Tax time and questions
I'm in process of doing my taxes for last year. I started traveling last year in July and I haven't taken a break since I started. I work as a traveler Hospice RN. I was told last year by a fellow traveler to save all my receipts. I.E gas, groceries, meals. But I'm confused since I get a stipend why should I save my receipts? Especially the fuel receipts as I get paid .56 cents a mile when using my vehicle to go to patient to patient homes. At any rate I did save all my receipts at his recommendation and I went to a tax person and he told me that he is going to research the stipend but he is nearly sure I can't itemize these receipts. But I can use receipts for a nursing bag, stethoscope scrubs etc. Whatever the job requires me to use for the job. My second question is this. I just extended my contract again with the same place. This new contract starts at the end of April and runs until the end of July. I know that the IRS considers a traveler not being a traveler if they work travel nursing for a year. The traveler is considered permanent if they work as a traveler for one straight year. I will be 4 days over the one year mark in July when the new contract ends. Is there a grace period of days after one year or is it exact? thanks in advance

Core Medical
I work for CORE and I'm in the California Bay area. I work with a Hospice agency and have been on the same job since last year in July. My recruiter is wonderful and I have had her since day one. I think it depends on your relationship with your recruiter as that's real important that there is a good comfort zone for you. I talk to her maybe once a month. She has mentioned to me several times that I'm not high maintenance Nurse and don't call her with complaints or gripes about the job site.

Thanks Ned. I will take your advice. I read in my contract with Core that I'm not allowed to work for another travel company for a year after my departure with Core. I don't know how binding that is but I do understand the logic in your advice.

Adventure Starts
I'm excited, nervous and curious. I have been a Nurse since 1996 and have taken the dive into travel nursing. I have over 15 years working in Home Health and Hospice case managing. I start my first assignment in a couple of weeks in San Francisco East Bay area. I'm staying in the field of Hospice and the Hospice agency has been around for a long time and is a not for profit agency. I choose Core medical for my travel company as a fellow friend worked for them for 2 years and gave them very positive reviews. My Recruiter is wonderful and has been very helpful since day one of communication. I am very familiar with the bay area and central California. I know the bay area is very expensive and the housing department from Core Medical suggested staying at an Extended Stay but I have looked on Airbnb and Craigslist and I have found some connections for studios or 1 bedroom apartments that cost the same as an Extended Stay. I love my privacy and quiet so I hope I'm making the right choice of going with a studio as opposed to an Extended Stay. I think it's a no brainer but being a first time traveler I have butterflies in my stomach and I'm second guessing myself a lot which is abnormal for me. Any input or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!
