Starting school at older age! :(
At 18 failed algebra 3 times and quit college. After 2 careers (shoe design and shop owner). Started ADN at 41. Graduated in May 2016 at 43. Moving on with BSN. I feel you on the math. I restarted college at age 35 with non degree basic math and didn't stop until statistics. I graduated with an AA in sociology 2 years later. I did fail math again 20 years later but I didn't give up. You can do it!

2014 Fall cohort El Camino/Compton students
Hi AnewdawnLVN2015, Clinicals are based on what the hospital or clinical site is offering. I had clinicals starting at 2pm last semester. This semester I have clinical from 6.45am to 6.45pm. Also, a switch to your schedule can happen the night before. Having the school email exchange on my phone is critical. So you really have to be flexible. Edit: Your classes in the program depend on when you start. Fall or Spring. Classes are built around clinical and you are assigned your section numbers. When you go to the required nursing information meeting,(doesn't matter what campus) you can ask questions there. Goodluck!

Officially a second semester student nurse
Hi NS Bubbly26, The weed out semester is every semester on my campus. It's frustrating but I'm rolling with it. I have an exam on 18 chapters and 10 meds the first week of class... I just received my mental health book today. A fun trick my campus likes to play is to wait until the day before class begins to send out the syllabus. This time I'm ready to rock and roll (literally) lol.

Officially a second semester student nurse
Hi DorkyPanda, Congratulations on your acceptance! I only had 1 class first semester, split into 2 eight week sessions. I took pharm and life span psych and had it substitute waived as my ADN program only offers 1 or 2 units. As I plan to get my Bsn, the college I'm going to requires a 3 unit class for Pharm and Lifespan. My nursing kit included a stethoscope and was required the first day of lab. First half of the semester was a bit rough. I missed a B by 10th of a point. The second half I made a solid B. I learned how to study for nursing, I used the Mary Hogan rationale books (The pre and post questions helped me a lot!) and I made sure to read the chapters before class, so all I had to do was highlight what the instructor lectured on and focused on that. Good luck! You will soon be a student nurse and before you know it, an RN :)

I forgot to add the structure. They give you a folder for each subject. Each folder contains what you need for the day. I believe it they have changed the order in which they teach the subjects but it's English, Reading, Math, Science, It's a rapid pace. Each day was 8hrs of instruction. 1 hour break. The last day was review and the test if you signed up for it. I took the test after review and did well. Good luck!

Hello :) The 499 did NOT include the TeasV test. In fact I didn't know I had to book the test and was fortunate in that they were able to open up a test date. Otherwise I would have had to wait 2 weeks to take the test. It turned out that when I took the TeasV in April 2013 ATI was piloting the TeasV and it was harder! ATI has now honed the test in. Bring food they have a frig and go for a walk around the block or take a rest during your break. Each professor has taken the test even though there are several versions. They don't mess around. Do the homework they assign, it was brutal I studied for hours each day and I passed. Practice your math, read the heck out of the ATI book. The difference in taking the test was they taught you how and why. My friend did the course over 4 weekends and she liked that better. She scored an 80! Good luck! Please let me know how it goes :)

I failed the TeasV after much studying. I had the McGraw Hill and ATI books with online tests. The course I took was an intensive 1 week course by ACLS 123 critical care training center. The cost was 499 not including the ATI book or TeasV test fee. So you are looking at 700 bucks. My original score was 57.3 and meant I was out and had to reapply next year. My school only allows 2 tries for TeasV and thats it. I remediated and took a plato teas program, test taking strategies, and a refresh on spelling, grammar, and punctuation courses. I took a week off work and took the ACLS course I passed with an 83.3! I reapplied in February and received my letter of contingent acceptance 1 week ago. The course was brutal but I felt prepared for what nursing school was going to be like. Each day was broken up into sections and taugt by a professor with a phd or masters who had taken the test. Had I heard of Adkins Academy I would have done that first. I now realize I cannot skimp on any part of nursing education as I borrowed the money and will not hesitate to do so for the Kaplan NCLEX when I graduate. Passing the TeasV was not easy and the course laser focused on what I needed to study. Goodluck! Please post and give an update I would love to hear how it worked out. ~Fall 2014 cohort El Camino Compton~ Woot Woot!!
