I know all areas of nursing have sick patients or patients who can get sick at any time. but what areas of nursing would you be in with the last amount of vomit?

Which do you prefer to give/ take and what do you think work better? From people I've talked to it seems zofran is either a hit or miss with nausea especially once theyes are actively vomiting. But phenergan always seems to work quite well despite having more side effects like sedation and what not. What do you think?

I already have a degree and want to get into nursing or some allied health field. If I were to go back and get my associates in my chosen allied health field (since I cannot commit to an accelerated program right away, would this look bad? I feel like people will judge and thinks its stupid and make my bachelors look like a waste. Is it a waste or is it just "adding to my current education" since I'm picking up a new vocation?

I know this is a nursing board, but as healthcare professionals you all have exposure to these different fields. What are the pros and cons of these different field. which if you had to do it over would you go into or recommend going in to?

When you were in nursing school were there any areas of nursing that you knew ahead of time that you did NOT want to get into. And did you have you mind set on one area? What were those areas?

I have no problem with any other bodily fluids (not to say they are not gross and I might not get a bit squeamish) but I can handle them for the most part with no problem. If there is one thing however that I cannot seem to deal with and have a tough time with is vomit. Its beyond just a general dislike like I am sure most people have when they see it, its more like a phobia. I am always so afraid that if someone is throwing up is infectious and if I am near them or have to clean it that I am automatically going to catch it, get sick and start throwing up as well. I would hate to have that hold me back though as that is really THE ONLY drawback I have. Have any of you had this fear and how do you deal with it or how did you get over it? any insight would be great!

The question was not if I should do it or not, it was how do they expect people to pay for expenses

I'm sorry if I sound irritated, but all of these nursing programs state that you cannot work more than 20 hours a week while you are in the program. How the heck do they expect grown adults and families with kids and bills to work that little?! why don't they have part time programs for this purpose? In know some people say they worked fulltime through the program and passed and so could you but the truth be told I CANT. I am not one of those people where school comes easy and need to devote all of my time to school. and unfortunately unlike some other I am a single person who lives alone and does not have a spouse to rely on. So my question is how did some of you manage?

Have any of had to do this for nursing school? how did you manage work and school? All these schools say that you are unable to work full time while attending the programs, well how do they expect people especially with all the career changers now a days to support themselves?

What age** If you were a career changer what did you do before?

has anybody made this switch? what was it like? What do you like better about nursing than teaching?

How many careers did you have before becoming a nurse? What careers were they and what drew you to nursing?

What can an RT do that a nurse can't? Can a nurse do the job of an RT or would they need to be certified?

it seems as if social work is a dying field these day and that many of the medical social work jobs are being taken over by nurses now-a-days. Is that an accurate observation or is it just me.

here's the thing. I like medical/ health and I also like social work and mental health so I figured I would combine the two and maybe go into psych nursing. I was thinking of getting a masters in medical social work but I heard that that is pretty much a dying field because all the social work jobs in the hospitals are now being replaced by nurses in many cases. I have a good understanding of what each job entails it is just a matter of deciding on one. So what do you think, should I pursue mental health nursing over social work?

I was told that a person in an RN program who fails out after their second year can challenge the LPN boards to become an LPN. Is that true?

If my ultimate goal is to work in mental health which one would you recommend?

do you think that all LPN programs should become an associates degree rather than a technical one and RN's should all become a Bachelors minimum? I've heard people say its ridiculous that nurses are educated on three different levels (ie, technical, associates and bachelors).

Sorry for all the posts I'm just so confused. This is just like a constant internal debate. I really want to get into mental health but I am not sure if I should go the psych nurse route or MSW (medical social work) route. Which is better? Is it realistic for me to want to get into nursing with the sole intention of wanting to do psych nursing? (I know I would have to do floor nursing for a while in the beginning but the only specialty area that interests me a lot is psych). What are your opinions?

Aside from the obvious big pay differences, what is the difference between case management or mental health nursing vs mental health social work? I want to go into mental health and not sure what route to go. Everyone suggests psychiatric nursing due to better pay and more options.
