My second question is: I work at New York Presby (big hospital in NYC) and I know first hand that they no longer want nurses with an associates, what should I do? I already chose my clases for thr fall and am set to go but I can change it to something that will satisfy a four year college. Any one here done this before? OR I can stick to it and do a RN to BS right after.

Hello all. I just started going to college for the first time to pursue my dreams of becoming a nurse. All week I have been to checking the website to see what I got, I manage to study hard and get A,s on all of my prereqs except in Eng 101, I got a B. When i spoke to my advisor he said I need to have all As in order to get in the program at BMCC. I am pretty upset and I thought I was doing well. I kept getting As on the papers maybe a B or 2 What should I do now? To be honest I didn't want an Associates but a Bachelors because that is what all hospitals are taking. Should I continue at Bmcc? I really like the school btw. If advised to go 4 year, what classes should I take moving forward? Thank You

Thanks! he actually does go by the syllabus. I asked for a review sheet for the midtem since i got one from everyother teacher and he said he's totally against them and that is why we have texts books. Very contradicting :/ I stick it out, keep doing what ive been doing and not withdraw i just hope this is not the reason why i dont make it in to the program. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the reply, I did call and they said I can drop it with a W. But like you said it's mid semester why should I? So far I have an A+ in math, A in Eng (i don't like the teacher but she sure can teach!) and an A in Speech. I am not alone when it comes to Psych, a few of us have approached him and he just says things like: I am not your babysitter, what study guide? This isn't high school come to class and goto tutoring. I did call him out on something he was teaching that was completely different in the book and he got upset saying the book is wrong and not him. The midterm was not written by him so you can imagine my face when those questions came up. For exra credit we have to do 5 hour tutoring, i am on my tenth hour. Psych is the class i was mostly excited about because it actually made me feel like i was learning something to do with my future career. I don't mind an accelerated class, I'm all books. I even listen to class while i am jogging. I am very focused and dedicated. He talks about how much he hates his ex wife more than the actual subject.

I called to see if I can get some advisement but they are in workshops for a week or so. I don't mind dropping the class, losing my money and retaking it in the winter. if there it wont affect my grade.

Hello everyone, This is my first time in school with hopes and dreams of becoming a nurse. I am doing great in my pre reqs except for Psychology 100. I hate to blame the teach but He normally sends us home to study the chapter which is fine but when he teaches is class he says things completely different. I would ask him and he says what he teaches its what goes. Anyway I took the midterm and felt completely lost, he did not write the midterm so over 20 questions where on things that were not taught in class. If I don't make any sense its because I am freaking out. I know I will not get an A in this class.

Today I finally walked in to college for the first time (30 yr old). I applied and took the placement test. Not sure how I did on the math but it's been a while. I will be working part time to try and go to school full-time. For those of you who went to BMCC and started as [COLOR=#000000]an Undeclared Health major (UDH), what classes would i take in spring? are they the Pre-Reqs: ENG 101 PSY 100 MAT 104 or will there be some classes I have to take that I am not aware of? Can I walk in and start as a UDH or not? I can def wait till the weekend is over to ask these questions but if anyone can help me out now I would rather know from experience. thanks [/COLOR]

Thanks everyone i am pretty inspired, I applied to a group of NY Unis at once and am visiting a counselor on monday with my finished application. Most of the schools have ADN only and maybe one has BSN. They all say you have to go in as UDH (Undeclared health Major) then work my way into the program. One question for you guys who have started at a CC and then transferred to a 4 year, it would have to be a school that accepts your previous school's pre reqs in order to apply to the new schools program?

Defnitely, i just want all the info. I ended up investing/co opening a business (subway restaurant) which is going very well but goes to show i will never be happy untill my dream of becoming a nurse is fulfilled. But you can't imagine the run arounds i get at all these schools here in NYC it really is a downer. They make it so hard if you're not coming out of high school but i am only speaking of New York City area CC, very reputable schools like NYU, Columbia and Pace wich are all extremely close to my home have great info but neither would look at me.

thank you. So just to make sure i went to a counselor not too long ago at a CC that has a horrible rep but has an amzing nursing program. The counselor said I would need to choose Liberal arts anywhere i go. Sounds correct?

Thanks guys, no I don't mean dorming lol i would even want to avoid taking classes with the young ones if possible. I mean corse wise. It seems like all i keep getting offered are these adult programs that barely count. I will def speak to a counselor this week. What major did most of you guys choose as freshmen?

I want to know what the process is for a traditional student to become a nurse. So out of High School the student goes in to a college with a nursing program, what major do they pick? how long does it last if everything is done correctly? do they go straight in to a nursing program from high school and it takes 4 years to become a licensed nurse? assuming he or she is going for his bachelors full time. Or do you goto college for a while and then scream to all your friends "i got into the nursing program!" and from there is now 4 years. is it? Sorry I have no knowledge NOW How does all that^ differ from me, a 30 year old with his GED who has never been to college? is it possible to follow the same process? i notice most schools only have options for adults who want to continue meaning hotel management and tourism and health coding etc. Does it exist? is there a college for adults who want to feel traditional because they couldn't 10, 20 and 30 years ago? sorry a bit confused! thanks!

So this is what I found on the NYU Paul Mcghee Division. I am not sure if this route would help me. The Pauk Mcghee Division seems to be for adults only and offer mostly hotel and tourism management etc but they also have A.A in Liberal Arts and a B.A in applied general studies. Here the curriculumn on Liberal arts Curriculum or should I just stick to a CC. Thanks

That is such great advise, thank you so much. I am so scared of going back mainly the thought of me sitting down studying for hours after work and school. But my passion is so much stronger than that! I was accepted to the adult program at NYU to be honest many people do. They have liberal arts. Its called the paul Mcghee division anyone know anything about that? maybe a little google search of their curriculum. thanks again I feel so much hope now.
