least to get you in front of a manager) in any hospitals. You probably won't get hired into ICU as I'm sure you know, but hospitals do hire new grads for Med/Surg.
  2. I was just about to post this same question! I'm a new grad and I'm in the process of being hired onto a postpartum unit. I'd love to hear what someone who is experienced in this field would suggest to a new nurse.
  3. Thanks everyone for your replies and insight! A little update... I went to a job fair and was able to speak to a Director of Women's services at a hospital and I have an interview coming up Tuesday for a postpartum position! It looks like my patience may soon be rewarded...
  4. I'm signed up for ACLS... Sorry to be a pain but can you expand on "ect." I'd really like to hear if any other courses/certifications would be useful.
  5. I'm slowly learning that! I'm not in desperate need of a job immediately, which is why I am trying to first focus on finding a job in maternal care before expanding my search if I don't have any luck. Thanks for your input :)
  6. I never thought of volunteering at hospitals as a way to gain employment as a nurse. Something i'll look into for sure. I'm a volunteer for red cross, I didn't know they did L&D related work?
  7. I graduated from an ADN program this summer, and I've been looking for a job in acute maternal care. I've applied everywhere for postpartum, l&d, nursery and I'm turned down with no explanation... Any ideas on what I can do at this point? I'm NRP certified, anything else that will make me stand out? I was hoping to at least get an interview somewhere! Very discouraging
