Hi you guys! I just landed a job at my aunt's hospital in a RN new grad Residency program in the definitive observation unit. I am excited but very scared as well. I'm excited to start my career, but very scared for being responsible and accountable for patients. Are there any tips you guys can provide for a new graduate registered nurse? How did you guys feel when you landed a new grad position? I start a week from tomorrow! Also, I was wondering if I should go on a mini vacation this week before I start.

Hi you guys, Like many new grads, I'm here searching for a new graduate position. I graduated in May 2014, and I took my NCLEX in July and passed. I'm eager to get back into the hospital, but even getting an interview to a hospital is extremely difficult. I really wanted to use this time to vent my feelings because of what happened just within the past few days. I wanted to know your honest feelings, advice, and support. I have been feeling sad this past few days because I have went on about three interviews: the first, I totally bombed and I knew it, second and third I felt more confident but I did not land the job. When I saw a new graduate RN program open up at my mom's hospital, where she is the charge nurse of one of the ICUs, which by the way is my dream job, I decided to apply. This hospital was where I first volunteered at for a year on the ICU, DOU, and telemetry, and it really gave me the inspiration to start nursing as a career. Once I got an interview, I practiced for hours, and I interviewed with the ICU manager, director, and educator. I honestly felt very confident after the interview, and the director and educator went up to my mom that night and said that I did very well in the interview, but the decision is up to the manager. The ICU manager and my mom had a big conflict in the past when they were both staff nurses. My mom told me they were both competing for the manager position, which resulted in a conflict. The educator and director even called me and said they will try to persuade the manager into hiring me into one of the five positions in a unit different than my mom's. After they spoke to the manager, both told me that the manager said, " I never considered hiring him before I saw him." I would like to think that my mom and the manager's conflict affected the manager's decision. I'm honestly upset after looking for days for a perfect position. This was the hospital that inspired me to get into nursing, and it has multiple ICUs, which has attracted me even more. I haven't heard from many hospitals, but getting rejected by this one takes the most toll on my heart. What are your guys' thoughts about this? Is there any advice or words of encouragement you can give me? I'm honestly getting tired of the job search.

Has anyone heard from Thornton ICU? My application says referred to hiring manager about two weeks ago but my status still hasn't changed.

Hi again you guys, So I take my test on Monday, and these are my scores from Kaplan Question Trainer# 5: 64 6: 66 7: 70 I also took the NCLEX sample tests provided by Kaplan on the Question Bank: 1: 52 2: 62 3: 77 4: 30 4 was the SATA one! That was a killer! The nerves has also just hit me today. Any tips before going in?

Thanks! I know I need to practice more but studying is very frustrating to me! I just need to figure out exactly how to use the decision tree to get the correct answers

Hi, I take my NCLEX about a month from now and I am worried about my Kaplan scores. I have taken question trainers 1-4 and they have been going down, so I am getting scared. My readiness test score is a 57. My question trainers scores: 1. 63 2. 74 3. 54 4. 57 I read in their coursebook that they want question trainers 4 and 5 to be above 65 percent, and I am nowhere near that Any advice? I feel like I am a bit confused with their decision tree and how they arrive at some of their answers.

I am graduating nursing school at the end of this week. It has been a long journey, indeed. I have not taken my NCLEX yet, so I am not licensed as a registered nurse. I do want to relax after graduation, but considering my inexperience displayed on my resume, I think I want to find some experience to place on there in the meantime while I am studying for my NCLEX and looking for a new grad opportunity. I was wondering if you guys think that it is a good idea to seek a job as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or intern anywhere health related to build my empty resume in the time period where I am searching for new grad opportunities. Or should I focus on looking for new grad opportunities instead? What do you guys think?

I have volunteered in a hospital for about six months before nursing school. During nursing school, I have volunteered in my community, such as a few health fairs, and marathons. For community health, I have done a lot of outreach programs for clinical, as well.

Hi, I am going to graduate from nursing school in California within a month. I was very fortunate enough to have my parents pay for my education; therefore, I never really had to work a day in my life. I have not taken my NCLEX yet; however, I am in the process of looking at new graduate programs when I am not so preoccupied with nursing school. One of my worries is not finding a new graduate position because of my lack of experience. I do not have any work experience at all, and I really think that will make my resume weak when applying for new graduate programs. Are there any tips for making yourself stand out without any work experience on a resume? Is it possible to get hired without any health related work experience, or even any work experience at all?
