Its been going great so far, I've just finished Vocational Adjustment with an 87% as my overall average and now were moving on to Nutrition. I have had A LOT of big exams and its been a bit stressful but I'm just taking it day by day. As far as tips go, don't be absent like EVER! You don't realize how much material your missing out on by missing one day of class. I recommend cutting down on hours at work if possible, your going to need a lot of time to study. Make sure you never ever fall behind on your assignments and reading your chapters (that's a big one)in class we cover a lot of material and we do it fast so make sure your keeping up. I find that making flash cards of important terminology the night before an exam is incredibly helpful. Hope this helps and good luck to you!

My job also told me i have to be able to give them at least 20 hours as well, i dont know how flexible your job is with hours, but If you can try to stay at your current job then stay I feel like taking on a new job in a new environment is going to add to your stress level and that's the last thing you need. just give them their 20 hours but no more. I told my job that I will not be available to work Monday - Thursday so that way I can concentrate on my schooling and nothing else. I plan to work after class on Friday 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM, I'm giving them 8 hours Saturday and 8 hours Sunday but that's it. If the issue is that your job isn't flexible with hours look into a part time position in retail. I currently work in retail and my job is awesome with giving me days off when I need off and accommodating my availability. Hope this helped !

So just an update, I have finally decided on a work schedule that's hopefully going to work for me, I'm not going to work Monday-Thursday so that way I have plenty of time to study. I am going to work a 4 hour shift on Fridays after class, an 8 hour shift Saturday and an 8 hour shift Sunday. Hope I made the right decision! Good luck to you all!

Sorry It took me so long to post an update about the uniforms, but I called the school and the woman said that apparently we will be fitted for the uniforms while we are attending school.

Not yet, I'm going to call the school on Monday to set that up. How about you?

Thanks so much for your responses, I'm thinking I'm going to work two days during the week 3:30-7:30 pm and an 8 hour shift on sundays. Maybe I'll work another day during the week but I'll see how it goes. Thanks again!

In Long Island, NY yes this is true, LPN positions are nonexistent in hospitals but there are tons of positions available in nursing homes, clinics, doctors offices etc. So if your goal is to work as an LPN in a hospital unfortunately you may not have any luck with that. But rest assured that LPNs are needed in other facilities. Hope this helped.

I've just enrolled as a full time LPN student (Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-2:30 PM) at Eastern Suffolk BOCES, expected starting day is September 5th 2014. Just curious to know from some of you that are current LPN students or LPN graduates, typically how many hours a day do you find yourself studying and doing homework after class? I need to change my availability at work to accommodate my schooling, and school is a number 1 priority so being super part-time is fine with me. should I avoid working on school days and just work weekends?

I just enrolled for September 2014 in the Long Island NY area, tuition is $13,924 not including books and uniforms.

So I'm excited to finally say I'm officially a registered full time student at Eastern Suffolk BOCES located in Long Island, NY. Class is scheduled to start this September, classes are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM for 11 months. I've been told time and time again this program is intense, my question for all of you who are currently in an LPN program or have graduated from an LPN program is how many hours did you work per week? Was it too overwhelming to work on school days? I currently work part time and I have to change my availability to accommodate my schooling, just not sure if I'm going to work only on the weekends and leave week days for studying? I have no children so I don't have any huge financial responsibility right now. So what kind of a work schedule would you recommend? If your a new student like me please feel free to comment what your plan is going to be, I'd love to hear everyone's opinions. Thanks

Congrats! I also had orientation July 1st for the full time day program, quick question for you though.. at orientation I remember Mrs. Stevens saying that we have to buy a specific book/books from that ritten house website but we are aloud to purchase the other books from amazon.. I was up getting my picture taken when she was talking about it so I don't know which books she was talking about. Any idea?

Congrats on making it to the interview! I was totally nervous about my interview too but honestly there is nothing to worry about, they ask you basic ethical questions about yourself. Don't worry they don't interrogate you at the interview. Just be professional, and most importantly just be you. Make sure you dress and look neat and that's really it. There is no essay, but there is a small writing segment that is given to you when you arrive for your interview. It was very simple don't stress, your going to do fine!

No need to freak out, I recently took my entrance exam with ES BOCES and there is NO science, just reading and math and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it actually was. I got a call from the school the next day and found out I did very well on the exam and they wanted to set up an interview that same week, it all happened so fast but I couldn't be happier. Hope you did well on your exam too!
