You cant be fashionable for nursing.
When I was in Nursing school( 1994-1996), we had to have our hair above our shoulders, no long or painted nails. As for earrings, they could only be microscopic studs, no danglies at all. Trust me , one of my instructors made one of my fellow classmates remove her studs because they were too big. At the time I thought it was a pain. I have thick hair and then it was half way down my back. I had to put it up and by 9 in the morning I had a raging headache. Now my hair is above my shoulders ...no more headaches. I have to say that when I see some of the nursing students now it is a bit shocking, they don't look as professional. Believe it or not, now I rarely have my nails painted. After washing you r hands as much as you have to during the course of the day, it doesn't last trust me.

Using the citrix server
My hospital has installed citrix. We will be using this as the platform for accessing McKesson's Paragon applications. Anyone using citrix to access their applications? What sort of security measures do you have in place with regards to allowing physicians off campus access to your system? We are trying to figure out a way to allow our physicians to access our system but have security concerns. Anyone using site keys? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I hate nursing
It's sad to hear that you hate everyting nursing. But I'd be lying if I said those thougths never ran through my mind at one time or another. I had'nt found my niche yet. I finally found it with nursing informatics. I have to agree with the others that said there are many specialties a nurse can go into. This is what separates nursing from many other careers. That being said, life is to short to spend it miserable. If you truly can't see yourself in some specialty of nursing, perhaps it is time to move on. If we spend our lives worrying about what everyone else thinks, our lives would be wasted. Just my

New to Nursing Informatics
I just recently started as a nurse informatics specialist at the hospital I've been working at for the last 3 years. I've been a nurse for 12 years with ICU, PACU, telemetry, and case management experience. I've always had a love of computers ever since my Commodore 64 when I was in junior high. I feel like finally after 12 years of nursing, I found my niche. I've already put together presentations for the medical staff. Now I am at the beginning stages of transferring our paper forms to computer. I have to say , maybe I'm crazy, but this is the first nursing job I've had that makes me happy. That being said, I will also be the facility HIPAA privacy officer. My director woould like me to take an onkine training course if available. Does anyone have any recommendations for reliable online HIPAA courses? Thanks:wink2:
