  1. We didn't take the NET test. The only test we took was the general admission test that everyone has to take. Some took the COMPASS test and others took a version of the ACT test. We were supposed to take a nursing entrance test but they didn't think we would have many applicants. Most of the people who showed up for orientation had applied late in the summer. So they decided to take the students who qualified from COMPASS test scores first.
  2. HI EVERYONE !!!! I just wanted to let you know that I went to registration today and everything is now finalized. I got my ID tag which really made it all seem real, AT LAST. Now, I just have to get my books and show up to class on the 22nd. I can't wait to get started so that I can sleep again and maybe get the nervous knots out of my stomach. :balloons:
  3. Well I'm almost done with everything I have to do. I am only lacking my Hep B shot which should be ready for me tomorrow. Thank God I managed to get everything done. I'm really glad that I found this site and there are others out there that I can talk to when it seems like it's getting hard. I have alot of support from my family but none of them have done this before so they don't really understand how important it truly is to me. Sometimes I have trouble with my computer and I'm not able to go through all the threads. Does anyone know if this site has a "private message" or "email" feature? Once again, Good Luck and I will be praying for us all.!!!!!!!!!
  4. Good Luck on your first day. I can just about imagine how anxious you are. My first day is Aug. 22nd and I can't wait until it finally gets here so I can get rid of the knots in my stomach. I really hope you enjoy it.
  5. Hi everyone... I think this Club LPN idea is great. It seems like there are alot of us mothers here and with trying to go to school and raise a family, we could all use as many friends as we can get. I am almost 28 and I have 4 kids (ages 9,6,4,2). I just found out Monday (Aug 1st) that I was definitely accepted, but now I have to have everything taken care of by registration on the 11th. I'm a nervous wreck. I just went to the Sheriff's Office yesterday to be fingerprinted and had a background check done. Now I have to take the CPR class, Tb test, Hep B shot and a physical and I only have 8 more days. There were 91 applicants for the program and only 45 of us got accepted so if we don't have everything taken care of by deadline someone else gets our spot. STRESSFUL.... But, I'm very excited. I'm also very scared of what I"m getting myself into. I know it will be a challenge, but I'm up for it. I bought a set of scrubs so that whenever I feel overwhelmed I can put it on and remember that there is a reward at the end of the journey. Hopefully that will help me get through it and I'm looking forward to sharing this time with all of you. Good Luck and Best Wishes for us all !!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Hi. Sorry I haven't replied. I was having trouble with my phone line and couldn't get online. Anyways, if you are still interested in finding out about the RN program at Fletcher, I would recommend that you call and ask them to put you on a waiting list for information. The reason is that there are alot of people here waiting for the program to start up. They will probably also be putting the people on the list who are in line for the program at Nicholls. I can't really say a whole lot about Fletcher since I haven't started there yet. But, I can say that it is a relatively cheap school and the number of students is much smaller than alot of other schools. I was waiting in the office there the other day and as students were walking in I noticed that the seceretary knew them by name. I was pretty impressed with that. But I would just call if I were you and I'm pretty sure they have a waiting list for information to be sent when the program starts.
  7. Oh, I'm not the one who goes to Nicholls. That's downbayou. I'm waiting for orientation at Fletcher to see if I've been accepted. Sounds odd, but being invited to orientation doesn't mean you're accepted. I'm not sure if all schools do that. I think it's wonderful that you work for Hospice. Not sure that I would be strong enough emotionally for that job. I just think it's great that there's programs out there that allow people to be comfortable in their own fimiliar surroundings. I just think I would be more at peace in my own home than a hospital, so I'm glad there's people like you out there.
  8. Yea, I wouldn't want to do an online course either. So do you work at a hospital in New Orleans?
  9. Have you checked into the online courses for LPNs who want to go for RN? I believe there is a program like this with University of Phoenix online. I'm not sure if that would interest you or how well the program itself is, but I thought I'd share that with you.
  10. Yea, they are trying to switch the 2 year RN program from Nicholls to Fletcher but no one knows when that will be. I was going to wait until then but I decided to go ahead and go this route instead of waiting. The practical nursing program is the LPN. I've just had alot of trouble getting information on when they will decide who gets in. I got a letter for orientation but they say that doesn't guarantee that your accepted. I guess I will see then!
  11. I was just wondering if anyone here has applied to LE Fletcher's Practical Nursing program? I got a letter inviting me to orientation so I assumed that I was accepted. But, now I hear that being invited to orientation does not mean that you are accepted. So when do you find out if you are accepted? Orientation is August 1st and classes begin a few weeks later. I sure hope they don't wait until two days before classes to decide who gets in. It's been really confusing!! I just hope I get in because I'm really looking forward to it.
  12. I know it is out of state, so there may be extra costs, but you might want to check into Pearl River College in Poplarville, MS. It is not a far drive from Bogalusa. I went there 7 years ago and it's a great school. Not too sure about the nursing program, I wasn't originally going for nursing, but my niece graduated nursing from there and said it was wonderful.
  13. I just received a letter saying that I was accepted into the Practical Nursing program at my local community college Classes begin August 22nd, but orientation isn't until two weeks before. Needless to say, I'm a nervous wreck now because I'm completely clueless about the program. Maybe I should've researched more before applying but I really didn't think I would get accepted on the first try. I was just wondering how soon into the program do clinicals usually begin? This particular program has a set schedule (7am-2pm) so are clinicals done during this time or after classes? How often do you have clinicals? I've also been told that I will need a physical and background check, will I need this while I'm in school or before I apply for a license? Also, I spent 24 hours in a hospital five years ago because of what they called a post traumatic syndrome or something like that, and I was wondering if that could prevent me from getting a license or from even finishing the program? Someone mentioned that I might have to report that and undergo an evaluation. I plan on setting up an appointment with an advisor to ask these questions, but if anyone else has the answers, I would really appreciate it. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
