  1. @Nikkinism70s I concur! lol very true about chapter 5 but I couldn't stand that Saunders book. I had to get it out of my sight...out of sight out of mind!
  2. @DJAYS I absolutely agree! Effort goes a long way. The study guide was definitely my golden ticket. There is NO WAY you can no everything on the nclex but with prior knowledge (study guide/hurst) and testing strategies anyone can pass! If you are having trouble with nclex style questions, take notes from the rationales while reading the kaplan strategies book! Best wishes!
  3. @WordWangler Thanks I truly appreciate it! Agreed. I felt like all my hard work paid off!
  4. SOME OTHER GOODIES These are supplemental sources for the topics I was confused about. Sorry to bombard you with a lot of material. I hope its not overwhelming, I just thought I'd share before deleting it from my bookmarks section as I found it very helpful! http://quizlet.com/39055272/flashcards - Defense mechanisms with examples! https://allnurses.com/nursing-student-assistance/mnemonics-memory-aids-146408-page9.html MENUMONIC FOR MURMURS: (H) ARD ASS MRS. MSD (atrial regurg diastolic murmur, atrial stenosis systolic, mitral regurg diastole, mitral stenosis diastolic murmur - GENIUS) -Erikson's stages Life after Nclex-RN, Here are the 10 Kaplan Strategies used for... - Kaplan stratagies Mosby's Pathophysiology Memory NoteCards - This was a lengthy document in but it helps visual people. I just used to look up a topic I was confused about.
  5. @2013rn2BScorpio Not a problem. Glad to help. I was paranoid that I was missing something: "What if the nclex asks me legal questions or how to remove PPE?" When I felt like I should know a topic that was missing from the study guide, e.g. how to remove PPE - I just youtube'd it (YouTube = how I learn everything lol). With that being said, that's where the questions, YouTube and hurst came in to help me fill in gaps. To answer your question, I did the online Hurst review because it was convenient for me. I liked that I could go at my own pace.
  6. @2013rn2BScorpio Thanks! Hurst helped me on about 2-3 sata questions on the nclex...i know its only 2-3 questions but every question counts! It took some time getting thru hurst (each video is on a system and they are 1 hour long) but I already went through a lot of it already because I bought it while I was in nursing school......make sure you know the pathophysiology of each disorder. For instance, in the study guide (without revealing too much)...she has 2-3 lines on nephrotic syndrome and hurst helped me understand the disorder so I wasnt just memorizing. Hope it helps.
  7. @Leiloo Thank you so much! its called @VoiceAloud on Android. Its the best because it allows you to set the speed so that way you can go quicker on the pages you already have down. I listened to the pages over and over while reading along a printout of the study guide. The only thing you can't do is listen to it with headphones. Unfortunately, my family had to bear listening to it with me as well at times. They have definitely shown a lot of patience throughout this journey!
  8. bstrandable NCLEX Miscellaneous 10 flashcards | Quizlet - I didn't do all the cards. This set has questions integrated in there which I didn't do. Hope it helps
  9. I firmly believe the sources below are ALL YOU NEED to pass the NCLEX! If you have the attention span of an ant like me, Saunders DOES NOT work for you. I panicked after trying to read that big yellow book. I was worried I wouldn't have enough time to prepare...and my sheer anxiety led me to buy copious amounts of resources...you name it....and I probably wasted money on it. The ultimate dilemma...content or questions...my answer to that is BOTH. I was trying to relearn nursing the painstaking way by reading that tortourous Saunders book and I am telling you....you don't need to do that. I know some people swear by Saunders. I am open minded to other techniques people have used and how they worked for you. With various mediums to choose from, the NCLEX can seem very daunting. I believe a lot of factors come into play when trying to study for this exam: personal/family obligations, the way you learned the material in nursing school, work experience, test anxiety, mental preparation...all of these play a role in PREPARING and PASSING the nclex. For me, I am a slow learner, had a B average in school, and I dx myself with ADHD haha. I find myself moving to 5 different places in the library when trying to study and impulsively answering questions and reading them too fast. I have major test anxiety esp when it comes to standardized testing...I couldn't inflict it upon myself to sit thru saunders....I needed to hear and see the material. After about a month's worth of scatterbrained studying with Saunders (more worrying than studying), I needed to develop a plan to tackle the exam. I refused to schedule the exam UNTIL I felt ready. In fact, I received my ATT a week before my test date. For about a month, I studied using the following sources: 1) Hurst - Listened To All Lectures I am an auditory learner so this is a no brainer. I bought this program in my last semester of school. I recorded the lectures on my recorder and listened to each lecture multiple times (in the car running errands etc). Helped me with some questions on the nclex. 2) Study Guide I could not sit and retain any of this info. Fortunately, someone transcribed this guide onto QUIZLET which was very helpful! Go thru the deck multiple times. 3) Questions From NCSBN I only did questions (skipped the content) and felt it was beneficial. After all, its the same people that wrote the NCLEX. 4) Questions From PDA Another frugal source that helped me pass. Definitely a must have! 5) Kaplan Test Strategy Book I got mine at Barnes and Nobles. With this book I only studied the strategies and did not do any questions. 6) Online Videos I watched Annelise Garrison's video on Youtube about management/priority and foundation/assessment videos on youtube...e.g. how to do trach care, I PASSED IN 75 questions! It took me 3 hours. IT IS BASIC NURSING. You don't need to know everything in that SAUNDERS book. TRUST ME. Well that's my story. Sorry if I offended anyone (Saunders aficionados). I just wanted to share in case someone was going thru the same thing I was. Thanks for reading. GOOD LUCK STUDYING.
