Rexjackiec, I tried all this yesterday and the code did not work, but I do see it today. Before, the search upon entering the ID just returned nothing. Thanks, LW

Oh ok, so you are in a different class. Do you have to use the ATI testing website for your class? I am not able to find any of the learning material for my Pharm class. I am able to log into the website, but just don't see anything at all pertaining to our college classes. Thanks, LW

Yes, I was told as you said... that ultimately I will need all of the books in the box so I will keep them. I tried to purchase my Patho text today but they are of course sold out. With our first quiz due Thursday, I am kicking myself. Thanks for your help, Rexjackiec! Were you in class Monday? Did you see me in there? If you did, give me a shout next time! I am the... well mature dude with a goatee. Regards, LW

So are you guys doing reading or anything before the first class? I have been doing the pharmacology assignments. I am still working on dosage calculations at the moment... and working to memorize the conversions. Regards, LW

Wow, are you serious?! That will surely put me over the $GRAND mark. But, if I still need the other books later on then I suppose it isn't all too bad. I just feel ill prepared to walk into class on Monday without my Patho text. Thanks for your help, Rexjackiec! LW

Wow. So our information packet that says "for our convenience... blah blah single box... blah" is for traditional only. So now I have to go Monday and return this box and hope that I can find the books that I need... excellent. Worse, I cannot find my receipt so maybe they will stick me with the $900 bill to boot.

Ok, I don't understand. I was sold the "packaged box" that is supposed to have all the textbooks I need and yet there is NO PATHOPHYSIOLOGY BOOK!? (sigh) Man, this is frustrating. I cannot even resolve this until Monday- the first class day. I should have checked this earlier. Regards, LW

Hey guys, be sure to log into Blackboard and start preparing for the first day of class. Path requires work prior to first day of class!

I am currently reviewing the syllabus for the three classes now. I am thinking maybe we should read the first chapters at least for day1?

But navynorange1234, We do not have clinicals until the second semester starting in May so I do not understand why we would need the box exactly. Regards, LW
-
UT Tyler nursing spring
I went ahead and bought the box. I wanted to make sure I have everything that I need... but yeah the cost is insane! Maybe, I will consider alternatives for the next semester. Regards, LW

lmkea71, No I do not think so because clinicals don't start until May. I have everything except my 3rd Hep B shot.... well and maybe my nerves! I look forward to meeting everyone next Monday! Regards, LW

Opinion: Do bad TEAS scores = Bad nursing students?
As for the TEAS itself and what it represents... well I think overall that the test is pretty basic. So if one cannot study for it and do well on the test, then it is likely that the person would really struggle in nursing school because the material in nursing school goes beyond just basics. Being proficient at study and learning is key for success in the school and I think the TEAS is probably a decent indicator. I am not saying that scoring poorly predicts a poor nurse either. Some people express that they are not good test-takers... well there will be an abundance of tests in nursing school. Some claim that they are not good at math. Well, nursing school does require some basic math... so logically a student that struggles in math will struggle with say... dosage calculations or conversions. For most people that score poorly on the TEAS, my guess is that it was for lack of preparation. Many think that they are prepared simply because they score well on the practice tests- often after having taken them repeatedly. This is not how one should prepare for a test! Regards, LW

Opinion: Do bad TEAS scores = Bad nursing students?
In my opinion, how many years since you graduated HS has little to do with it. I graduated in 1991, and scored well on the TEAS V exam. Granted, we more seasoned people more likely have more need for preparation and study for the exam compared to fresh HS graduates, but it stops there. To go into an exam with the thought that you are incapable of performing well on the exam based soley on your age simply sets you up to accept a poor score. The reality is that you can overprepare and beat the national average by a long shot. To make my point, imagine if you studied 24/7 for a year for this test... do you really think that you would not score well simply because you graduated HS long ago? Of course not! There are of course other factors of course, but in my opinion age or how long one has been out of school is the least relevant. Preparation and diligent study is the number one issue. Regards, LW

I plan to submit my blue card/copy at the school when it reopens on Dec. 30th. I have not received any replies by email for weeks.

For those still waiting on their blue cards, I called the TX BON and was told that mine was sent out November 14th. I still do not have it so either it was misplaced or lost in the mail somewhere. The BON will send out a new one but they are required to wait 30 days so mine will be sent again this coming Monday. Regards, LW

Retaking the TEAS
Great advice here guys... I have posted here before that there are many shortcuts that can be applied for the math section. If you struggle with completing the math in the time permitted then you are missing some key math concepts. Regards, LW

I emailed the college on Monday and have received no response. I asked whether I need to do a follow-up call or something to check status.

How many of you are still waiting for your blue card? I got my fingerprinting done l think around late October so I figured that I would have mine by now. I'd like to take a "head-count"? Thanks, LW

One week? Wow! I was told that it could take a month or more, so I assumed that this is normal. Anyone else still waiting on theirs? LW

UT Tyler nursing spring
Awesome, lmkea71! Well, I just need to pick up my scrubs from CR Scrubs and have the patches sowed on. And, I guess I need to figure out what to do about the books. And... I am still waiting on my blue card. Regards, LW

lmkea71, Well, in that case you really should check with the advisor because you don't want to risk removal from the program later on. You have come too far! Regards, LW
