  1. You've got to have the HEART for people, really. In trauma you're going to take care of patients who aren't themselves most of the time. Think of a combination of patients from neuro, psych, LTAC, rehab and nursing home rolled into one. They're either in pain, confused, feeling hopeless, sad or are really just tired emotionally, physically and psychologically. It takes a WHOLE LOT OF GUTS to be working on a Trauma floor. Perhaps, the one thing that REALLY matters is PATIENCE & COMPASSION. Without these, you won't last. You'll get to take care of "very difficult" patients who are simply people who NEED your help for just about everything. :)
  2. Oh goodness, this was a therapy I just could NOT find the guts to perform. Those leeches are just solo wriggly! Eeeek! But yes, leech therapy is usually ordered for reattachment patients -- think flaps on the face or totally severed ear. They start out teeny weeny and then they suck and suck and triple or quadruple their size and fall off. And yes, the fun part is looking for them after they dropped off. I had to always call somebody else to help me with this. I just COULD NOT... COULD NOT... COULD NOT!!! LOL
  3. Hey everyone! I just wanted to see if there's anyone else here interested in Integrative Health. I've been a nurse for more than 10 years and I'm currently enrolled in an Integrative Nutrition Coaching program. I have to say this has been the MOST rewarding journey for me as a nurse, and I have not felt more "equipped" to really care for the whole person until this course. Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching is a truly wonderful program and I believe nurses become better caregivers with the knowledge we get through integrative nutrition. In case y'all want to know more, here's a link to some information: http://www.integrativenutrition.com/iinbook?erefer=0015000000q19DTAAY
