  1. Hello, I'm currently a pre-nursing student and have some questions about the career I'm pursuing and being able to be a mother. I want kids when I graduate nursing school (abt 23/24 y/o), God willing, in 4 years. My question is when I do hopefully become a mother, I don't want to work at all until the baby is a toddler. I want to be there for my baby all the time. In my culture, taking kids to daycare isn't a norm and that's how I've always wanted it to be like. I know all of this will depend on my significant other and if we'll be financially stable to live off of one income (I'm single as of now, so like I said a lot of this will depend on when I get married/etc). I know I'm still young (and naive) but I just want some insight into the career I'm pursuing and if being able to completely stop working after NS will be a smart choice. But I know for sure that I don't want to work when I have kids. I also want to become an advanced practice nurse (which is the main reason I chose nursing in the first place) but I'm finding that juggling more school and kids won't be for me so as of now it's an end goal for the far future & I know I'll always be able to go back to school but I can never turn back the clock to spend more time with my (future) babies.
  2. That's great!! So are you starting a doula workshop soon?! I feel like I just need to step up and go through with it and be prepared to step out of my comfort zone.
  3. Hey! So I'm a prenursing student, making my way down the path to becoming a CNM. I have such a strong yearning to become a midwife; if I want to be doing anything in my life IT IS MIDWIFERY. :) I want to become a doula to help me prepare to become a CNM and get my foot in the door. The only thing is...boy am I nervous! I have NO experience with live births or assisting pregnant mommies! Im 19 and not a mother either! I'm super nervous going into this since I don't know what to expect and I question myself if I can really do this? Will a DONA certified doula workshop prepare me enough? Is being nervous normal (lol)? Should I start working as a doula first or become a CNA first and try to work in the OB/GYN department and THEN perhaps work on a doula certificate? Need some help and guidance pls :/
  4. Hey, so I need some help figuring out if my schedule for my prerequisite classes seems the best and most appropriate. So in the fall I plan on taking: 1) Lifespan Development Psych 2) Nutrition 3) Bio I In the spring I plan on taking: 1) A&P I 2) Stats 3) Medical Terminology (not required but I think this class with help) In the summer I plan on taking: 1) A&P II 2) Microbiology So is there anything you think I should switch up that would be better for me? I'm a bit nervous about taking A&PII and Microbio together, let alone in the summer where they move at a faster rate! Maybe I could take Microbio with A&PI in the spring and take Stats this fall? What do you think?
  5. One of my main motives in seeking to get my BSN is so I could go on to become a CNM, something I've always wanted to do. So you're telling me not to talk too much about this or mention it around my peers or supervisors? I don't understand how something like that could come to hurt me later down the line.
  6. Whether you're currently in nursing school or graduated from nursing school, what is/was your weekly schedule of classes by year (classes, clinicals, hours in school/studying/etc). I know this differs from school to school, but I would love to get some insight to how nursing school will be (I'm a pre-nursing student, aspiring CNM)
  7. Thank you guys, I appreciate the advice! Seeing that I need all the experience I could get, I am going to pursue my BSN!
  8. HI! I'm a pre-nursing student on my way to becoming a nurse-midwife (God willing). For all of you who are either currently in nursing school or are now nurses, knowing what you know now, what would you have wished you knew before you started?
  9. Hello! So I'm an aspiring CNM! I need help and insight on what route to choose to become a CNM. I want to choose a route that is 1. Less difficult and 2. Less time consuming (don't take this to mean I'm lazy or not willing to work for what I want) My first option would be getting my BSN and then applying to the CNM program. I'm a bit hesitate to this route because I don't necessarily want to go through nursing school or then have to work as a nurse for a year. Seeing the negative posts on allnurses about nursing school and working as nurse hasn't helped that much either! My other option is getting a non-nursing degree in something that could possibly add to my career as a CNM (maybe Healthcare Management) and then apply to a 16-month MN program that is direct-entry to the CNM program. I could definitely use somone who's looking at this from the outside-in, that could weigh the differences and shed some truth/reality on this. I would definitely appreciate any advice from anyone!
