Consider yourselfs fortunate! I work on a 32 bed med/surg unit which consists of 50% oncology 25% surg 25% medical pts. We are 1 to 8 patients on all 3 shifts.

RN's and LPN's have been removing Jackson Pratt, Duvol, Penrose, Hemovac, Constavac and T-tube drains for years.

Presently our med/surg nurses are being floated to critical care and step down units without any orientation to the unit at all!! They tried to give one of our nurses 4 pts at various areas in the ccu. She was told that they were just floor type pts....
