  1. Psychcns, thank you so much for your feedback! I am hoping that it will all come together, but I want to make sure I am starting to get into the mindset of an advanced practice nurse. Looking at the requirements of the capstone is exhaustin in itself!
  2. Thank you all for your responses! I think I am going to start off in a part time program and see how it goes. If I need to move to part time at work, I will do so.:)
  3. Hi all!! I have decided to go ahead and apply for the BSN-DNP family nurse practitioner program at my local university! I am super excited, but of course nervous. I am a newer graduate... So by the time I start I will only have 1.5 years RN experience under my belt but I plan to do the part time program and maintain working as long as possible. I have a few proposed ideas for my capstone and I would appreciate some thoughts. Last year, my hometown was 3/4's of the way wiped out by a nasty tornado. Now that the anniversary of that day is approaching, I am starting to reflect on the utter chaos my small community was left in. It hits pretty close to home for me. A few of my friends that were cowered in basements, still to this day have major anxiety when it storms. Luckily, I was away at school and my family's house was spared. We only lost one vehicle and had quite a mess to clean up in our yard, but my family even had a hard time with the recovery. I am wanting to evaluate the role of primary care providers and how they manage care when a disaster like this hits. Maybe use evidence-based research to come up with a care model for primary care providers during a community disaster situation. I have read into it briefly and there seems to be an increase in physician visits for physical and mental issues following a disaster and I think it's important to evaluate if primary care providers are equipped to handle something like this, especially when it may be their hometown too. Obviously the research will be extensive, but does anyone have any suggestions or critiques? Is this out of my league? Am I thinking like an advanced practice nurse? Anything helps! Thanks!!!
  4. Hello! I am need of some advice. I am looking to return to my alma mater (a state school) to continue my nursing education. They are now only offering a full time DNP program for the family nurse practitioner. The program will consist of some online and some on-site courses. My personal situation requires me to work full-time (3 12 hour nights a week) and if I continue to work full-time my employer will also pay $6000 towards my tuition each fiscal year. I did exceptionally well in my undergrad program so I am not so much worried about finding the determination to continue my good grades even though I know it will be significantly harder, but I am worried about finding the time to study. My work is pretty flexible and we do self scheduling... so I am lucky there. However, I was wondering if anybody has any advice or personal experience with working full time (3 12s) and continuing on in a full-time BSN-DNP FNP program? Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi guys! I am am a new nurse! Just graduated this May and am licensed as of early this month! Well I need some advice. I had an interview at a hospital that I did Clinicals at just last Thursday (7/10). It went great and the manager remembered me from clinical (even said she was happy to see me again) and basically told me I was one of the top contenders because she has seen me in action on the floor! I was sooo ecstatic! Well she had 5 other people to interview the week after my interview and told me a decision would not be made until probably the 25th... Which is like 2 weeks after my initial interview with her (the manager) and the hr nurse recruiter. It has been such a long wait! Anyways... My question is... I sent both the recruiter and the manager follow up thank you emails thanking them for their time and consideration etc. the evening of the interview. I was wondering... Even though the floor manager told me the 25th(this coming Friday) at the latest... Should I send an email or call the recruiter sometime this coming week to display my continued interest? Or should I just sit tight and wait for the 25th to roll around?? Please help!! Sincerely, an antsy new nurse!
  6. Thank you both for your responses! I was definitely being irrational with it being Memorial Day Weekend! It is so nerve-racking! The only time I contacted the CEO was to thank him for the opportunity to interview. Was that wrong? :/ But yes, I could not believe they were having me meet with the CEO. I had never heard of that before. I guess it is just the waiting game. How long should I wait to contact the recruiter that has been in touch with me to check on the status? Maybe Monday of next week?
  7. Hi all! So, I am a new grad. Just graduated May 2014. I just got a call about a nurse residency program in my area that starts in September. Spoke with a recruiter, it went well, she then took to the ER where I met with the nurse manager and another nurse for a peer interview. We really clicked! She then took me around to meet other nurses on the unit. Afterwards, she took me to meet the Service Line Manager on the day of the interview. A few days later, the service line manager called me for a phone interview since we did not have a lot of time to talk. It went well. She asked me where I see myself in 5 years, etc. Even mentioned my references had excellent things to say. I got a call again from the recruiter a few days later inviting me in to an interview with the CEO and another HR lady! THE CEO OF THE HOSPITAL!! Apparantly he just got hired about 6 months ago and its new policy that he sees ALL of the employees before they get hired on. Well, I totally blew it. I was so nervous and rambled on and on--not even sure if I answered his questions :/. He asked me about the core values of the hospital and I froze. I did not know them by heart. :/ Then I was so worked up by the end of the interview that I forgot my few questions I had ready to ask. I was mortified. I sent a thank you email to the CEO and the recruiter afterwards for the opportunity. I was told I would get a call soon right after the interview...but my friend got offered a job the day of his interview at the same hospital...so now I am discouraged that I didn't get it. I just interviewed on Friday at 2:30 PM...Memorial Day was Monday, so now it is 5:00 on Tuesday and I have heard nothing. Anyone have any insight on this? Will that last interview kill all opportuniy I had?
  8. I just got it too! I didn't get it either! I have applied everywhere with no luck so far... Very discouraging
  9. I know!! Me too!
  10. Carley77, really?? I didn't notice. Opps! Do you know how to move it to the MO forum? Sorry! Thanks!
  11. Mswalker, RN, Thank you for your input! I have heard that they assign you a floor as well, which I am not so ecstatic about, but it is better than being unemployed I suppose :/ ... That is awesome that you have a job at Children's! Congrats! I job shadowed there last fall and loved both the NICU and PICU! I am hoping to end up in Peds eventually. :) I have heard that BJC will not accept applications until after you pass your boards nowadays...which kind of sucks... But it seems that it is just a huge waiting game everywhere you apply. Did you have any tech/RN experience before landing your job at Children's?
  12. Katja508, I talked to someone who works at SSM today as a tech. She applied to FUTURES and she said they first hire all their internal applicants first (such as techs, etc) and that they will start on external in a few weeks. So apparantly we still have some time. So fingers crossed! We still have plenty of time! :)
  13. I know! I have heard they email you and ask you to set up a time for the phone interview! But I'm not sure! Hopefully we hear something soon!
  14. Katja508, Nope the lady did not call me today either. I don't know what to think! Haha
  15. Hi! I'm sorry! I forgot to post! I just called on Friday around 3. They said that I am still being considered and they have just started phone interviews. The head recruiter is supposed to call me on Monday? I'm not sure what that means. But basically the lady said they are a little behind with the hiring process this time around.
