Bergen Community College Nursing Evening 2015
I tried posting the name of a very helpful website in my previous post but for some reason allnurses.com altered the name so that it is not visible. Anyway, a good book is Mary Ann Hogan Comprehensive Review for NCLEX- RN.

Bergen Community College Nursing Evening 2015
It's tricky, you'll always be stuck in between two answers that are both really good but one is better than the other. That's why it's best to get familiar with answering those kinds of questions now, eventually you get use to it.

Yes! It's a new requirement that took place this semester. We were the first level 1 class to have the grade part of our overall grade. There were classes prior to us that took the test as well but it never counted towards their final grade. It's not as long, only 55 questions to be completed in 1 hr 15 mins and it doesn't cover basic stuff like chem or bio, it pertains more to the fundamentals of nursing which you will learn in your basic concepts class, that is also the class you will spend the most time in.

And finally!!! The semester is over, thank goodness! FYI- Uniforms were only worn during clinicals and when you had skill validation lectures in the lab. Your professors will tell you what is expected but no worries, uniforms are picked up the same day so there's no need to be worried about timing. Also, word of advice, study well for the HESI exam which is 20% of your grade. A lot of ppl did very badly and failed because of this, it brought down their averages by a lot so be warned! It's all on fundamentals/basic nursing concepts which is pretty much the very basics of nursing; however, options are very tricky! Best advice is study nclex style fundamental questions as soon as possible. Right now you may find it hard to understand as you are taking the exams but once you learn the material in class it will all start coming together. A good website for practice exams is *******. Good luck!

Hey! Just a heads up. Uniforms can be purchased at Belle's Uniform in Paterson. They should send you all a packet in the mail with more details and a order form that you'll gave to bring to the store. While you wait for that in the mail you can search for last semesters packet online and view the sheet with pricing info. Thought they would be more expensive but in total spent about $180 which included two sets of uniforms (pants and tops only, jacket is optional) and a stethoscope set which included a few other small accessories such as a penlight, scissors, ruler, pen and case. Sneakers must be white with absolutely no hint of any other color, I just went with the reebok classics for about $50. As far as the math packet goes learn it now, a very small portion of the class will be dedicated to it and you'll have tons of questions but nonetheless it's very simple. I used the desired amt/on hand * qty formula but there are other formulas. You should also learn the weight dosage formula (remember to convert pounds to kg by dividing by 2.2, 2.2 is equal to one pound) and also know the drip factor formula which is Volume (mL)/ Time (mins) * Drip Factor. If you can view some videos on it and practice the questions on the sheet before class you'll be golden because the exam is due within the first few weeks of class and you'll have to get an 80 on it in order to pass the entire course, you have two tries to pass but many people in my section passed on the first try. It's not difficult just learn the formulas and complete the packet ahead of time to reduce stress. In the beginning of the semester it's all going to seem so smooth and easy but don't be fooled, these past few weeks have been torture with so many exams and validations due back to back. It's best to get high grades towards the beginning of the semester so you won't be playing catchup towards the end. Luckily for me my average is high enough that I don't have to worry about failing, I can literally fail all my finals and pass but I'm an overachiever so I'm trying my hardest to get those A's. lol Good luck everyone!

Bergen Community College Nursing Evening 2015
Hi Everyone! Level 1 day time nursing student here and I would like to congratulate you all for getting in! Just a few pointers that helped me through out my journey... I rented the fundamentals book and borrowed the physical assessment book from a friend, did neither for the pharmacology book since my pharm teacher goes strictly off power points (easiest class of the three for me). The only book I attempted to read was the physical assessment book, out of all three classes I find that one to be the most challenging, especially the wording on the exams. For fundamentals I would recommend getting your critical thinking skills up to par because you will need it but I find that to be an easy task for me, for others not so much so I guess it all depends on you. The program didn't seem so bad in the beginning but as the semester progresses there seems to be so much to study for and so much due, but its doable- i'm married with two children, so if I can do it, so can you. Also, would like to add that I never bought any of the care plan books or additional resources as they suggest, but it may work for you, you can find a lot of care plan examples online and that's what I have been using. I do find that the online resources on Elsevier is a good help, but that shouldn't be your only source of studying. I have heard that the night time program has tougher instructors so it seems to be a bit harder than the day program, but I can't say much about that, only what I have been told from evening students. If you guys have any questions please feel free! Again congrats and good luck with everything!

Bergen Community Nursing Day 2014
Hey Scarlettephire, I ended up purchasing my uniforms last week, bought two sets. I also bought the stethoscope kit. I have not sent in the money for the kit, will get to it soon. I have also taken the BLS CPR class, purchased insurance, and I have an appointment tomorrow to have all my shots done. Seems like the kit and sneakers are my last things to do. :-)

Seems like I'm the only one on here who has been assigned to section 002. lol Has anyone purchased their uniforms yet? How about the kit and other requirements? Bergen Community Nursing Day 2014
I was told by **** that she would be registering us to our classes. I have been under the impression that we weren't able to register on our own since we didn't know what section to register for.

Congrats Mo10! A friend of mine who is already in the program purchased a plan through healthcare.gov. I have private insurance through my husband's employer so that was ONE of the many things I did not have to worry about. Best of Luck!

Bergen CC Fall 2013 Program
Hi Kaitlyne! I have read numerous threads on this site, and have found that the amount of time you invested, dedicating yourself in helping other nursing students along the way is truly beautiful. THANK YOU! With that being said, I would like to know if there are any textbooks or additional readings you can suggest for an upcoming level 2 student? I have seen how stressed out a very dear friend of mine has been. She is currently finishing up level 1 and is also a mommy of 4. I would love to help her in any way possible. If you have the time to share any recommendations that has helped you get through level 2 I will truly appreciate it. Thanks so much! :) [email protected]

Bergen Community Nursing Day 2014
You're probably right. Just checked and the average is 75, not much of a difference. Wish I knew the amount of applicants who took the test.

Bergen Community Nursing Day 2014
Carolina, The facility I took my exam at closes at 9pm so I believe the last time slot to take the test is 5pm. I checked this morning and that was the average. I'm guessing by tomorrow morning the new class average should be available.

Bergen Community Nursing Day 2014
Jay, For Math, Reading, Vocabulary and Grammar there were about 55 questions per section. Bio and Chem had 30 each section, and the personality tests had about 15 each. I personally felt exhausted midway through. It just seemed like so much. I would definitely recommend going in refreshed and alert. Just an FYI- I took my exam in Fair Lawn and decided to wear a sweater just in case it got chilly, but that wasn't the case. The room was actually very warm with poor circulation so I decided to take my sweater off. Huge mistake, soon after one of the proctors comes in and tells me I have to wear it or put it back in my locker while the clock kept running. I would have considered if it weren't for all the security measures they put you through as you are coming into the testing room. I wanted to make sure I had enough time to complete everything so to say the least I wasn't very comfortable. Just a tip. Best of luck!

Bergen Community Nursing Day 2014
Thanks for the encouragement Carolina. I'm just a nervous wreck! lol I'm almost certain you'll get in based on your score. I was hoping to get a high 80 like yourself, but I only studied for 3 days so I guess I got exactly what I put in. :/ I hope these next couple of weeks come quickly. Based on other forums, acceptance notifications were sent out within 2 weeks of the last day of testing. Best of luck! :-)

Hello Everyone, Just took the Hesi exam today and I got an overall score of 83. Really hoping it's enough to get into the program. :-(
