  1. I'm finishing up my first year of med-surg on a renal floor at a downtown hospital and I'm looking into other areas of nursing. The options I have considered are private duty nursing or school nursing. Where did you go after med-surg? Do you have any experience in PDN or school nursing? Thanks!
  2. Hi! I am applying for a private duty nursing position here in Texas and I was hoping someone would share their experiences and an example of how a day could be as a private duty nurse. The HH that I am applying to offer PDN to pediatrics as well as geriatrics so I could do either. The agency also offers a position to be a home health nurse with visits, etc. HH is very new to me coming from a renal/med surg floor at a busy downtown hospital. I really need the 8-5 schedule to gain my sanity back from working night shift for the past 10 months. Thanks for the feedback :)
  3. How is everyone doing on their first job as an RN? Where is everyone working? Tell us the good, the bad, and the ugly. Those who are having a great time, let us know where the best place is to work :) Thanks, Burned out night shift renal floor RN with 10 months of experience
  4. I'm a brand new nurse with 10 months experience on a difficult renal floor at a downtown hospital and I am running on fumes as far as my tolerance to 7 high acuity patients on night shift. Can anyone offer any advice on a career outside of the hospital - Home Health, Private Duty Nursing, the mall (lol)? There is a Starbuck's on the corner of my hospital and I seriously think how amazing my life would be if I just worked there...oh gosh! My fresh eyes and desire to be perfect just do not mix well with the nurse to patient ratio and all the shortcuts taken at that hospital.
