  1. I'm in my first semester at NCTC & I think it's a great program. I would recommend getting a hesi prep book & maybe a SAT prep book to study for the Kaplan. The SAT prep book will help some with the writing section. Also study the psyiology from AP II. Search Kaplan on all nurses & check out NCTC fall 2014 & 2013 (i think) threads, there is a lot of good Kaplan advice on there. As far as the tats, you will have to cover them at some of the facilities. Irish_mist, since you already have a bachelor's degree, you might check out some of the fast track programs for people who already have a bachlors in something else. NCTC doesn't have one (yet, there are good things in the works though for a BSN program from what I hear!) But I know Baylor Dallas, TWU, and probably UTA have them. Not that I don't highly recommend NCTC, but I understand wanting to make good use of your time/money.
  2. Excellent, I think our schedules are the same. I'm first lab on Tues. & clinicals wed as well.
  3. Sorry for the double post. Running an install on my computer & it did that! Gonna migrate this convo over to our FB page today so carpool info is more secure.
  4. You are probably right about that SAM0609. I'm a new NCTC student so my guess is that's why I cannot access angel but others can. It will all get worked out & thankfully jls0459 posted the work so I can get going with that before classes. Btw, I'm in The Colony were you interested in carpooling? I wanna get that going for any of us in the Lewisville/Corinth area that are interested.

  6. Just a note on angel, I opened a request for help from nctc tech support since I cannot log onto angel but I can access canvas. Their response was that the nursing staff needs to migrate the information to canvas because angel is closed to students now. Just an FYI if others are having problems with angel. I'm goi going to follow up with an email to the director & let her know what they said.
  7. Thank you so much for the assignment info!! Hopefully our angel issues will be straightened out soon. Just in time to move to canvas.... I recognized you from your pic on here, the poison control sounds really interesting. I plan on trying to get involved with it.
  8. I was just logging on to ask someone to post the work too. That would be so great so those of us with 'technical difficulties' so we can get going! Thanks.
  9. Thanks TWishes, I will email her. Just to clarify, it is angel.nctc.edu where we have to go to get all this info right? not Canvas...even though Canvas is what will be used after 9/1? It's weird that I can log into Canvas but not Angel. Sounds like a technical problem within NCTC's system. I filed a request for support since it keeps telling me my logon/password combo is not recognized in Angel.
  10. Angel won't even let me log in!! I can get into canvas but my user name/password is not recognized in Angel. I haven't even tried to find the facebook page yet! It's the same right?? (netid and student id?)
  11. Oh man, I've already washed my reds too! Mine are completely basic though but I'm gonna check & see if I can find a style # on them. The flair legs were way to long for me, bummer. I only bought one pair right now, I figured I might go somewhere else & see if they had petite. But my white ones have an extra pocket on each side (like cargo pants) & I love, love those pants so I hope they will be ok. I think side pockets are pretty normal for scrubs but I guess I will find out in a week. Starting to get pretty excited.
  12. That's what I thought. I guess I will run & buy a more plain top if I have to. My pants have a tie waist & they are cargo style (with the extra side pockets) but that's not unusual for pants so I figured they would be okay. I know they have some without a tie or anything at scrubs etc in Lewisville, got my scratchy reds there the other day.
  13. One more question...I have a solid white scrubs already but the top has a back tie...will that work for the plain clinical scrubs? no empire waist or anything (wrap type top with pockets) but I was worried about the tie back.
  14. My immunitrax just updated to matched, so hopefully it's on it's way now. Had to send in the lab work for my titers, which I didn't do originally because I thought the form signed off by my physician would work! Can we wear tee shirts and/or long sleeve fitted tops under our scrubs? I freeze if it's below 80. I know we will probably go over this during orientation but I saw some shopping for the kids & wanted to pick them up on sale (if I can remember where they were).
  15. Ok question on immunitrax. How long did it take for everything to be accepted after you uploaded the supporting documentation? I have uploaded all mine, got a message from them that I need to get another flu shot before 9/9 in order to stay compliant (I had mine 9/9/13, obviously but my doc didn't have them yet when I got my physical). So I know my records were received by my status still says awaiting documentation and says NO under the received documentation. I sent the copy of my physical, the immunization form completed & signed off by my doc, my insurance & CPR info. I did forget to send the copy of my CPR card until today but they wouldn't wait on everything I wouldn't think. That's everything right? It's starting to make me nervous.
  16. Thanks so much for all your helpful information jls0459. It is so appreciated.
  17. Thanks so much for the extra info, helps answer my book questions. Now I won't worry I'm getting the wrong thing. Off to the get books & scrubs today. Has anyone checked their schedule through myNCTC? I just noticed this morning that I'm officially registered for classes! Woo-hoo.
  18. Thanks for the replies guys. The current students saying they found theirs for so cheap is what really confused me, to get them that cheap they would have to be used, and with used any access codes, etc may very well not be included. But for clinicals, you would think there would be access codes for interactive learning, etc. While I would like to save money, I want everything I would need to be successful as well. (With 3 kids + 1 in college besides myself to get school stuff for, every penny is impactful!)
  19. Ok, more confused book talk. I have the list from Majors Books and have been to the website to see the list of additional books we need that are not included in the bundle. I get financial aid so I will be using that to purchase my big package of books through the school bookstore, but I have been looking for some of these other required books through amazon etc. to see if I can find them for as way cheap as some have said. Unfortunately, the cheapest I have found the pharmacology book is like 44$ used. I have no problem with used, however my only hesitation is access codes etc that would be included with new books. For anyone who has ordered & received their books from Majors, did any of the unbundled required books have access codes or addition material included?
  20. It took about 10 days/2 weeks for mine too. Received it while I was out of town this week.
  21. Wow, I haven't checked in for a while--trying not worrying too much about a lot of school stuff (as much as I can). A lot of good helpful info guys. I have everything done except my physical & scrubs. I have not received my blue card either yet. I have financial aid so I will get my book on campus with that but I think we (financial aid students) have to wait until 10 days before the semester starts to use our aid for books. I had a TB test & a flu shot last September, so I'm guessing I probably need to redo them when I get my physical (or do the chest xray-I think that's good for 2ys? gotta check). Have an appt. for the physical next week. The form is pretty non descriptive, I assume it's just a real basic physical to make sure we can handle the physical demands. Thanks for the amazon recommendation for the extra books, that's the route I'm going to take for those!
  22. Hang in there Stevebueke! Best of luck to you. I don't think we have even had our packets a week, there is still a lot of time for someone to back out.
  23. On Wednesday? Congrats to you too! Looking forward to meeting everyone! I assume we all have orientation together on August 19th.
  24. I have 9:00 lab Tuesdays
  25. Got my packet today too! Wednesday clinicals-group one.
