  1. These are the ones I recommended. I saw them priced at $80 a piece on a website and I am sure at a greater volume they would get a better rate. But I was shot down...they said the elevators are not big enough to accommodate....I accompanied some transporters and proved that it is doable even with an ORTHO bed with traction...how do I gain acceptance to do what is right when there is such resistance?
  2. Hello all, What communication tools are used in your OR and how effective? Looking to hear about hand free technologies that are convenient, affordable and user friendly. Currently utilizing VOCERA, but still a lot of kinks to work out and it is EXPENSIVE. We also utilize two phones in each room ( for Circulator and Nurse Anesthetist), beepers (especially for residents and fellows),walkie talkies , ASCOM phones, all leadership accessible by IPhone or Blackberry, some surgeons provide there cell #'s and have the nurses text them, each OR has an intercom to the front desk...and as always the good ole faithful overhead page system.
  3. New to the forum...Which forum would you recommend, and how do I move the topic? Thanks for your feedback.
  4. Please feel free to PM me if you would like to remain anonymous. My new facility does not have an established policy and procedure in place that they follow. There is no consistency in how TC's are carried out, and all rooms are not being TC'ed daily!!!Resources are limited, and change is desperately and urgently needed. Have already highlighted AORN P&P and Alexanders but meeting lots of resistance ...getting the ole..."this is the way we have always done it tune" I do feel like I am hitting my head against a brick wall:banghead:. Any suggestions on how to encourage change that is needed to make us follow AORN Guidelines? Or should I just cut my losses and move on? There are some wonderful people working here just the culture for process improvement is needing a boost.
  5. Hello all, In the process of working on putting together an extensive Terminal Cleaning policy and procedure manual for training of Operating Room Assistant staff. I need your help. Can you provide suggestions, as well as policy ideas/examples from your facilities, and references?
  6. Hello all, What policy does your facility have that covers REPS in the OR? Also looking for ideas for making them more easily identifiable/visible in a busy OR. I recommended RED disposable hair bouffants (as opposed to the green and blue ones worn by staff), but my idea was shot down. Any other suggestions?
  7. Hello all, I am interested in obtaining my MSN/MBA within the next 5 years. I am wanting feedback from those who have completed and/or are currently enrolled in the UT Tyler MSN/MBA program. Anything you can tell me from the standpoint of someone doing the program is greatly appreciated. Pros and Cons, was is worth the investment? How user friendly is the program, what platform do they use (EPIC or Blackboard etc...) How were the professors? Is it doable while working full-time? Hidden or unexpected expenses that have arisen? Any info you can give from a first hand perspective is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. Hello All, Desperately looking for Operating Room or Hospital policies that cover Oxygen Tank Transportation. So far I have found the relevant AORN Standard and Recommended Practice in the 2013 Edition : Page 227 Recommendation VI.b. to VI.c. RP Safe Environment of Care "Medical gas cylinders should be transported in a carrier that is designed to prevent cylinders from tipping or being dropped or damaged." My new facility is currently transporting O2 tanks in the bed with the patients ( and this has apparently always been their practice), and I am having no success in convincing them of how dangerous this practice is and why we need to follow the AORN guideline on this dangerous practice.
  9. Just wanted to followup...Are you still working in the Operating Room at Methodist at TMC? What has your experience been like there, and has it met all your expectations in your first year as an RN?
